  • Publication number: 20120044824
Abstract: In a radio communication network there are a number of radio base stations, at least one of which belongs to a first radio access network and manages at least one active cell serving user equipment. It is determined whether a passive other cell of a radio base station belonging to a second overlapping radio access network should be activated based on information representative of radio access preferences of the user equipment (S1). When it is determined that the passive other cell should be activated, the passive cell is requested to be activated by causing the corresponding radio base station belonging to the second overlapping radio access network to start transmission of cell-defining information (S2).

  • Publication number: 20110244851
Abstract: The technology in this application identifies a relay cell serviced by a relay radio node in a radio access network (RAN) of a cellular communications system in which there is a radio connection between the relay radio node and a donor radio base station. The donor radio base station is identified by a RAN donor radio base station cell identifier. A RAN relay cell identifier is determined that uniquely identifies the relay cell within the RAN, the RAN relay cell identifier including a relay cell identifier and a donor base station identifier. The RAN relay cell identifier is then provided or used as needed so that the relay radio node can transmit the RAN relay cell identifier to uniquely identify the relay cell to one or more radio terminals in the RAN.

  • Publication number: 20110237259
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and an arrangement (102, 104, 106, 202, 302, 304, 502, 504, 702, 704, 1000, 1014) for prioritizing one of multiple cell-related mobility decisions associated with multiple parallel mobility events being triggered, comprising recognizing parameter settings associated with at least two parallel mobility events being triggered (steps 406, 604; 806), evaluating the parameter settings for determining which cell-related mobility decision to prioritize (steps 408; 606; 808), and performing a task according to the cell-related prioritized mobility decision (steps 410, 608; 814), to achieve a cell re-selection in idle mode or a hand over in connected mode. By applying multiple parameter settings a better performance is achieved as can be seen by a reduced percentage of time a User Equipment (102, 202, 302, 502, 702, 1000) is not connected to the best cell.

  • Publication number: 20110230200
Abstract: A system includes a first device (110) to classify data as one of a control message or a non-control message, and provide the classification of the data to a second device (122). The second device (122) receives the classification of the data, receives information associated with a resource (460), calculates an expected interference associated with the resource (460) based on the information associated with the resource (460), and allocates, to the resource (460), data classified as a control message when the expected interference corresponds to a low expected interference.

  • Publication number: 20110217972
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and arrangement in a cellular communication system, in particular to methods and arrangements in a user equipment and a network node for reporting cell measurement results. The present invention provides improved methods and arrangements for reporting cell measurements without significantly increasing the complexity in the cell measurement procedure. The user equipment reports the number of transmit antenna ports used for performing cell measurements on each of the neighbouring cell in its measurement report to the network node. The network node receives the number of transmit antenna ports which enables the network to be aware of the actual number of antenna ports that are used for cell measurements.

  • Publication number: 20110212693
Abstract: Measurement handling is of interest in a user equipment (UE) in connected mode, with the UE being configured with multiple downlink component carriers (CCs). The UE evaluates the signal quality of a specific CC of the configured CCs against a configurable threshold to determine the need for neighbor cell measurements. The UE performs neighbor cell measurements if the signal quality of the specific CC is below the configurable threshold. In this way, robust and efficient measurement handling is provided, even though the UE is configured with multiple component carriers.

  • Publication number: 20110177820
Abstract: The present invention overcomes the problem of S1 interface failure by redirecting user equipments to another radio basestation, or another RAT. This redirecting may be on a UE-by-UE basis, i.e. when a connection request is received, redirecting that UE, or may involve redirecting all UEs in a cell by broadcasting modified system information. The redirecting may be such that future traffic load, for example as caused by UEs performing tracking area updates, is minimized, by instructing UEs to redirect after a randomized period of time, or by locking the cell after a randomized period of time, for example. In yet further embodiments of the invention, the cell may be locked after a certain number of connection requests have been received. In this way, particularly busy cells can be locked sooner than would otherwise be the case.

  • Publication number: 20110170418
Abstract: Measurement event evaluation is of interest in a user equipment (UE) configured with multiple downlink component carriers (CCs). The UE performs measurements of a neighbor and a specific one of the configured CCs, being used as a reference CC. The UE evaluates, based on the measurements of the neighbor and the reference CC, being a specific one of the configured CCs, an evaluation criterion for triggering a measurement report from the UE. In this way, the number of event evaluations and measurement reports can be reduced, since a specific reference CC is used for the purpose of measurement event evaluation in a scenario when the UE is configured with multiple CCs.

  • Publication number: 20110021232
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for scheduling link resources in a wireless communication system (100) are disclosed. In an exemplary method, a first scheduling policy vector (210), or SPV (210), is generated, the SPV (210) including scheduling elements (220) that prescribe a probability of use for each of several corresponding quantities of link resources. In some embodiments the link resources are LTE resource blocks. The SPV (210) is transmitted to a mobile terminal (150) for use in determining a quantity of link resource units to be scheduled in at least a first transmission time interval. The SPV (210) may be transmitted along with a scheduling window parameter that specifies a period of applicability for SPV (210).

  • Publication number: 20100330999
Abstract: User equipment is to be handed over from a source cell to a target cell in a radio communication network. The user equipment is assigned dedicated uplink resources in the source cell, and a handover candidate cell is prepared for receiving the user equipment by obtaining information about the assigned dedicated uplink resources in the source cell. A radio base station for the handover candidate cell is listening for user equipment transmissions and determines, when receiving a user equipment transmission, whether the received user equipment transmission can be detected based on information about the assigned dedicated uplink resources in the source cell in order to assess if the received user equipment transmission is coming from user equipment for which the handover candidate cell has been prepared.

  • Publication number: 20100311426
Abstract: The present invention relates to a cellular communication and addresses the problem of an LTE UE measuring downlink quality when the load in cell varies instantaneously and over a wide frequency spectrum. The UE lacks capacity to measure over frequency bandwidth and time needed to make a cell load measure with sufficient reliability for making a inter-cell handover or an inter RAT handover. The solution is the DL power transmitted in a narrow band of the carrier frequency is adjusted to reflect the total cell load. The total cell load is measured and averaged over time and made proportional to the frequency carrier bandwidth. The power may be controlled for specific time slots in the narrow frequency band for the terminal to measure on. This is advantageous because then the waste power needed for enabling the UE measured can be reduced and the extra interference caused by the invention be reduced.
