  • Publication number: 20160174215
Abstract: A method and apparatus for uplink transmission by a user equipment (UE) includes receiving an uplink grant for data transmission in a subframe on an uplink channel, wherein the uplink grant includes an assignment to a resource block. The UE determines a resource block for sending a channel usage beacon signal (CUBS) over a contention-based spectrum based on the assignment included in the uplink grant. The CUBS reserves the uplink channel for the data transmission by indicating that the UE is sending the data transmission in a later subframe according to the assignment. The UE transmits the CUBS in a preceding subframe on the resource block in response to performing a successful clear channel assessment on the uplink channel, the preceding subframe directly preceding the subframe for the uplink data transmission.

  • Publication number: 20160173361
Abstract: The disclosure provides for a method of interference detection using adaptive energy detection in unlicensed spectrum. The method can include a first modem operating according to a first radio access technology (RAT) receiving a message from a network entity operating according to the first RAT. The first modem sends a detected energy level value to a second modem that is using a second RAT, where the detected energy level value is based at least on the measured energy level of the received message. The second modem adjusts an energy detection threshold based on the detected energy level value received from the first modem. In an aspect, the first modem receives messages from a plurality of network entities operating according to the first RAT, where the detected energy level value is determined based on measured energy levels of the plurality of received messages.

  • Patent number: 9369885
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are provided that include selecting reference signal (RS) or other tones to utilize in estimating a channel for decoding one or more channels. Where the RS tones are interfered by other base stations, interference cancelation can be performed over the RS tones. Since interference can vary over the tones, interference cancelation can yield RS tones of varying quality. Thus, a quality of each of the RS tones can be determined, and at least a subset of the RS tones can be selected for estimating a channel. Additionally or alternatively, the RS tones can be weighted or otherwise classified for performing channel estimation using the RS tones.

  • Patent number: 9369905
Abstract: A method of wireless communication manages the reporting of battery power for UE relays. A UE capable of serving as a UE relay receives a battery status report configuration. The battery status may be based on rate of power consumption, percentage of total battery power remaining, characteristics of particular battery type, and/or allocation of battery usage. The UE may transmit a battery status report to a base station.

  • Patent number: 9369252
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for supporting common reference signaling in wireless communications systems. Some configurations introduce a phase discontinuity between common reference signal (CRS) transmissions on different subframes. This may address issues that may arise when a reduced CRS periodicity is utilized. Indicators may also be transmitted from base stations to user equipment (UEs) to indicate whether phase continuity may be assumed or not. Some configurations may support CRS sequence initialization. These tools and techniques may utilize an extended CRS sequence periodicity, which may increase the number of CRS sequences transmitted by a cell.

  • Patent number: 9363753
Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide methods and apparatus for subframe muting and/or discontinuous reception (DRX) mode related to sleep mode for user equipment (UE) relays. One method generally includes measuring, at a UE functioning as a relay (i.e., a UE relay), signals of one or more other UEs functioning as relays during one or more particular subframes and reporting the measurements of the signals to an apparatus. Another method generally includes determining, at a first UE functioning as a relay, that no UEs are being served by the first UE; based on the determination, increasing an interval between broadcast signals; and transmitting the broadcast signals according to the increased interval.

  • Publication number: 20160157151
Abstract: A communication environment with carrier aggregation (CA) is disclosed in which a UE is configured for communication at a first time with a first network node via a primary component carrier (PCC) and a second network node via a secondary CC (SCC). At a second time, the UE is configured for communication with a third network node via the SCC at a second time. The UE maintains communication with the first network node via the PCC without triggering handover at the UE during the establishing communication with the third network node.

  • Publication number: 20160150525
Abstract: Certain aspects relate to methods and apparatus for latency reduction for UEs in a RRC connected mode. During contention-based uplink access by groups of UEs within a subframe, an eNB may decode the received uplink transmission based, at least in part, on the assigned group of resources assigned to the UE and used for transmission. Additional orthogonalization techniques such as reduced TTI size can be used to reduce collisions among different users performing contention-based transmissions. Furthermore, when the eNB fails to successfully decode the uplink transmission, the eNB may identify the UE that sent the uplink transmission based on a detected reference signal and may transmit an uplink assignment to the identified UE.

The first radio and the second radio operate on a same frequency. A downlink control channel of the primary serving cell is not used to schedule a target cell downlink transmission. An uplink control channel to the primary serving cell is not used to provide an acknowledgment of the target cell downlink transmission. The uplink control channel to the primary serving cell is not used to provide channel side information for the target cell downlink transmission.

  • Patent number: 9351307
Abstract: Reported CSI may not reflect non-cancelable CRS interference received from an interfering cell, such as when the CSI is computed when CRS interference is not received. To address the issue, a user equipment (UE) may determine an interference cancelation/suppression efficiency (CSE) associated with canceling/suppressing interference from interfering cells. In addition, based on the determined CSE, a UE may compute CSI such that the CSI reflects the true cancelation efficiency of the UE with respect to interfering cell signals. When computing the CSI based on the determined CSE, the UE may report that the CSI is worse than it is to reflect the UE's true cancelation efficiency with respect to the interfering cell signals.

  • Patent number: 9345047
Abstract: Techniques are described for wireless communications utilizing multiple clear channel assessment (CCA) procedures for access to a radio frequency spectrum band. A first CCA procedure is performed to determine availability of the radio frequency spectrum band and to contend for use of the radio frequency spectrum band among a number of coordinated operators transmitting on the radio frequency spectrum band. A successful first CCA procedure results in winning the contention for the radio frequency spectrum band for a transmission period that is coordinated among the number of coordinated operators. Upon the successful first CCA procedure, a second CCA procedure is performed during a discontinuous transmission (DTX) period in the transmission period to determine continued availability of the radio frequency spectrum band. The timing of the DTX periods is determined based on timing of radio transmissions having priority use of the radio frequency spectrum band.

  • Publication number: 20160135072
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for decreasing user plane latency in a wireless communication system. This may include routing a portion of bearer traffic to or from a UE through a local or serving gateway, or within or between base stations, rather than via the core network. In some examples, techniques for selected internet protocol flow ultra-low latency (SIPFULL) for systems in which users may have subscribed to enhanced services may be employed. The network may, for instance, authorize SIPFULL functionalities for UEs per access point name (APN) based on individual services subscribed by the UE to improve overall quality of service (QoS). In some examples, a UEs latency requirements or SIPFULL authorizations may affect mobility operations.

  • Publication number: 20160135172
Abstract: A method and apparatus for uplink transmission by a user equipment (UE) includes receiving a first assignment for one or more beacon signals. The first assignment includes a first resource assignment and a first interlace assignment. The UE may determine that a size of a payload of an uplink transmission is less than a threshold. The UE may transmit the one or more beacon signals according to the first assignment in response to the determination. The one or more beacon signals increase bandwidth occupancy by the UE over a contention-based spectrum. Additionally, the UE may receive a second assignment for the payload of the uplink transmission. The second assignment includes a second resource assignment and a second interlace assignment. The UE may transmit the payload of the uplink transmission according to the second resource assignment on the second interlace assignment.
