    Abstract: The present invention relates to a system, device, and method for the high throughput multiplexed detection of a wide number of compounds. The invention comprises of a microwell array coupled to a capture agent array to form a plurality of interfaces between a microwell and a set of immobilized capture agents. The set of capture agents comprises a plurality of distinguishable features, with each feature corresponding to the detection of a particular compound of interest. In certain embodiments, each microwell is configured to contain a single cell. The invention is therefore capable of performing a high throughput analysis of single cell profiles, including profiles of secreted compounds.

    Abstract: A method for decreasing steam methane reformer (SMR) tube temperature is provided. The method can include the steps of introducing a hydrocarbon containing feed to be reformed to a plurality of SMR tubes in the presence of steam under conditions effective to produce hydrogen and carbon monoxide, monitoring the temperature of at least a plurality of the tubes within the SMR during operation, comparing the monitored temperature against a first predetermined value, and introducing an effective amount of water to a reformer tube when the monitored temperature of the reformer tube is at or above the predetermined value, such that the temperature of the reformer tube is reduced.

The monitoring system is configured to monitor the temperature of at least a plurality of SMR tubes and compare the temperature against a first predetermined value, and the water source is configured to introduce water to an SMR tube that has a temperature above the first predetermined value, such that the temperature of the SMR tube is reduced.

    Abstract: A method of ice-crystal wall-breaking extraction of the pomelo peel essencial oil, including: first selecting a fresh pomelo, peeling off the outmost oil cell layer with a peeler, and collecting the cortex that is 1.5-2.5 mm thick; slowly freezing the pomelo peel oil cell layer at ?15° C. to ?30° C. to form ice crystal; breaking the pomelo peel ice crystal with a breaker; thawing the broken ice crystal, and then squeezing with a screw squeezer to obtain a squeezed mixed liquid; adding 3-4% by mass of the table salt to the squeezed mixed liquid, and standing to stratify at reduced pressure, thereby obtaining an oil-water mixture; distilling the mixed liquid at reduced pressure, and collecting the distillate to obtain an oil-water mixture that undergoes natural stratification; discarding the water layer, thereby obtaining the pomelo peel essential oil.

    Abstract: Fluidic nanotube devices are described in which a hydrophilic, non-carbon nanotube, has its ends fluidly coupled to reservoirs. Source and drain contacts are connected to opposing ends of the nanotube, or within each reservoir near the opening of the nanotube. The passage of molecular species can be sensed by measuring current flow (source-drain, ionic, or combination). The tube interior can be functionalized by joining binding molecules so that different molecular species can be sensed by detecting current changes. The nanotube may be a semiconductor, wherein a tubular transistor is formed. A gate electrode can be attached between source and drain to control current flow and ionic flow. By way of example an electrophoretic array embodiment is described, integrating MEMs switches.

    Abstract: Vertical integrated field effect transistor circuits and methods are described which are fabricated from Silicon, Germanium, or a combination Silicon and Germanium based on nanowires grown in place on the substrate. By way of example, vertical integrated transistors are formed from one or more nanowires which have been insulated, had a gate deposited thereon, and to which a drain is coupled to the exposed tips of one or more of the nanowires. The nanowires are preferably grown over a surface or according to a desired pattern in response to dispersing metal nanoclusters over the desired portions of the substrate. In one preferred implementation, SiCl4 is utilized as a gas phase precursor during the nanowire growth process. In place nanowire growth is also taught in conjunction with structures, such as trenches, while bridging forms of nanowires are also described.

    Abstract: Novel and significantly simplified procedures for fabrication of fully integrated nanoelectrospray emitters have been described. For nanofabricated monolithic multinozzle emitters (NM2 emitters), a bottom up approach using silicon nanowires on a silicon sliver is used. For microfabricated monolithic multinozzle emitters (M3 emitters), a top down approach using MEMS techniques on silicon wafers is used. The emitters have performance comparable to that of commercially-available silica capillary emitters for nanoelectrospray mass spectrometry.
