  • Publication number: 20040224452
Abstract: Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) cells are formed in a P well formed in a biased deep N well (DNW). PMOS transistors are formed in N wells. The NMOS channels stop implant mask is modified not to be a reverse of the N well mask in order to block the channels stop implant from an N+ contact region used for DNW biasing. In DRAMs and other integrated circuits, a minimal spacing requirement between a well of an integrated circuit on the one hand and adjacent circuitry on the other hand is eliminated by laying out the adjacent circuitry so that the well is located adjacent to a transistor having an electrode connected to the same voltage as the voltage that biases the well. For example, in DRAMs, the minimal spacing requirement between the DNW and the read/write circuitry is eliminated by locating the DNW next to a transistor precharging the bit lines before memory accesses. One electrode of the transistor is connected to a precharge voltage.

  • Publication number: 20040197932
Abstract: A bio-electronic system for detecting a broad range of chemicals is achieved by the incorporation of ligand-binding affinities of lipocalins with a mass-sensing electronic device. A biotransducer system combines the unique ligand-binding affinities of lipocalins with the high sensitivity of piezoelectric-based devices. As “artificial-nose”, this system is more reliable, cost-effective, and flexible for a number of applications in sensory evaluation, including air quality monitoring, quality control of cosmetic and fermentation products, medical diagnosis via breath analysis et al. These proteinaceous elements are likely to be extended to several potential applications, e.g., for the purification and delivery of specific ligands.

  • Patent number: 6771042
Abstract: A method and apparatus for implementing a smart management of a rechargeable battery provides the basic capabilities to measure the operating parameters of a rechargeable battery including voltage, temperature and current flow, used subsequently to control the flow of charge/discharge current and for determining the operation mode of the rechargeable battery. The control circuit includes a central processing unit to manage the charge/discharge operation and control the current flow; a trickle charger for slow charging; a cutoff switch to turn off the temperature detector; and an economizer switch to reduce power loss during normal charging of the battery. If the operating voltage of the battery is below a predetermined limit, the system automatically switches to a self-cutoff mode. Through a combination of the above control means, battery management for rechargeable batteries can be improved notably.
