  • Publication number: 20050180278
Abstract: An object of the present invention is to further increase the speed of tilt control while suppressing a useless tilt control operation. Values of focus bias voltages (reference bias values V1 to V6) at a plurality of radial positions P1 to P6 are obtained and stored using a reference disk with a high flatness precision. Prior to a recording and reproducing operation, the values of focus bias voltages (Fo bias values vs1 to vs6) at the radial positions P1 to P6 are obtained, and each of tilt amounts T1 to T6 at the respective radial positions is obtained from a differential value between the reference bias value and the Fo bias value at each radial position. During recording/reproduction, a radial position Pn placed immediately before the recording/reproducing position is detected. Then, tilt control is performed with a tilt amount Tn at the radial position Pn being set as the tilt amount at the recording/reproducing position.

  • Patent number: 6920087
Abstract: A magneto-optical disk apparatus generates magnetic field onto a magneto-optical recording medium prior to recording signals in the magneto-optical recording medium having a recording layer and a reproduction layer, by use of magnetic field and laser beam. The magneto-optical apparatus then adjusts a position of a magnetic head that generates the magnetic field, under a state where the laser beam is irradiated, by utilizing that an irradiation spot of the laser beam deviates due to eccentricity of the magneto-optical recording medium. This position adjustment is carried out based on, for example, a beam position signal showing the irradiation spot of the laser beam and/or a detection signal which is detected after the laser beam is modulated by the magnetic field.

  • Publication number: 20050064131
Abstract: The present invention provides smooth and adequate recording/reproducing on a recording medium employing a biodegradable material as a substrate material. The present invention relates to storing on a recording medium, information, structure, or the like indicating that a substrate is formed of a biodegradable material. When the present invention is applied to CD, CD-R, and CD-RW, identification information indicating a substrate formed of a biodegradable material is included in a free area of TOC data in a lead-in area shown in FIG. 4. An optical disc apparatus reads the identification information to identify whether or not a disc loaded into the apparatus has a substrate of a biodegradable material.

  • Patent number: 6538968
Abstract: The present invention provides a recording medium and an information recording/reproducing apparatus which permit recording and/or reproducing by a laser beam of optimized power for each recording medium. The recording medium is provided with a calibration region in addition to an information recording region. The calibration region has wobbles formed such that the amplitude of the waveform of a reproduced signal therefrom can change. Prior to recording to the information recording region, a signal is recorded in the calibration region by changing the laser power, and the recorded signal is immediately reproduced. The waveform of the reproduced signal is evaluated to determine optimum laser power for recording. At the time of reproducing, a signal previously recorded in the calibration region is reproduced while changing the laser power, and laser power optimum for reproducing is determined.

  • Patent number: 6532196
Abstract: In a magneto-optical recording medium comprising a recording layer and a reproducing layer, a transfer layer and a magnetic shielding layer are successively formed between the recording layer and the reproducing layer respectively. The reproducing layer is prepared from Gd33(Fe70Co30)67 changing from an in-plane magnetization film to a perpendicular magnetization film at 150° C., for example. The transfer layer is prepared from Gd28(Fe90Co10)72 changing from an in-plane magnetization film to a perpendicular magnetization film at 50° C., for example. The magnetic shielding layer is prepared from SiN, for example. The recording layer is prepared from Tb20(Fe90Co10)80 whose saturation magnetization is maximized around the transition temperature of 50° C. of the transfer layer. A signal can be directly recorded in the recording layer with no magnetic influence from the reproducing layer.

  • Publication number: 20020197040
Abstract: At least two layers of coating materials are applied to the periphery of a silica-based optical fiber to fabricate a coated optical fiber. This coated optical fiber has durability against a proof test of 1.38 GPa or more through the entire length thereof and also has 1.4 N or less of a coating strip force required for removing coating from the silica-based optical fiber. Thereby, when a proof test applying an elongation of 2% or more is conducted, the coating can be prevented from delaminating from the optical fiber and workability in removing the coating also becomes excellent. The coated optical fiber preferably makes a coated optical fiber for components.
