  • Publication number: 20130090123
Abstract: A relay node (110) for a radio access network (100), arranged to be a relay node between one or more User Equipments (105) in a cell (125) of the radio access network and a base station (115) serving the cell. The relay node (110) is arranged to identify itself as a relay node in the cell (125) in the radio access network (100), and is also arranged to receive a non-support indication indicating that the base station serving the cell (125) is unable to support a relay node. Abstract: The invention provides a method and a network node for controlling configuration of measurements to be performed by a user equipment (150a, 150b) operating in a wireless communication system (101). A configured measurement corresponds to at least one reporting criteria and the user equipment (150a, 150b) is able to support a limited number of parallel reporting criteria. Measurements to be performed by the user equipment in parallel may be requested by different network nodes such as a positioning server (140) and an eNodeB (110a, 110b).

  • Publication number: 20130059610
Abstract: The invention relates to methods and devices for supporting configuration of a measurement gap pattern for a user equipment (91) requiring measurement gaps for performing an inter-frequency measurement. A radio network node (81) receives an indication (85) from the user equipment (91) that the user equipment (91) is going to perform an inter-frequency measurement for positioning, which inter-frequency measurement requires measurement gaps. The radio network node (81) may determine a measurement gap pattern for performing the inter-frequency measurement and may signal, to the user equipment (91), information (86) to initiate use of the determined measurement gap pattern in the user equipment (91). Alternatively the user equipment (91) configures the measurement gap pattern itself based on a set of pre-defined rules.

  • Publication number: 20130059587
Abstract: This disclosure teaches a method and apparatus for radio link failure recovery by a User Equipment (UE). The example UE includes one or more controllers that are configured to store cell access information for a target cell that is the target for an impending handover from a serving cell, and for a backup cell that is selected by the UE from among a set of neighbouring cells that includes the target cell. Advantageously, in case the handover to the target cell fails, the one or more controllers are configured to retrieve the cell access information stored for the backup cell and to use that information for re-establishing connection in the backup cell. The UE selects the backup cell, for example, as the neighbouring cell other than the target cell having the strongest signal conditions with respect to the UE.

  • Publication number: 20130053025
Abstract: A method of decreasing radio link failure in challenging mobility scenarios for a user equipment (UE), device working in a cellular telecommunication network with a base station of each cell is disclosed. The method comprises measuring signal conditions for serving cell and neighbouring cells periodically; and estimating channel variations and comparing the estimate with a threshold value such that, when channel variations are determined to exceed a channel variations threshold, performing an accelerated procedure comprising predicting whether handover is likely to occur in connection with the next scheduled measurement instant based on the signal measurements such that when handover is predicted, the procedure directly proceeds with sending an initial measurement report transmission request. Thereby handover delay can be reduced such that risk of radio link failure is reduced at significantly varying signal conditions. A UE device and a computer program are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8346242
Abstract: The present invention overcomes the problem of S1 interface failure by redirecting user equipments to another radio basestation, or another RAT. This redirecting may be on a UE-by-UE basis, i.e. when a connection request is received, redirecting that UE, or may involve redirecting all UEs in a cell by broadcasting modified system information. The redirecting may be such that future traffic load, for example as caused by UEs performing tracking area updates, is minimized, by instructing UEs to redirect after a randomized period of time, or by locking the cell after a randomized period of time, for example. In yet further embodiments of the invention, the cell may be locked after a certain number of connection requests have been received. In this way, particularly busy cells can be locked sooner than would otherwise be the case.

  • Publication number: 20120120899
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and arrangements for handling unreliable scheduling grants in a WCDMA-communication system. • Publication number: 20120108252
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and devices for mobility management UE in a cellular communications system. A user equipment maintains (21) at least two sets of mobility trigger parameters. Each set of mobility trigger parameters corresponds to a predetermined user equipment speed range. The user equipment determines (22) a speed range that the speed of the user equipment falls into and selects (23), based on the determined speed range, at least one set of mobility trigger parameters to be used for performing mobility-based decisions. If the user equipment is in connected mode a network base station may select a set of mobility trigger parameters to be used for performing handover decisions based on a determined speed range of the user equipment. Advantages are that ping-pong mobility decisions may be avoided and it is sufficient to determine a range for the UE speed, which is less complicated than determining an accurate speed of the UE particularly in idle mode.

  • Publication number: 20120082058
Abstract: In one aspect, the present invention in one or more embodiments improves mobility management—e.g., handover processing enhancement—by providing/utilizing additional information in combination with CoMP operation, for enhancing the handover procedure. For example, the additional information is used to improve judging the most suitable target cell (14). The additional information can be, for example, angle of arrival or time advance of the UE (20) in handover, RTT, power headroom or signal strength. In at least one embodiment, the information used for handover processing at source and/or target base stations (12-1, 12-2) is enhanced or otherwise made richer by the use of “geometric information” for mobile terminals (20). In one such embodiment, the geometric information used for handover processing associated with a given terminal (20) indicates something about the mobile terminal's position (relative or absolute).

  • Patent number: 8135407
Abstract: The invention is directed towards determining whether a hard handover should be performed of a mobile station (48) in relation to a first group of cells (16, 18, 20, 24) including a number of active cells (16, 18, 20) and handled by a first cell handling device (10) to a second group of cells (32, 36, 38) handled by a second cell handling device (26), when the cell handling devices lack a direct communication link (lur). Either the first cell handling device or the mobile station obtains measurements of link quality between the mobile station and cells of the groups, determines a first and second total quality factor for the groups, performs an evaluation of a preferred group involving comparing the first total quality factor with the second quality factor and initiates a handover from the first group to the second group if the second group is preferred.

  • Publication number: 20120052860
Abstract: A basic idea is to introduce an additional paging schedule for user equipment in connected mode that differs from the paging schedule used for user equipment in idle mode. Consequently, the inventive mechanism relies on distributing (S1) a notification of an upcoming change of system information in paging messages according to a first paging schedule for user equipment in idle mode, and distributing (S2) a notification of an upcoming change of system information in paging messages according to a second paging schedule for user equipment in connected mode. The second paging schedule for user equipment in connected mode is different from the first paging schedule for user equipment in idle mode. In this way, a satisfactory load distribution is achieved, at the same time as UEs in both connected and idle mode are able to receive important system information notifications.
