Patent number: 5724068Abstract: A computer joystick capable of detecting the position of a control stick in the X and Y directions, as well as the rotational (R) position of the control stick to allow three positional measurements to be made. The joystick uses an optical position detection circuit with a pair of light sources mounted either on the control stick or a printed circuit board mounted beneath the control stick. A photodetector assemble is mounted opposite the pair of light sources to detect light from the light sources. The distribution of the light intensity is indicative of the position of the control stick in the X, Y, and R directions. A single coil spring is used to return the control stick to a resting position when released by the user. The single spring provides an even return force that is dependent on displacement from the resting position. The bottom portion of the control stick moves in a three dimensional arcuate path as the control stick is manipulated by the user.Type: GrantFiled: September 7, 1995Date of Patent: March 3, 1998Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Russell I. Patent number: 5358289Abstract: The present invention pertains to an improvement in buttress-threaded tubular connections. In particular, the connection is improved by controlling the tubular member thread pitch diameter tolerance to .+-.0.0015 inch, to provide a thread bearing contact pressure which is relatively constant over the entire length of the connection. In addition, the improved connection provides a reduction in hoop stress of about 20% over known buttress-threaded tubing connections. The present invention typically includes the use of variable make-up in combination with the control of the tubular member thread pitch diameter tolerance.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 1992Date of Patent: October 25, 1994Assignees: NKK Corporation, Marubeni Tubulars, Inc.Inventors: Edward O. Patent number: 5090606Abstract: A combustion gas powered fastener driving tool includes inlet and outlet openings through which the combustion gases are discharged from a combustion chamber. These openings are located above the uppermost driving position (top dead center) of a slidable piston, so that an air and fuel mixture is fully trapped in the combustion chamber until after it is combusted. Since an outflow of the unburnt air and fuel mixture is completely prevented, the rate of fuel consumption of the fastener driving tool is high and there is no danger of accidental explosion of unburned fuel even when the fastener driving tool is used in a badly ventilated working place or site. An electric fan for forcing fresh air into the combustion chamber is disposed outside the cylinder and isolated from high temperatures. The fan is durable in structure and reliable in operation.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 1990Date of Patent: February 25, 1992Assignee: Hitachi Koki Company, LimitedInventors: Takuji Torii, Hiromu Utsumi, Shinki Ohtsu, Yo Kawakami, Teruo Suzuki, Yoshimitsu Kawasaki, Toshifumi Kubota, Yoshinori Ishizawa, Tsunehisa Terayama
