Patent number: 4493412Abstract: Horizontally conveyed flat glass articles are halted and oriented in a precise location. Vertical stop pins removably affixed to a table attached to one end of the apparatus arrest the leading edge of the moving article whereupon pins removably mounted in a pair of transversely movable tables advance toward the article substantially normal to its arrival direction, thus engaging the edges of the article and orienting it in a vise-like manner. Lastly, adjustable pins mounted in a vertically and longitudinally moving table engage the trailing edge of the article and urge it toward the stop pins, thus orienting and aligning the article in a precise position relative to a fixed reference point. The apparatus is particularly adapted to the precise orientation and alignment of pattern cut sheets of glass to be removed from a conveyor platform by a robot.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 1982Date of Patent: January 15, 1985Assignee: PPG Industries, Inc.Inventor: Richard J. Patent number: 4493451Abstract: Superalloy components which have defects such as pits, machining errors or any other `lack of metal` condition can be repaired using a braze stabilized sinter process. The invention includes filling the defect with a mixture of base super-alloy powder mixed with a low temperature braze alloy. A higher temperature alloy is overlayed and the component subjected to a vacuum furnace cycle that includes a dwell between the melting points of the two braze alloys. This dwell allows the lower temperature alloy to melt and isothermally solidify by the process of diffusion. This effectively `stabilizes` the sinter which is porous. On further heating, the higher temperature braze alloy melts and flows into the interstices of the sinter, forming a pore-free solid mass. The higher temperature braze alloy can also be diffused by holding at elevated temperatures. This increases the remelt temperature of the repair should further thermal cycling be required.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 1982Date of Patent: January 15, 1985Assignee: Rolls-Royce LimitedInventors: Stephen D. Patent number: 4493452Abstract: In a method of producing heavy plate of steel, a prematerial is hot-rolled in several passes. As the prematerial at least two slabs of the same steel quality are superposed so as to form a pack and are welded by roll-bonding and reduced in thickness.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 1981Date of Patent: January 15, 1985Assignee: Voest-Alpine AktiengesellschaftInventors: Thorwald Fastner, Max Mayrhofer, Walter Taschner

Patent number: 4493453Abstract: A closure for one end of a carton having four walls has a first pair of opposed flaps extending from two of the walls. Each flap of the first pair of flaps has a generally triangular portion. A second pair of opposed flaps extend from the other two of the walls and are connected to the first pair of flaps for thereby providing an endless series of flaps. One of the flaps of the first pair has a height exceeding the height of the other of the first pair. The flaps of the second pair gradually increase in height whereby folding of the first pair of flaps followed by folding of the second pair of flaps causes the flaps to be disposed below the plane of the carton bottom for thereby being maintained in a snap locking engagement.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 1983Date of Patent: January 15, 1985Assignee: Williamsburg Packaging CorporationInventor: Robert B. Patent number: 4493456Abstract: An improved foundation ventilator assembly including a housing in which united shutter elements are mounted for pivotal movement between an open and closed position to control air flow through the ventilator. Preferably, a thermally responsive spring is secured to one of the shutter elements to cause pivotal movement of same with changes in ambient temperature. The housing defines openings therein for the receipt of mounting means which are utilized to secure the ventilator assembly within a foundation or other wall opening. The mounting means includes a threaded element in threaded engagement with a pressure element, such that when the threaded element is screwed into the foundation or other wall surrounding the opening, force is applied against the ventilator assembly or at least partially absorbed by the pressure plate. A removably secureable rear cover or screen may also be provided to close the rear of the ventilator assembly.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1982Date of Patent: January 15, 1985Inventors: Paul M. Patent number: 4493457Abstract: An improved method of and apparatus for making artificial snow. The snow making machine disclosed for practicing the invention includes a ducted fan for generating a substantially unidirectional, high volume air current over the area to be deposited with snow. High velocity water sprays are injected into the air current from above and below the air current via a plurality of nozzles connected to a annular water manifold circumferentially disposed around the output end of the fan duct. Nucleated ice crystals are also injected into the air current by a high velocity vapor spray emitted from a pair of seeder nozzles disposed at the center of the annular water manifold. The vapor spray is comprised of a mixture of water and compressed air which is vaporized in a venturi-type expansion chamber prior to emission through the seeder nozzles.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 1983Date of Patent: January 15, 1985Assignee: Nubs Nob, Inc.Inventors: James L.
