  • Publication number: 20160242231
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. Wireless devices may operate in an extended connected discontinuous reception (eDRX) mode to increase energy efficiency and extend battery life. Control signaling may be used to initiate or support the extended sleep cycles associated with eDRX operation. In some cases, a system frame number (SFN) extension may be implemented to record frame cycles and differentiate SFNs that occur in a first frame cycle from SFNs that occur in a second frame cycle. Control techniques to support eDRX operation and maintain network synchronicity and compatibility may also be employed. In some examples, a wireless system may broadcast extended or dedicated system information updates to an eDRX capable device or devices. In some cases, devices may adjust the rate at which radio link monitoring (RLM) measurements are taken to timely determine radio link failures (RLFs) in conjunction with eDRX operation.

  • Publication number: 20160242213
Abstract: Techniques are described for wireless communication. One method includes winning a contention for access to an unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band, transmitting a request message upon winning the contention for access to the unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band, and receiving a response message over the unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band. The request message is transmitted by a user equipment (UE) on an enhanced physical random access channel (ePRACH) or shortened ePRACH (SePRACH), to access a cell that operates in the unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band. The response message is received in response to transmitting the request message, and the request message may be transmitted irrespective of whether a base station has gained access to the unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band.

  • Patent number: 9420472
Abstract: Methods, systems, apparatuses, and devices are described for wireless communications. In one method, an opportunity may be identified for a first operator to perform a clear channel assessment (CCA) for a shared spectrum. The opportunity may be based on a priority of the first operator with respect to at least one other operator associated with the shared spectrum. The CCA may be performed for the shared spectrum during the identified opportunity to determine whether the shared spectrum is available for a transmission during a transmission interval.

  • Publication number: 20160234857
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A receiving device may detect a signal associated with low latency transmissions and decode a non-low latency communication accordingly. The receiving device may receive an indicator from a transmitting device that indicates where and when low latency communications occur. The indication may specify frequency resources or symbols used by the low latency communication. The indicator may be transmitted during the same subframe as the low latency communication, at the end of a subframe, or during a subsequent subframe. The receiving device may use the indicator to mitigate low latency interference, generate channel estimates, and reliably decode the non-low latency communication. In some cases, the interfering low latency communication may occur within the serving cell of the receiving device; or the interfering low latency communication may occur in a neighboring cell.

  • Publication number: 20160226650
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A wireless system utilizing one or more time-division duplexing (TDD) configured carriers may utilize a dual transmission time interval (TTI) structure (e.g., at the subframe level and symbol-level). The symbol level TTIs may be referred to as low latency (LL) TTIs, and may be organized within LL subframes. A LL subframe may be a subframe that is scheduled for transmissions in one direction (e.g., uplink or downlink, according to a TDD configuration) and may include multiple LL symbols scheduled for both uplink (UL) and downlink (DL) transmissions. Guard periods may be scheduled between adjacent LL symbols that have opposite directions of transmission to enable user equipment (UEs) to transition from receiving mode to transmit mode (or vice versa). The LL subframes may be transparent to receiving devices that do not support LL operations.

  • Publication number: 20160227541
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. Wireless devices may use enhanced carrier aggregation (eCA) to increase the throughput of a communications link, and control schemes for reducing signaling overhead may be employed to support eCA operation. For instance, downlink control information (DCI) supporting resource grants on a plurality of component carriers (CC) may be provided. These joint grants of resources may be used in addition to individual resource grants. A resource allocation granularity associated with the joint grant of resources may be based on the number of CCs scheduled by a resource grant message. The resource allocation granularity may be a function of whether uplink or downlink CCs are scheduled, and it may be determined based on a location of or channel associated with the resource grant message. A receiving device may identify allocated resources based on the scheduled CCs and resource allocation granularity.

  • Patent number: 9398585
Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide methods, apparatus, and computer-program products for the detection of potentially interfering or interfering user equipment (UE) in the proximity of a detecting entity. The detecting entity may be a base station or a UE. In an aspect, the proposed detecting scheme utilizes semi-static system information from one or more neighboring base stations (BSs), and identifies a neighbor BS's UE that causes interference in the physical uplink control channel (PUCCH). The proposed detecting scheme may also identify corresponding resources that are allocated to an interfering UE by the interfering neighbor base station. In aspects, detecting schemes may not utilize information from one or more neighboring BSs.

  • Patent number: 9392608
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for partitioning resources for enhanced inter-cell interference coordination (eICIC) are provided. Certain aspects involve broadcasting a message indicating time-domain resource partitioning information (RPI), where a user equipment (UE) may be operating in idle mode. With the RPI, the UE may be able to identify protected resources with reduced/eliminated interference from neighboring cells. The RPI in this broadcasted message may be encoded as a bitmap as an alternative or in addition to enumeration of the U/N/X subframes. Other aspects entail transmitting a dedicated or unicast message indicating the time-domain RPI, where a UE may be operating in connected mode. With the RPI, the UE may be able to determine channel state information (CSI), make radio resource management (RRM) measurements, or perform radio link monitoring (RLM), based on one or more signals from a serving base station during the protected time-domain resources.

  • Patent number: 9374774
Abstract: A selection process is disclosed for a user equipment (UE) to select between a WAN and a WLAN. Instead of defaulting to select one or the other networks, as long as the connection is available, a better load balancing and maximization of the system capacity may be achieved when the UE selects the network according to a priority order between the WAN/WLAN. The priority order takes into account various network metrics, such as loading, channel conditions, bandwidth, and service requirements.
