  • Patent number: 8903399
Abstract: Embodiments herein relate to a method in a second network node (13,14) for detecting a short stay handover of a user equipment (11) in a second cell (16) in a telecommunication system (10). The user equipment (11) is handed over from a first cell (15) to the second cell (16) and from the second cell (16) to a third cell (17) in the telecommunication system (10). The second network node sends, to a first network node (12,18), an indication in a message that a short stay handover has occurred when determined that the user equipment (11) is handed over to the third cell (17) before a time threshold, thereby enabling the first network node (12,18) to detect the short stay handover.

  • Patent number: 8886232
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and arrangements of a network node and a UE of a radio access network supporting discontinuous reception, offering a solution that is based on the idea to use more than one sub frame for transmitting paging messages when needed. An indicator in a sub frame with paging messages indicates to the receiving UE if the subsequent sub frame should be read as well.

  • Patent number: 8886193
Abstract: This disclosure teaches a method and apparatus for radio link failure recovery by a User Equipment (UE). The example UE includes one or more controllers that are configured to store cell access information for a target cell that is the target for an impending handover from a serving cell, and for a backup cell that is selected by the UE from among a set of neighboring cells that includes the target cell. Advantageously, in case the handover to the target cell fails, the one or more controllers are configured to retrieve the cell access information stored for the backup cell and to use that information for re-establishing connection in the backup cell. The UE selects the backup cell, for example, as the neighboring cell other than the target cell having the strongest signal conditions with respect to the UE.

  • Patent number: 8886197
Abstract: A method of decreasing radio link failure in challenging mobility scenarios for a user equipment (UE), device working in a cellular telecommunication network with a base station of each cell is disclosed. The method comprises measuring signal conditions for serving cell and neighboring cells periodically; and estimating channel variations and comparing the estimate with a threshold value such that, when channel variations are determined to exceed a channel variations threshold, performing an accelerated procedure comprising predicting whether handover is likely to occur in connection with the next scheduled measurement instant based on the signal measurements such that when handover is predicted, the procedure directly proceeds with sending an initial measurement report transmission request. Thereby handover delay can be reduced such that risk of radio link failure is reduced at significantly varying signal conditions. A UE device and a computer program are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20140256311
Abstract: A method in a first base station (105) for handling a data transferral in a cellular network (100) is provided. The first base station (105) serves a user equipment (125) via a first cell (115). When the first base station (105) obtains an indication that a second cell (120) provides a coverage for the user equipment (125), the first base station (105) sends a message to a second base station (110) serving the second cell (120). The message commands the second base station (110) to prepare for receiving the uplink data from the user equipment (125) via the second cell (120). The first base station (105) also sends a request to the user equipment (125). The request commands the user equipment (125) to prepare for sending the uplink data both via the first cell (115) and via the second cell (120) in respective separate intra frequency transmissions.

  • Patent number: 8824322
Abstract: In a radio communication network there are a number of radio base stations, at least one of which belongs to a first radio access network and manages at least one active cell serving user equipment. It is determined whether a passive other cell of a radio base station belonging to a second overlapping radio access network should be activated based on information representative of radio access preferences of the user equipment (S1). When it is determined that the passive other cell should be activated, the passive cell is requested to be activated by causing the corresponding radio base station belonging to the second overlapping radio access network to start transmission of cell-defining information (S2).

  • Publication number: 20140213259
Abstract: A base station (12) and a method therein for adapting a triggering threshold for cell re-selection measurements performed by a mobile terminal (20) served by a macro cell (14). The macro cell (14) is supported by the base station (12), and the base station (12) and the mobile terminal (20) are comprised in a wireless communications network (10). The base station determines a serving cell signal strength threshold to be used for triggering cell re-selection measurements by the mobile terminal (20) in dependence on the availability of small cells (18a,18b) within or neighboring the macro cell (14). The base station (12) further transmits the determined serving cell signal strength threshold to the mobile terminal (20).

  • Publication number: 20140204787
Abstract: In a cell of a cellular wireless telecommunication system, a low interference time period is predefined for transmissions from the cell. For at least one user equipment served by the first cell, it is determined whether the user equipment should be scheduled for the low interference time period. This determination may be based on a determination as to whether the user equipment is located in the interior or exterior parts of the cell. The low interference time period may be determined based on a timing of transmissions from at least one neighbouring cell. In the case of a synchronized system, a low interference time period may be defined for each cell, such that a reuse distance between low interference time periods is maximized. In the case of an unsynchronized system, a user equipment that is close to a particular neighbour cell may be scheduled to avoid the low interference time period defined for that neighbour cell.

  • Publication number: 20140192657
Abstract: The technology in this application identifies a relay cell serviced by a relay radio node in a radio access network (RAN) of a cellular communications system in which there is a radio connection between the relay radio node and a donor radio base station. The donor radio base station is identified by a RAN donor radio base station cell identifier. A RAN relay cell identifier is determined that uniquely identifies the relay cell within the RAN, the RAN relay cell identifier including a relay cell identifier and a donor base station identifier. The RAN relay cell identifier is then provided or used as needed so that the relay radio node can transmit the RAN relay cell identifier to uniquely identify the relay cell to one or more radio terminals in the RAN.

  • Publication number: 20140177468
Abstract: The operating configuration at a node in a wireless communication network, at a neighboring node in the network, and/or at one or more wireless devices supported by the network, is updated based on determining timing information for an impending interruption of a radio link in the network to avoid erroneous operation during the impending interruption, which interruption is associated with an external system. The determination of interruption timing, which may be inferred, e.g., from detecting prior interruptions, or which may be known from information about the external system, and the modification of the operating configuration(s) permits the network to operate with greater stability, control, and accuracy during the interruptions than would be possible if the interruptions were simply treated as intermittent radio link failures.
