  • Patent number: 9538439
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are provided for determining available uplink bandwidth as an achievable throughput for a link. An available link capacity of a link with a cell for a user equipment is estimated based on a communication quality measured in the cell. An available fraction of cell resources for the user equipment over the link is also estimated based at least in part on received assistance information. An available bandwidth of the cell is then estimated as an achievable throughput for the user equipment over the link as a function of the estimated available link capacity and the estimated available fraction of cell resources. Moreover, a network procedure can be performed based at least in part on comparing the achievable throughput to one or more thresholds.

  • Publication number: 20160344635
Abstract: A gateway device detects a trigger associated with a device and, in response, identifies an application service associated with the device, obtains a traffic network policy associated with the application service, and obtains a network access token based on the traffic network policy. The network access token facilitates validating and/or mapping a downlink data packet obtained at the gateway device in user-plane traffic that is destined for the device. The network access token is sent to an entity in control-plane signaling. Subsequently, the gateway device obtains a downlink data packet including the network access token. The gateway device verifies the network access token and/or maps the downlink data packet to the device using data obtained from the network access token. The network access token may be removed from the downlink data packet before the downlink data packet is sent to the device according to the mapping.

  • Publication number: 20160337310
Abstract: In aspects of the disclosure, a method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication are provided. In one aspect, the apparatus determines if a connection to a PLMN has been established. In another aspect, the apparatus builds a FQDN based on the determination by attempting to build the FQDN using each of the prioritized FQDNs in order of priority until the FQDN is built, building the FQDN using a PLMN ID of the PLMN if it is determined that the PLMN is found in the list, or building the FQDN based on the wildcard PLMN if it is determined that the list comprises the wildcard PLMN. Further still, the apparatus selects an ePDG based on the FQDN.

  • Publication number: 20160295386
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for wireless communication to enable a UE to establish emergency services (e.g., IMS emergency calls) over WLAN (e.g., Wi-Fi) in 3GPP networks. Such mechanisms may help ensure that an ePDG capable of supporting emergency services is selected. Further, such mechanisms may help ensure that an appropriately located ePDG is selected. For example, the selected ePDG may be located in the visiting public land mobile network (VPLMN) for a roaming UE so that IMS emergency calls are routed appropriately. Selection of the ePDG may be under control of the network with which the UE is establishing connectivity for the emergency call, namely the VPLMN, as opposed to the home PLMN (HPLMN), for example. Such mechanisms may rely on knowledge that the connectivity being established is for emergency services, as well as other information regarding the UE, such as a current location of the UE.
