  • Patent number: 9590878
Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication are provided. The apparatus may be a UE. The UE determines CSI. The UE determines whether to send the CSI based on at least one of a timer or a threshold. The UE sends the CSI upon determining to send the CSI. The UE may send the CSI in a MAC header upon determining to send the CSI. When the UE determines whether to send the CSI based on the threshold, the UE may determine whether to send the CSI based on a difference between the CSI and reference CSI. The UE may determine the reference CSI based on at least one of previously reported CSI, fixed CSI, or an MCS of a received data transmission from a base station. The UE may send CSI to the base station in an initial connection setup with the base station.

  • Patent number: 9585048
Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to techniques for aggregating data from a wireless wide area network (WWAN) and wireless local area network (WLAN). In some aspects, a packet convergence entity (e.g., PDCP layer entity) communicates with first and second radio access technology (RAT) links. The packet convergence entity may determine from which of the first and second RAT links a data packet is received and may monitor a sequence number value of each of the received data packets. The packet convergence entity may perform one or more actions based on a determination that the data packets are received out of order. For example, the packet convergence entity may deliver the data packets to an upper layer entity as they are received (e.g., in order or out of order), may reorder the data packets and ignore data packet losses, and/or may request retransmissions of missing data packets.

  • Publication number: 20170048919
Abstract: Various aspects related to techniques for harmonization between common reference signal (CRS) and demodulation reference signal (DM-RS) based transmission modes (TMs) in unlicensed spectrum are described. In one aspect, a downlink/uplink (DL/UL) subframe configuration may be signaled for each subframe. Information provided by the DL/UL subframe configuration may indicate whether the respective downlink subframe is a single-frequency network (MBSFN) subframe (associated with DM-RS-based TM) or a non-MBSFN subframe (associated with CRS-based TM). In another aspect, periodic as well as aperiodic channel state information (CSI) reporting requests may be supported. In yet another aspect, discontinued reception (DRX) wake ups for unlicensed carriers may be explicitly or implicitly indicated to a user equipment (UE) via a carrier in a licensed spectrum.

  • Publication number: 20170041766
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A transmitting device, which may be configured without a radio link control (RLC) layer, may receive a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) protocol data unit (PDU) at a media access control (MAC) layer. The device may then generate a set of transport blocks at the MAC layer using the PDCP PDU and transmit them over a wireless connection. A receiving device, which may also be configured without an RLC layer, may receive the transport blocks at the MAC layer, generate a MAC service data unit (SDU), and convey the MAC SDU to a PDCP. In some cases, the receiving device may then send an acknowledgement (ACK) or negative acknowledgement (NACK) for each transport block that includes a portion of the PDCP PDU, and the transmitting device may indicate to the PDCP layer whether the PDCP PDU was successfully received.

  • Publication number: 20170033843
Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communications, and more specifically increasing user capacity through a frame structure which supports enhanced Machine Type Communication (eMTC) UL multi-user multiplexing. For example, a User Equipment (UE) identifies at least one narrowband region within a wider system bandwidth. The UE receives signaling, from a base station, indicating a sub-region of the narrowband region assigned to the UE for transmitting symbols of a physical uplink channel that are multiplexed with symbols transmitted by one or more other UEs in the narrowband region. The UE transmits the physical uplink channel in the assigned sub-region. Similar techniques are also provided that may be applied to DL multi-user multiplexing.

  • Publication number: 20170033887
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A wireless device may use a sampling rate that is less than a default sampling rate associated with a wireless carrier. The device may operate in a narrowband portion of a system bandwidth, and the sampling rate may be less than that used by devices monitoring the whole bandwidth. Multiple sampling rates may be used so that a portion of signal processing may be associated with one sampling rate and another portion of the signal processing may be associated with another sampling rate. The size of a cyclic prefix (CP) may be adjusted based on the sampling rate to align subframe timing boundaries for signals of different sampling rates. In some cases, each symbol of a signal may include both a CP and a postfix such that the postfix for each symbol overlaps the prefix of the next symbol.

  • Patent number: 9553706
Abstract: Reference signals may not uniformly span over time and/or frequency on a resource unit. For example, reference signals may non-uniformly occupy symbols of a subframe. Alternatively, reference signals normally transmitted over certain tones of a subframe may have to be punctured to avoid collisions with a PSS and/or SSS transmitted over the same tones. Consequently, a UE may only be able to use a subset of reference signal tones for performing channel estimation. Accordingly, a method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication are provided for improving channel estimation under a non-uniform signal pattern. The apparatus indicates to a UE to utilize a subset of reference signals to derive a channel estimate for demodulating data in a specific subframe, and transmits a plurality of subframes, the plurality of subframes including the reference signals and the specific subframe, the specific subframe including a PSS and/or SSS.

  • Publication number: 20170013625
Abstract: Techniques for sending control information to support operation on multiple component carriers (CCs) are disclosed. A user equipment (UE) may be configured with multiple CCs for carrier aggregation. The multiple CCs may be associated with different uplink-downlink configurations and may have different downlink subframes and uplink subframes. In one aspect, uplink control information (UCI) for a secondary CC (SCC) may be sent on a primary CC (PCC) based on a UCI transmission timeline for the PCC (and not based on a UCI transmission timeline for the SCC). For example, a downlink grant for the SCC may be sent based on a downlink grant transmission timeline for the PCC. In another aspect, uplink grants for an SCC may be sent on the PCC based on an uplink grant transmission timeline for the PCC (and not based on an uplink grant transmission timeline for the SCC).

  • Publication number: 20160381490
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. User equipment (UE) and base stations may support frequency hopping with fast retuning for enhanced machine type communication (eMTC). For example, a UE may need to retune portions of its receive or transmit chain to support operation on various frequency bands, and it may perform the retune within a few symbols. Both base station and UE may anticipate or account for the retuning delay and communicate accordingly. A base station may refrain from transmitting for a certain period of time, for example. A base station may also account for frequency hopping delays for uplink communications. Systems may employ other techniques to support eMTC. For example, UEs may leverage reference signal patterns in certain control channels for demodulation. In some cases, base stations may alter control channel transmissions to account for various types of UEs with in the system.
