  • Publication number: 20020010473
Abstract: A distractor/guide sleeve assembly is provided which includes a body having a cylindrical throughbore and a distractor assembly mounted thereon. The distractor assembly includes a rotatable dial, a pair of distractor rods, and two pairs of jaws. A plate is secured to the distal end of each distractor rod. Each plate includes a plurality of cam members which are slidably positioned in cam slots formed in the jaws of each of the pairs of jaws. The dial is operably connected to the jaws via the distractor rods such that rotation of the dial effects movement of the pairs of jaws between approximated and distracted positions. An insertion tool is also provided which includes a handle and distal engaging structure for releasably engaging an implant. The engaging structure includes a pair of prongs or protrusions having a slip resistant outer surface. The prongs are configured to be releasably received within correspondingly shaped bores formed in an implant.

  • Patent number: 6336195
Abstract: In a computer-implemented method for debugging keyboard basic input/output system (KB-BIOS) in a development notebook computing system, a serial PS/2 port, that is connected to a KB-BIOS processor and that serves as a communications channel, of the development notebook computing system is coupled to a host computer so as to establish communication between the KB-BIOS and the host computer. Thereafter, a debug command is sent from the host computer to the development notebook computing system via the serial PS/2 port. Subsequently, at the development notebook computing system, the debug command sent by the host computer via the serial PS/2 port is directed to the KB-BIOS processor so as to enable the latter to execute the debug command according to program instructions in a debug engine module that resides in a memory of the KB-BIOS, and to send debug data associated with the development notebook computing system to the host computer via the serial PS/2 port in response to execution of the debug command.

  • Patent number: 6119254
Abstract: A method of testing a processor controlled chip having embedded circuitry devoid of a direct connection external to said chip. Tracing circuitry embedded on the chip is programmed to detect the presence of specified information on a bus system embedded on the chip and devoid of a direct connection external to the chip. An address comparator detects the presence of the specified information on the bus system and opens gating circuitry in response to the detection. The specified information is extended through the gating circuitry and written in a buffer memory. The specified information can be read out of the buffer memory and extended to a user terminal external to the chip.

  • Patent number: 6064535
Abstract: A system for halting operation of a hard disk controller when a write operation occurs during a servo positioning error condition including a memory cell for retaining an indication of whether a write operation occurred during the previous servo sector. A memory cell, such as a flip flop, is set on any occurrence of a write operation. With the reading of a next servo field, the output of the first flip flop is latched to a second flip flop. During a present servo sector, a servo positioning error signal is logically AND'ed with a write gate active signal where the write gate active signal is enabled if write gate is active in the present servo sector or write gate was active in the previous servo sector (as indicated by the output from the second flip flop.

  • Patent number: 5993509
Abstract: This invention relates to a method and apparatus for atomizing a liquid stream of metal or metal alloy. This invention relates to producing powders as well as to spray deposition process. During atomizing, a backpressure is created below the exit of the liquid delivery nozzle by the impingement of the atomization gas jets around the atomization zone. And this may block further atomization. The present invention provides a method of atomizing and an atomizing apparatus to control the backpressure. During atomizing, the intensities and directions of the atomization gas jets affects the atomization characteristics. The present invention provides a method of atomizing and an atomizing apparatus to control both the intensities and directions of the atomization gas jets.

  • Patent number: 5946429
Abstract: This invention concerns with a time-division multiplexing system of polarization-insensitive Michelson interferometric fiber optic sensors, where the compensating interferometer is equipped with a 3.times.3 coupler. It uses the two reflections from the Faraday rotator mirrors of sensor interferometer and compensating interferometer, respectively, in a totally passive manner, to overcome the polarization-induced signal fading in the multiplexing sensor system. The compensating interferometer with matching optical paths is used to reduce the phase-induced intensity noise, at the same time it allows the use of laser source with proper coherence length to reduce the crosstalk between sensors and the crosstalk caused by Rayleigh scattering. This system allows the use of low-loss conventional single-mode optic fiber as lead fiber, and offers advantages in building the fiber optic sensor array system with long-distance lead fiber.

  • Patent number: 5944332
Abstract: A dirt removing running board for automobile includes a cover, a linkage means, a base frame and two steel wires winding to a motor. The linkage means has an upper bar which has a hollow lower portion for housing the upper portion of a lower bar. There is a spring housed in the hollow portion between the upper and lower bars. The lower bar is thus movable up or down to suit different road conditions. The cover is screwed to the chassis of the automobile. The two ends of the linkage means pivotly engage with the cover and base frame respectively to form a substantially Z-shape structure. The motor can release the steel wires to extend the linkage means perpendicular to the cover and the base frame when in use. When the motor rotates in the opposite direction, the steel wires will pull and fold the linkage means and the base frame to the cover for storage.

  • Patent number: 5930544
Abstract: A lens movement mechanism for digital camera includes a lens set which has a composite lens and a Charged Couple Device built therein, a first movement member for turning the lens set angularly left or right, and a second movement member for turning the lens set angularly up or down. The first movement member includes a bracket piovtly holding the lens set and a gear set for turning the bracket and the lens set left or right angularly. The second movement member includes a slant block with a slope surface contact with a rear end of the lens set so that when the slant block is moved transversely, the lens set will be tilted up or down angularly. Therefore the lens set may be turned left or right, up or down smoothly and precisely without a user's hand moving the lens set directly. The lens may be prevented from hand smearing. Higher photo quality may be achieved.

  • Patent number: 5923792
Abstract: An optical character recognition screen editing process is performed efficiently and only when necessary. The process is ordered so that editing is performed in increasing order of work intensity. That is, less "expensive" (i.e., less time consuming) correction methods are performed first, as a filter for more "expensive" correction methods. In the preferred embodiment, individual character are corrected first, information fields are corrected second, and entire forms are correction last. Preferably, the individual characters may be collected from a number of forms before being displayed for correction.
