  • Publication number: 20030160247
Abstract: The present invention provides an electro-optic device capable of achieving an increased light emission efficiency and an enhanced visibility. An organic electroluminescents (EL) display device has a plurality of material layers including a luminescent layer. In a plurality of material layers layered in the direction of light emission from the luminescent layer, first and second insulating interlayers are disposed between a substrate, which is positioned at the outermost surface, and the luminescent layer. The first and second insulating interlayers have a refractive index lower than that of the substrate. Accordingly, by forming predetermined materials having a low refractive index, the resulting low refractive index layers have a low dielectric constant, and consequently, the capacity between wires can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 5808256
Abstract: A target is irradiated with a laser beam having an energy of h.nu./n, where n is an integer, instead of the photon energy h.nu. required for a reaction to proceed using a conventional single-photon excitation method. A desired reaction is selectively induced by the absorption of multiple photons instead of single photons. It is thus possible to induce a photoreaction in which an absorption is carried out in accordance with a selection theory different from that of single-photon absorption, and which is quite different from a photoreaction induced by a single-photon excitation. Namely, a target or reactant is irradiated with a photon energy h.nu..sub.2 having a wavelength integral times longer than that of the photon energy h.nu..sub.1 necessary for a photoreaction to proceed. Photon energy h.nu..sub.2 is either used in place of the photon energy h.nu..sub.1 necessary for a photoreaction, or together with the photon energy h.nu..sub.

  • Patent number: 4606635
Abstract: In detection of a defect in a part of an object having a surface which is substantially a surface of revolution, the surface of the inspected part is illuminated by light rays which are emitted through an annular portion coaxially disposed with the surface of the inspected part, and light rays reflected at the surface of the inspected part are received to form an image of the inspected part. The image is constituted of pixels corresponding to the respective portions of the surface of the inspected part. Signals having a value indicative of the brightness of the pixels are stored in relation to the respective positions of the pixels in the image. The stored signals are referred repeatedly to provide, as a set of signals, a predetermined number of the signals of the pixels positioned along an imaginary line extending radially through a central point in the image corresponding to the axis of the surface of the inspected part and positioned and distributed within a radial range extending along the imaginary line.
