  • Publication number: 20190386451
Abstract: A higher-order-mode (HOM) fiber of a fiber laser has step index and guidance diameter (GD) defining wavelength-dependent dispersion characteristics and effective areas for corresponding HOMS of optical signal propagation. One HOM has anomalous dispersion and effective area defining a first wavelength and first power of a pulse optical signal for conversion to a second wavelength and second power by soliton self-frequency shifting (SSFS). By controlling step index and GD, the dispersion and effective area of a HOM are adjusted to bring the second wavelength into a desired range, enabling applications requiring non-conventional fiber laser wavelengths. HOMS may share a predetermined group index and group velocity at wavelengths established by a Raman gain peak to effect wavelength conversion by interpulse and intermodal Raman scattering, which may occur in a cascaded fashion to yield multicolor lasers with desired wavelengths, pulse energies and pulse widths.

  • Patent number: 10512053
Abstract: A node of an application instance in a distributed computing environment can be selectively hibernated and the execution of the node selectively restarted by first detecting a condition of the node that satisfies a criterion for hibernating the node. The node may then be hibernated by suspending execution of the node on a server and initiating execution of a listener. The listener can use a network port that the node used before the execution of the node was suspended. At a later time, a request from a client to the application instance can be received by the listener. The request can be a request to restart execution of the node. Responsive to the request and a determination that the server has a predefined amount of resources for permitting execution of the node, the execution of the node on the server can be restarted.

  • Patent number: 10509789
Abstract: The subject disclosure relates to techniques for providing data experience(s) via disparate semantic annotations based on a respective user scenario. Semantic information for respective data types of data set(s) may be received. The data types may be annotated based on the semantic information to obtain respective data annotations. In response to receipt of a search query from a client, a search result that includes at least a portion of one or more data annotations is generated to be sent to the client. The search query may request performance of a search against the semantic information to obtain first semantic information associated with first data type(s) of the data types. The portion of the one or more data annotations may include the first semantic information. The first semantic information may describe operation(s) to be performed on data of at least one of the first data type(s).

  • Publication number: 20190379716
Abstract: Techniques and a system are provided for protecting content (or media item) streamed over a network from unauthorized access. As an example, the streaming protection system generates statistics when a client requests a media item. The statistic may be generated based on various factors. The media item is divided into different portions, each portion requiring a different key to decrypt the portion so that it may be viewed by a user. Based on the generated statistic, the streaming protection system determines whether or not to allow the client access to the decryption key for a portion of the media item.

  • Publication number: 20190378433
Abstract: In order to enable a user to produce a program by means of visible operations, a pairing unit pairs a user terminal and a basic core. A program production unit produces a program on the basis of touch operations by the user. An H parts supply unit and an S parts supply unit respectively supply H parts and S parts to the program production unit. A parts connection unit connects the various H parts and S parts in accordance with touch operations by the user. A program execution unit extracts from a program storage unit a program to be executed, and executes that program. A communication control unit transmits the execution result for the program executed by the program execution unit to the basic core via a second close-range communication unit.

  • Patent number: 10505937
Abstract: The unauthorized access of database nodes by application nodes within an electronic computing and communications system can be prevented using an access table that stores access table records indicating that at least some of the application nodes are authorized to access at least some of the database nodes. The access table records can be generated by identifying connections between application nodes and database nodes within a configuration management database. Responsive to receiving a request to access a database node sent from a first application node, the access table can be queried to determine whether an access table record indicating that the first application node is authorized to access the database node is stored in the access table. If that access table record is not stored in the access table, the request is denied. Otherwise, the request is allowed.

  • Patent number: 10505403
Abstract: A wireless power transmitting device transmits wireless power signals to a wireless power receiving device. To detect foreign objects, the wireless power transmitting device has an array of temperature sensors. The array of temperature sensors may include temperature sensor components such as temperature sensitive thin-film resistors or other temperature sensitive components. A temperature sensor may have thin-film resistors formed on opposing sides of a substrate. The thin-film resistors may be formed from meandered metal traces to reduce eddy current formation during operation of the wireless power transmitting device. Signal paths coupling control circuitry on the wireless power transmitting device to the array of temperature sensors may be configured to extend along columns of the temperature sensors without running along each row of the temperature sensors, thereby reducing eddy currents from loops of signal routing lines.

  • Publication number: 20190370532
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for providing directional assistance to guide a user to position a camera for centering a person's face within the camera's field of view. A neural network system is trained to determine the position of the user's face relative to the center of the field of view as captured by an input image. The neural network system is trained using training input images that are generated by cropping different regions of initial training images. Each initial image is used to create a plurality of different training input images, and directional assistance labels used to train the network may be assigned to each training input image based on how the image is cropped. Once trained, the neural network system determines a position of the user's face, and automatically provides a non-visual prompt indicating how to center the face within the field of view.

  • Patent number: 10495468
Abstract: A network system uses Wi-Fi signals or other types of short-range transmissions to determine navigation to pickup locations for users receiving services provided via the network system. In an embodiment, the network system builds a database of reference signatures of short-range transmissions previously detected by client devices of users at a geographical region, where the reference signatures are mapped to corresponding locations of the geographical region. By comparing a signature detected by a particular user's client device to the reference signatures, the network system may check for similarities between the short-range transmissions. Responsive to finding a match, the network system determines a current location of the particular user at the geographical region. Accordingly, by leveraging the database, the network system may determine a route for travel by the particular user from the current location to a pickup location without having to use GPS signals.

  • Patent number: 10496498
Abstract: A system for providing high availability to persistent data is provided that persists data on a node in discrete partitions that are each backed up on separate backup systems. When the system detects that the data saved on the node is compromised, the system could restore the data from multiple backup systems. Since the backup systems hold discrete sets of data that do not overlap one another, the backup systems are able to simultaneously and locklessly restore data to the compromised node.
