  • Patent number: 5812368
Abstract: A monitor viewing angle adjusting assembly mainly including a monitor, a supporting arm assembly, and a base. The supporting arm assembly includes two parallel and symmetrical supporting arms which each includes a first arm portion and a second arm portion extending in opposite directions in one plane and slightly bent toward each other at their joint. The monitor and the base are pivotally connected to circular ends of the first and the second arm portions of the supporting arms, respectively, via turning-limit assemblies and locating brackets. The monitor can be turned relative to the supporting arms and the supporting arms can be turned relative to the base, so that the monitor can be adjusted to almost any angular position relative to the base and a viewer may select a viewing angle most suitable for him. When the monitor is adjusted to be parallel with the base, the whole monitor assembly can be hung on a vertical wall to effectively save the space required to pack and store the monitor assembly.

  • Patent number: 5466979
Abstract: Methods and apparatus to reduce wear on surfaces in sliding contact by inducing vibratory movement in one or more of the surfaces. The movement is substantially perpendicular to a plane of contact between the surfaces and substantially nonuniform across the area of contact. The nonuniform vibratory motion of one surface with respect to another results in small rotational vibration of one surface with respect to another even as contact is maintained between the surfaces. Rotational motions tend to decrease surface wear due to thermal mounding by moving the zone of actual contact with time; rotational motions also open temporary gaps between the surfaces which allow the escape of wear particles, thus decreasing subsequent abrasive wear. The invention may be applied to sliding electrical contacts, either linear or rotating, and to sliding frictional contacts, as in brakes and clutches.

  • Patent number: 5135426
Abstract: A toy including a plurality of strings arranged on the outside of the toy body. By touching two strings simultaneously, a touch switch inside the body may be triggered off to output a signal to a music integrated circuit which has a device for incontinuously outputting note signals. The signal transmitted by the touch switch activates the music integrated circuit to output only one note signal to release sound through a speaker, whereby the tempo of the music released is controlled by the player's speed of touching the strings.

  • Patent number: 4866659
Abstract: A method is disclosed for converting seismic data obtained at known points to synthesized seismic traces obtainable at arbitrarily selected points. Two dimensional seismic data are converted to dense three dimensional data with the aid of a programmed computer to permit generation of arbitrary views of a particular geologic structure as well as a mathematical representation of the structure. The data is used to locate potential drilling and mining locations for drilling oil or other minerals. In order to provide accurate interpolation from the sparse two dimensional data, both apparent and true dip characteristics are obtained for the surveyed structure, and seismic trace data for a desired point are synthesized as a function of the dip of the surveyed structure. The dip characteristics are obtained from partial derivatives of the two dimensional data in specified coordinate directions. A three dimensional surface corresponding to the dip characteristics is obtained by a least squares fitting technique.

  • Patent number: 4708513
Abstract: An extended lift coupling for joining tubular members in an end-to-end relationship is disclosed. The coupling is of simple design having only three components: a pin, a box and a threaded lock ring. An external compressive axial preload places a torus on the pin in axial compression. Make-up of the lock ring maintains the compressive strain on the torus and the lock ring when the axial make-up force is removed. Thereafter, increased tensile loading on the pin and box is partially absorbed in benign compressive stress of the locking ring. By controlling the geometry of the coupling such that the stiffness of the torus is high compared to the stiffness of the box and the stiffness of the lock ring, the fatigue life of the coupling caused by applied cyclic tensile forces is enhanced.
