  • Patent number: 5935043
Abstract: A lockup control apparatus of a torque converter for a vehicle comprises a coast condition detecting section for detecting coast running of a vehicle, a lockup clutch slip detecting section for detecting a target slip generated between the input and output elements of the torque converter and a slip start capacity storing section, and a coast lockup control section for detecting a lockup capacity. The slip start capacity storing section detects a slip start capacity by once decreasing the lockup capacity to the sum of a last stored slip start capacity and a preset capacity and stores the slip start capacity while updating it. During the coast running a coast lockup control section controls the lockup capacity at a minimum lockup engagement capacity which is the sum of the newest slip start capacity and a predetermined capacity.

  • Patent number: 5924955
Abstract: In a controller which controls a speed change ratio of a continuously variable transmission to a target speed change ratio set based on the driving conditions of an automobile, the driver manually inputs a command which increases or decreases the speed change ratio. The controller increases or decreases the target speed change ratio by a predetermined amount according to this command. Preferably, this increase/decrease pattern is varied according to the time for which the command continues. The driver of the automobile can thereby achieve a desired speed change ratio by a simple operation.

  • Patent number: 5788599
Abstract: A rotation ratio of a continuously variable transmission for a vehicle provided with a pair of variable pulleys whereof the diameter of a contact part with a V-belt is made to vary according to an oil pressure, is controlled according to the running state of a vehicle. An oil pressure control valve is therefore provided to control the oil pressure. A rotation ratio command value is computed from a target rotation ratio set according to the vehicle running state and a control variable set for each rotation ratio according to the dynamic characteristics of the transmission. By inputting a signal based on this rotation ratio command value to the oil pressure control valve, a desirable speed change response is obtained.

  • Patent number: 5734322
Abstract: An apparatus for checking a trouble in a communication circuit connected between engine and transmission control units. A check signal is produced at uniform intervals of time. The check signal is converted into a predetermined code. The converted code is transmitted through the communication circuit from one of the engine and transmission control units to the other control unit. The code transmitted to the other control unit is monitored to produce a failure signal to indicate that a trouble occurs in the communication circuit when the monitored code is not identical with the predetermined code.

  • Patent number: 5649750
Abstract: A battery compartment latch mechanism holds a battery in either a fully loaded or a partially loaded position. The partially loaded position prevents the battery from slipping out of the battery compartment when the battery is being ejected. To hold the battery in the fully loaded position, a latch (66) at one end of a lever (60) is urged by a cantilever spring (72) into engagement with a battery recess (50). To disengage the latch from the recess, the lever is rotated manually by moving a handle (84) located at another end of the lever. As the battery is being withdrawn, a plunger (90) engages the battery recess to prevent the battery from slipping out. To fully remove the battery, the user forcibly urges the battery out of the compartment. Because the side walls (104) of the plunger are sloped, forcing the battery outward causes the plunger to be depressed, thereby disengaging the plunger from the battery recess.

  • Patent number: 5593364
Abstract: A shift control apparatus for an automatic transmission provides a normal-temperature shift pattern and a high-temperature shift pattern. The high-temperature shift pattern is selected when a temperature of hydraulic oil for the transmission satisfies a predetermined condition. Once the high-temperature shift pattern has been selected, the apparatus inhibits the switching to the high-temperature shift pattern for a predetermined duration, thereby to avoid an excessively frequent hunting between the shift patterns.

  • Patent number: 5556349
Abstract: A shift control apparatus for an automatic transmission provides a normal-temperature shift pattern and a high-temperature shift pattern. The high-temperature shift pattern is selected when a transmission fluid temperature satisfies a predetermined condition. The switching of the shift pattern is inhibited if the vehicle speed is lower than a predetermined speed, even when the temperature related to the transmission or engine has been judged to be higher than a predetermined temperature.

  • Patent number: 5551932
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed which prevents occurrence of an engine stalling in a power train of an automotive vehicle, including an engine and a lock-up type automatic transmission. The apparatus is operative during a braking operation of the vehicle and includes an engine controller to perform an idling speed control for the engine, and a transmission controller to perform a lock-up releasing control for releasing the torque converter from the lock-up mode. When the lock-up releasing control is being performed, the engine controller continuously performs the idling speed control and thereby prevents occurrence of engine stalling.

  • Patent number: 5107723
Abstract: In order to reduce select shock the engine load is monitored and if the level is above a predetermined at the time the shift lever is moved from a range wherein torque is not transmitted through the transmission (e.g. neutral or park ranges) to a range wherein torque transmission is enabled (viz., D, I, II, R), the level of hydraulic line pressure is reduced by a predetermined amount for a predetermined period to temporarily reduce the engagement force.

  • Patent number: 5103694
Abstract: When a shift command is issued the line pressure is dropped to a first low level until such time as the inertia phase of the shift begins. From this time the level of line pressure is raised and maintained at a second higher level until the end of the inertia phase. During the final stage of the shift, the level of line pressure is again lowered. A spike in the transmission torque output when tends to occur at the beginning of the inertia phase is attenuated, the level of torque which is transmitted during the inertia phase is elevated and spikes which tend to be produced by the final engagement are reduced by the temporarily lowered final stage line pressure level.

  • Patent number: 5085105
Abstract: A downshift control in an automatic transmission is disclosed wherein magnitude of servo activating hydraulic fluid pressure is temporarily decreased as a function of vehicle speed when the automatic transmission effects a downshift from a current gear ratio to a new gear ratio. Owing to this arrangement, a fluid operated frictional device associated with the current gear ratio is released quickly without any lag to allow quick increase in engine speed during the downshift with the throttle fully opened at a high vehicle speed, i.e., a power-on downshift at high vehicle speed.

  • Patent number: 5047936
Abstract: A period time required for a gear shift operation is measured from the time at which a prime motor output speed starts decreasing to the time at which a psuedo speed ratio reaches a predetermined value. Based on the period of time measured, a line pressure is controlled during the period of time. Alternatively, a prime motor output torque is controlled during the period of time measured.
