  • Publication number: 20120072556
Abstract: A system and method identify a network upgrade from a data set including a plurality of configuration sessions. The system performs the method by receiving a plurality of configuration sessions. Each of the configuration sessions comprises a plurality of configuration commands. The configuration commands are generated by a same user identifier and within a time threshold. The method further includes identifying one of the configuration sessions as a network upgrade session. • Publication number: 20120072574
Abstract: A system and method identify a set of rules for determining a commonality of attributes across different behavior changes for a network. The system performs the method by receiving a set of data correlating network triggers to performance changes of one or more network devices. The set of data further includes an indication of a sign of the performance change for each of the network devices based on the triggers. The method further includes extracting a set of rules relating to a set of relationships between the triggers and the performance changes. The rules identify a commonality of the performance changes for multiple network devices based on the triggers.

  • Publication number: 20120069747
Abstract: A system and method are provided for identifying a change point in a set of data. The system performs the method by receiving a set of data. The data indicates a plurality of performance measurements from a measurement point in a network. Each of the plurality of measurements represents a single type of performance measurement made at the measurement point at each of a corresponding plurality of points in time. The method also includes dividing the set of data into a plurality of data points in a chronological order. Each data point has a value corresponding to the performance measurements. The method also includes ranking the data points in an ascending order, calculating a cumulative sum for each of the data points, calculating a change score for the set of data points. A change point is identified in the data set if the change score exceeds a predetermined confidence level.

  • Publication number: 20120033582
Abstract: A method and system are described to multicast with an adaptive dual state. The system receives multicast traffic over a membership tree including a first plurality of nodes connected in a first topology destined for a plurality of multicast members of a first multicast group. Next, the system determines a rate of multicast traffic that exceeds a predetermined threshold based on the receiving the multicast traffic. Next, the system generates a dissemination tree including a second plurality of nodes connected in a second topology to reduce a number of hops to communicate the multicast traffic to the plurality of multicast members of the first multicast group. Finally, the system forwards the multicast traffic to the plurality of multicast members of the first multicast group over the dissemination tree.

  • Patent number: 8111626
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing event correlation in a network are disclosed. For example, the method extracts a plurality of events of interest from a database, and creates one or more event time series from the plurality of events of interest, wherein each of the one or more event time series comprises a set of events of a same type and of a same location that occur within a given time period. The method forms one or more composite events from the one or more event time series, and performs one or more pair-wise correlations for at least one of: the event time-series, or the one or more composite events. The method then identifies one or more pair-wise correlations that are statistically significant.

  • Patent number: 8005328
Abstract: A WDM add/drop module. The drop portion of the add/drop module is accomplished by using thin film filters or thin film interleavers. The add portion of the add/drop module uses fused fiber interleavers for the less critical stages of the multiplexing process. In a final stage, fused fiber interleavers can be placed in series. A thin film intervleaver having a flattop frequency response may also be used for the critical stage where the multiplexed channels are more closely spaced. The frequency response of the thin film interleaver is relatively constant across a bandwith of a channel while having a drop off at the channel edge to reduce cross talk.

  • Publication number: 20110164562
Abstract: A system and method provides an electronic content to a vehicle from access point(s) within a network using a controller. The controller divides the electronic content into one or more files wherein each file contains at least one packet, and generates two or more random linear combinations of the packets within each file. For each file, each random linear combination of the packets is replicated to a different access point within the network. The electronic content is provided to the vehicle using at least one of the different access points. The controller can also determine a set of nearest trajectories for the vehicle in a location database that match a recent location history for the vehicle. For each determined nearest trajectory, one or more mobility trajectories are determined for the vehicle, and a set of access points are determined that correspond to the determined mobility trajectories for the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 7917650
Abstract: A method for balancing traffic across paths connecting a network to the Internet using a fractional allocation strategy for distributing the traffic from a congested selected path. The strategy includes: (a) associating the paths j with a counter i; (b) calculating the total initial selected path overload; (c) calculating the selected path load, wherein the load is equal to the initial selected path overload less the sum of the low capacity boundary for i path(s); (d) calculating the portion of the traffic on the selected path to be distributed using a bi-sectional search strategy; (e) distributing a portion of the traffic on the selected path to the other paths; and (f) stopping if there are no more paths (i=j), otherwise increasing the numerical value of the counter by one (1) and go to step (c).

  • Patent number: 7751325
Abstract: A sketch-based change detection technique is introduced for anomaly detection. The technique is capable of detecting significant changes in massive data streams with a large number of network time series. As part of the technique, we designed a variant of the sketch data structure, called k-ary sketch, uses a constant, small amount of memory, and has constant per-record update and reconstruction cost. A variety of time series forecast models are implemented on top of such summaries and detect significant changes by looking for flows with large forecast errors. Heuristics for automatically configuring the forecast model parameters are presented. Real Internet traffic data is used to demonstrate and validate the effectiveness of sketch-based change detection method for utilization as a building block for network anomaly detection and traffic measurement in large computer networks.
