In certain embodiments, each of the packing assemblies is comprised of a top packing ring, a packing and a packing base ring, each packing being encased by the two complementary packing rings and the pipes when the packing assemblies are properly assembled. An opening is formed between the second top packing ring and the first packing base ring. The pipe assemblies are located with respect to the pipe interface such that any escaping fluid will contact the first packing assembly and the opening before contacting the second packing assembly.

  • Patent number: 4493501
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a secure locking mechanism for a sliding door or window. It comprises a toggling pair of bars, one of which is attached to the door frame and the other to the casing so that the bar lies across the fixed pane. The first bar is an inverted channel which encloses a portion of a second preferably solid bar. A pair of longitudinally side by side holes is drilled through both bars in the overlapping portion. The bars are joined in this area by one or more pins inserted through the holes. One hole is located adjacent to the distal end of the solid bar so that it can act as a pivot when the bars are united by a pin passing through this hole. The bars can then toggle to permit the door to be opened. If both holes are pinned or if a single pin is placed so that it passes through the other hole in the solid bar the assembly is securely locked.

  • Patent number: 4493504
Abstract: A carrier for transporting paintings and other substantially planar artwork comprises a pair of generally parallel elongated support members mounted upon a generally transverse guide member for relative adjustment toward and away from each other to adjust the distance to conform to the corresponding dimension of a piece of artwork to be transported. Retainers are provided for retaining the support members in the adjusted position to retain the artwork in place. The support members each include a seat for preventing lateral movement of the artwork. A protective member is provided, the protective member being hinged to the first guide member to afford relative displacement of the first guide member and the protective member between an open and a closed position. When the protective member is in the closed position, it is held parallel to the artwork with sufficient clearance therebetween to avoid impingement by the protective member against the adjacent surface of the artwork.
