  • Publication number: 20030224643
Abstract: A connector includes a first housing section having a plurality of electrically conductive contacts therein. The connector also includes a second housing section including a plurality of electrically conductive contacts that can form an electrical connection with the contacts of the first housing section. The first housing section and the second housing section are removably connectable and are capable of forming an explosion proof or flame proof housing when connected. The contacts of at least one of the second housing section and the first housing section are movable relative to their respective housing section to align the contacts of the second housing and the contacts of the first housing section during connection of the second housing section to the first housing section.

  • Patent number: 6618684
Abstract: The phase shift in an electronic energy meter is compensated for by obtaining temperature and frequency readings in the meter and using these readings in a digital signal processor (DSP) residing within the electronic energy meter. The frequency and temperature compensation is performed to each phase calibration and the result is stored in the DSP. To reduce the possible influence of noise in the system, the compensated DSP values are filtered to provide a smoothing of the data.

  • Publication number: 20030129410
Abstract: A method for producing a polycarbonate article having improved ultraviolet protection, the method comprising extruding a substrate comprising polycarbonate; impregnating an ultraviolet radiation absorber into a surface of the substrate to form an interlayer; and laminating a weatherable film onto the interlayer of the substrate. This method allows a very thin weatherable acrylic film to be uniformly applied to the substrate to provide long term anti-yellowing performance. Articles made by this dual-layer process have excellent weathering performance for extended periods of time and can be employed in the production of commercial signs.

  • Patent number: 6314871
Abstract: Cooking appliances, cooking assemblies, and cooking assembly components that improve heat distribution are provided. In one embodiment, a cooking assembly has a sear grid including a radiant panel having an undulating shape. The panel defines at least one generally parabolic dome with a radiused peak to allow liquids at the peak to be rapidly heated by the burner. The dome has sides extending away from the peak with a generally increasing slope to cause liquids flowing down the sides of the dome to accelerate. In another embodiment, a double U-shaped burner is provided. A U-shaped burner has a base for positioning at the front of the cooking assembly and a pair of legs that extend toward the rear of the cooking assembly. A second U-shaped connecting tube is positioned to connect the U-shaped burner base to the front of the cooking assembly housing.

  • Patent number: 6167233
Abstract: A recording device that is coupled to a book. The recording device records, saves and plays back a plurality of discrete messages. An archival control disables and enables the device, thus permitting the user to ensure that no new messages will be accidentally recorded over existing saved messages.

  • Patent number: 6112480
Abstract: A stairway 2 is fabricated using a plurality of load bearing modules 4 that are attached to form a box beam 60 that can be freestanding. Each module 4 included flat vertical front and rear panels 6, 20 that are joined by vertical inside and outside panels 30, 38. The modules are joined by affixing the front panel of a higher module to the rear panel of the next adjacent lower module to form a stepped configuration. For a curved stairway 2, the helical box beam 60 formed of a plurality of trapezoid shaped modules 4 provides the principle support for the weight of the stairway 2 and the weight of any body positioned on the stairway. Longitudinal members 64, 66, 68 extending between the lower edges of adjacent modules 4 are loaded in tension and resist separation of the individual modules 4. Because the box beam 60 is the primary weight carrying member, the longitudinal members can be relatively thin and flexible and easy to fabricate.

  • Patent number: 5784508
Abstract: The illuminator of the invention takes relatively coherent light exiting from a fiber optic cable and spreads it in an even manner over a wide viewing area of an eye retina, and by securing a transparent ball to face the light output of the fiber optic cable with an air gap in-between, thus allowing a large light index differential between the fiber material and the light refracting material while having the second surface of the ball immersed in vitreous eye fluid.

  • Patent number: 5624438
Abstract: The illuminator of the invention takes relatively coherent light exiting from a fiber optic cable, and disperses it in an even manner over a wide viewing area of an eye retina, and by securing a transparent material having a light dispersing first surface to face the light output end of the fiber optic cable with an air gap in-between, thus allowing a large light index differential between the fiber material and the light dispersing material.

  • Patent number: 4759425
Abstract: A sling seat is useful for enabling hunters to sit comfortably in trees. The sling seat comprises a tough flexible seat member having pairs of aligned and spaced slits therethrough. A long flexible strap passes through each pair of slits such that the strap underlies the seat member. The strap ends are buckled to any convenient tree limb for supporting the seat member in practically any desired location within the tree.

  • Patent number: 4121584
Abstract: A method is disclosed for controlling the dispensing of fluid from a source at a hydrostatic pressure involving the sequential measuring and dispensing of predetermined volumetric increments of fluid from the source of fluid during different ones of a series of time intervals. Apparatus is also provided for controlling the dispensing of fluid, including metering means for receiving a predetermined increment of fluid and for emptying the predetermined increment of fluid, conduit means for delivering fluid from a source of fluid to the metering means, and control means for actuating the metering means between a condition for receiving one predetermined increment of fluid and a condition for emptying the predetermined increment of fluid.
