  • Publication number: 20170289858
Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to mechanisms for interworking between legacy and next generation radio access technologies (RATs) in a communication network. In some examples, a handover from a next generation access network to a legacy access network may be performed via a next generation core network and a legacy core network. A handover request received at a next generation core network serving node may include an identifier of a target cell within the legacy access network. The next generation core network serving node may identify a legacy core network serving node to which the handover may be forwarded based on the target cell identifier. Packet data units may then be routed over the legacy access network and the next generation core network by mapping data flows in the next generation core network to packet data connections in the legacy access network.

  • Publication number: 20170171752
Abstract: A method, operational at a radio access network (RAN) node, is provided for establishing a secure interface with a service network node. A service registration request is received from a client device. A service network associated with the connectivity network is determined or ascertained, wherein the service network node operates within the service network. The service registration request is forwarded to a connectivity network node within the connectivity network. A secure connection is then established with a service network node via the connectivity network node. Communications between the radio access network node and the client device may then be secured based on the key.

  • Publication number: 20170156174
Abstract: Systems and techniques enable an improved network selection procedure. Providers maintain preferred networks lists provisioned to UEs. The preferred networks lists include WLAN RATs, and for each entry coverage area and type of supported services. UEs include multiple credentials for connectivity via providers and potentially multiple transceivers supporting multiple active services. A UE triggers a network selection procedure whenever a new service is initiated. A credential is selected. The UE builds a list of network/RAT combinations from preferred networks lists and filters this list, removing entries that do not support the new service. The UE takes the context of the UE into consideration, further filtering the list. The remaining entries are scanned and a network/RAT combination selected. The UE determines whether registering with the selected network/RAT combination causes an interruption to an ongoing service. If not, the UE registers on the selection.

  • Publication number: 20170105155
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for wireless communication. A user equipment (UE) device may be connected to a first evolved packet data gateway (ePDG) via a first radio access technology (RAT). The UE may evaluate, either periodically or based on a trigger event, an ePDG reselection metric associated with the first ePDG to determine whether selecting a second ePDG different from the first ePDG is viable. The UE may then reselect to a second ePDG based on whether the ePDG reselection metric satisfies one or more selection conditions. Selection conditions may include, for example, a change in the location or public land mobile network (PLMN) of the UE, UE movement between networks, or a connection failure associated with the first ePDG.

  • Publication number: 20170013453
Abstract: In an aspect, a network may support a number of client devices. In such a network, a client device transmits a request to communicate with a network, establishes a security context, and receives one or more encrypted client device contexts from the network. An encrypted client device context enables reconstruction of a context at the network for communication with the client device, where the context includes network state information associated with the client device. The client device transmits a message (e.g., including an uplink data packet) to the network that includes at least one encrypted client device context. Since the network device can reconstruct the context for the client device based on an encrypted client device context, the network device can reduce an amount of the context maintained at the network device in order to support a greater number of client devices.

  • Publication number: 20170013454
Abstract: In an aspect, a network supporting a number of client devices may include a network device that establishes a security context and generates a client device context. The client device context includes network state information that enables the network to communicate with the client device. The network device generates one or more encrypted network reachability contexts based on the client device context, and transmits the one or more encrypted network reachability contexts to a network entity. The one or more encrypted network reachability contexts enable the network device to reconstruct the context for the client device when the network device receives a message to be transmitted to the client device from the network entity. As a result, the network device can reduce an amount of the context for the client device maintained at the network device in order to support a greater number of client devices.
