  • Patent number: 8681745
Abstract: A method of controlling an unsynchronized cellular wireless telecommunication system includes, for at least one user equipment served by a first cell, receiving signal strength measurements and, based on the signal strength measurements, determining whether the user equipment should be scheduled for a low interference time period during which neighboring cells are configured to minimize interference in the first cell. The method additionally includes receiving neighboring cell time difference measurements from at least one mobile device within the first cell and, based on said measurements, determining a timing of transmissions from at least one neighboring cell relative to a timing of transmissions from the first cell. Additionally, the method includes defining the low interference time period based on the determined timing of transmissions from the at least one neighboring cell.

  • Patent number: 8666393
Abstract: A basic idea is to introduce an additional paging schedule for user equipment in connected mode that differs from the paging schedule used for user equipment in idle mode. Consequently, the inventive mechanism relies on distributing (S1) a notification of an upcoming change of system information in paging messages according to a first paging schedule for user equipment in idle mode, and distributing (S2) a notification of an upcoming change of system information in paging messages according to a second paging schedule for user equipment in connected mode. The second paging schedule for user equipment in connected mode is different from the first paging schedule for user equipment in idle mode. In this way, a satisfactory load distribution is achieved, at the same time as UEs in both connected and idle mode are able to receive important system information notifications.

  • Patent number: 8660569
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for scheduling link resources in a wireless communication system are disclosed. In an exemplary method, a first scheduling policy vector, or SPV, is generated, the SPV including scheduling elements that prescribe a probability of use for each of several corresponding quantities of link resources. In some embodiments the link resources are LTE resource blocks. The SPV is transmitted to a mobile terminal for use in determining a quantity of link resource units to be scheduled in at least a first transmission time interval. The SPV may be transmitted along with a scheduling window parameter that specifies a period of applicability for SPV.

  • Patent number: 8655368
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and an arrangement (102, 104, 106, 202, 302, 304, 502, 504, 702, 704, 1000, 1014) for prioritizing one of multiple cell-related mobility decisions associated with multiple parallel mobility events being triggered, comprising recognizing parameter settings associated with at least two parallel mobility events being triggered (steps 406, 604; 806), evaluating the parameter settings for determining which cell-related mobility decision to prioritize (steps 408; 606; 808), and performing a task according to the cell-related prioritized mobility decision (steps 410, 608; 814), to achieve a cell re-selection in idle mode or a hand over in connected mode. • Publication number: 20140023044
Abstract: A base station (510), a local server (520), a user equipment (500) and Internet server (540) of a wireless communication network and respective methods therein are provided for enabling provision of an Internet based service to a user equipment, the base station being associated with the local server, which is capable of delivering the Internet based service. A user equipment requesting an Internet based service is requested by the Internet server to discover if the base station is associated with a local server capable of providing the Internet based service to the user equipment. If the user equipment discovers a local server, associated with the base station, capable of providing the Internet based service, the user equipment requests the Internet based service from the local server, via the base station.

  • Patent number: 8620302
Abstract: The technology in this application identifies a relay cell serviced by a relay radio node in a radio access network (RAN) of a cellular communications system in which there is a radio connection between the relay radio node and a donor radio base station. The donor radio base station is identified by a RAN donor radio base station cell identifier. A RAN relay cell identifier is determined that uniquely identifies the relay cell within the RAN, the RAN relay cell identifier including a relay cell identifier and a donor base station identifier. The RAN relay cell identifier is then provided or used as needed so that the relay radio node can transmit the RAN relay cell identifier to uniquely identify the relay cell to one or more radio terminals in the RAN.

  • Publication number: 20130279474
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for providing optimized handover decisions for mobile devices participating in streaming services. In one embodiment, a serving base station in a cellular communications network obtains a play out buffer size for a streaming service of a mobile device. The serving base station then makes a handover decision based on the play out buffer size for the streaming service of the mobile device. In one embodiment, the streaming service is a downlink streaming service to the mobile device, and the play out buffer size is a size of a downlink play out buffer at the serving base station for the downlink streaming service to the mobile device. In another embodiment, the streaming service is an uplink streaming service from the mobile device, and the play out buffer size is a size of an uplink play out buffer at the mobile device for the uplink streaming service.

  • Publication number: 20130272153
Abstract: A wireless terminal (30) capable of operating in a discontinuous mode and method for operation facilitate measurements pertaining to position of the wireless terminal (30). A measurement request message from a radio access network (28) indicates that measurements are to be performed by the wireless terminal on downlink signals transmitted by the base station or by the base station on downlink signals transmitted by the base station. As a result of or after receiving the message, operation of the wireless terminal (30) changes from a discontinuous mode to a modified mode to facilitate performance of the measurements. Relative to the discontinuous mode at least one of following are shortened or eliminated in the modified mode: (i) the non-reception periods, and (ii) the non-transmission periods.

  • Publication number: 20130233507
Abstract: The invention relates to a diecasting die (7) and a diecasting method for sprueless diecasting, in particular in a diecasting hot-runner system (1), wherein the diecasting die (7) is provided in a feeding region (8) for forming a plug of solidified molten material (22) that interrupts a flow of the molten material and can be completely remelted. The problem addressed by the present invention is therefore that of providing a diecasting die and a diecasting method according to the preamble of the invention that are suitable for different molten materials, in which a heating acts directly on the molten material with high power and largely without delay, a cooling is not required and the injection-moulding method can be carried out at a high operating machine speed and under feeding conditions that can be monitored and reproduced well. The problem is solved by the feeding region (8) comprising direct resistance heating that produces a melting heat and is in direct thermal contact with the molten material (22).

  • Patent number: 8532689
Abstract: The present invention relates to a cellular communication and addresses the problem of an LTE UE measuring downlink quality when the load in cell varies instantaneously and over a wide frequency spectrum. The UE lacks capacity to measure over frequency bandwidth and time needed to make a cell load measure with sufficient reliability for making a inter-cell handover or an inter RAT handover. The solution is the DL power transmitted in a narrow band of the carrier frequency is adjusted to reflect the total cell load. The total cell load is measured and averaged over time and made proportional to the frequency carrier bandwidth. The power may be controlled for specific time slots in the narrow frequency band for the terminal to measure on. This is advantageous because then the waste power needed for enabling the UE measured can be reduced and the extra interference caused by the invention be reduced.

  • Publication number: 20130115949
Abstract: Embodiments herein relate to a method in a second network node (13,14) for detecting a short stay handover of a user equipment (11) in a second cell (16) in a telecommunication system (10). The user equipment (11) is handed over from a first cell (15) to the second cell (16) and from the second cell (16) to a third cell (17) in the telecommunication system (10). The second network node sends, to a first network node (12,18), an indication in a message that a short stay handover has occurred when determined that the user equipment (11) is handed over to the third cell (17) before a time threshold, thereby enabling the first network node (12,18) to detect the short stay handover.
