    Abstract: An oral biology model which comprises biofilm, oral epithelial tissue and a suspension of neutrophil-like cells in media is disclosed. The biofilm, which comprises oral bacteria, is produced by culturing oral bacteria on a solid substrate. The oral epithelial tissue may be gingival epithelial tissue to model the gingival crevice or buccal epithelial tissue to model the oral check. The suspension of neutrophil-like cells in media comprises neutrophil-like cells that are differentiated HL60 cells induced to a neutrophil-like phenotype by treatment with retinoic acid. Methods of using the oral biology model to test and compare compounds and formulations or to screen compounds and formulations for their effect on release of inflammatory signals, their effect on biofilm and oral bacteria and/or their effect on the cellular components are disclosed.

    Abstract: Provided is an antimicrobial peptide Sparamosin from Scylla paramamosain. The Sparamosin mature peptide and its functional domain Sparamosin26-54 were synthesized by solid-phase synthesis with a purity of over 95%. Both Sparamosin and Sparamosin26-54 exhibit strong antimicrobial activity. More importantly, Sparamosin26-54 has strong antifungal activity and could inhibit the growth of a variety of yeasts and filamentous fungi. Based on the potent antimicrobial activities of Sparamosin and Sparamosin26-54, both peptides could be developed as alternatives for conventional antibiotics, antimicrobial agents, feed additives in aquaculture and livestock, preservatives, and mold inhibitors.

A buried first-conductivity-type well may be located within the semiconductor substrate. The buried first-conductivity-type well underlies, and has an areal overlap in a plan view with, the drain region, and is vertically spaced apart from the drain region, and has a higher atomic concentration of dopants of the first conductivity type than the body semiconductor layer. The configuration of the field effect transistor induces more than 90% of impact ionization electrical charges during avalanche breakdown to flow from the source region, to pass through the buried first-conductivity-type well, and to impinge on a bottom surface of the drain region.

    Abstract: The invention generally relates to a carbon-based boron removal medium with hydroxyl group and amine group, and in particular, to a method for forming the carbon-based boron removal medium. In various embodiments, nitrogen-doped (“N-doped”) graphene oxide is synthesized by a simple two-step process: (1) oxidation of graphite to graphene oxide, and (2) nitrogen-doping (“N-doping”) the graphene oxide to form the amine group. The resultant N-doped graphene oxide can efficiently remove boron from aqueous solutions. The invention also generally relates to a boron sensing medium and its use in conductometric measurement techniques to detect and measure the amount of boron present in aqueous solutions.

The water cooling loop divides the cabinet body into first and second cabinet spaces, and the electronics are along the first and second cabinet spaces. A cooling cycle is formed where, on a first side, the fan generates a first air flow, which is sent to the first cabinet space through a first air path, and a second air flow, which is sent to the second cabinet space through a second air path. After flowing through the first and second cabinet spaces, the first and second air flows are guided into the water cooling loop for heat exchange under the suction action of the fan on a second side, and then directed into the air cooler.

The process includes the following steps: (1) reacting isopentanal and methyl vinyl ketone, under the action of a catalyst and a co-catalyst, to give (S)-2-isopropyl-5-carbonylhexanal or (R)-2-isopropyl-5-carbonylhexanal; (2) reacting the (S)-2-isopropyl-5-carbonylhexanal or the (R)-2-isopropyl-5-carbonylhexanal obtained in step (1) with (iodomethyl)triphenylphosphonium iodide, to give (S,Z)-7-iodo-5-isopropyl-6-ene-2-one or (R,Z)-7-iodo-5-isopropyl-6-ene-2-one; and (3) reacting the (S,Z)-7-iodo-5-isopropyl-6-ene-2-one or the (R,Z)-7-iodo-5-isopropyl-6-ene-2-one obtained in step (2) with pinacol isopropenylborate in the presence of a catalyst to give the (Z)-solanone.
