  • Patent number: 5311808
Abstract: A cylinder apparatus capable of effectively restraining a loss of energy with a simple structure at a low cost. When a piston 16 of a main cylinder 11 cuts off a communication between a subchamber 20 and a supply/exhaust passage 32, a pressure of the subchamber 20 is pushed by the piston 16 and thereby increased. However, an exhaust fluid from the subchamber 20 having the increased pressure is fed to a subcylinder 62. A piston 48 is moved while controlling a velocity by a flow rate control valve 70 in synchronization with the piston 16. This arrangement eliminates a necessity for a special position detector, etc.. The structure is therefore simplified, and the cost decreases. Simultaneously, the energy can be effectively utilized because of employing the exhaust fluid.

  • Patent number: 5311829
Abstract: A process for reducing sulfur emissions and increasing particulate removal in the combustion of pulverized coal is presented. Pulverized sulfur-containing coal is injected along with combustion air into a combustion chamber and fired to create a combustion zone within the chamber, thereby creating gaseous sulfur and particulate emission products. The emission products are directed to an exhaust means where the particulate emission products are removed. A fuel having negligible sulfur content and a heating value higher than coal is injected in substantially the same direction as the coal and combustion air stream into a region of the combustion zone through which a majority of the of the gaseous sulfur emissions must pass to reach the exhaust means, thus increasing the temperature of the region in an amount sufficient to increase the sulfur content of the particulate emission products.

Abstract: Methods and suitable devices for the intermediate storage, transport and preparation as well as utilization of waste goods of all kinds are described, said waste goods being compacted down to a plurality of its original volume while maintaining their mixed and composite structure, are stored in intermediate storage and are transported in this form, if required, and are so compacted subjected to a pyrolysis. The totality of the pyrolysis products being under elevated pressure is subsequently subjected immediately to a high-temperature treatment. The compacted waste goods may be crammed into containers and are subjected to a low-temperature pressure pyrolysis. In case of ecological preparation of consumption goods such as motor vehicle wrecks or the like, a large-volume apportioning of the scrap goods is carried out by subdividing and/or crushing prior to the intermittent feeding into the pyrolysis chamber.

  • Patent number: 5311831
Abstract: In a trimming sewing machine a chain (16) is formed on a workpiece (5) at the end of a stitching, which chain must be then cut and reversed over the needle plate (2) before starting of new stitching. The chain (16) is formed on a primary tab (12) provided on a side edge (11) of the needle plate (2) and an auxiliary tab (13) disposed parallel to and in side by side relation with the primary tab (12). A chain-cutting member (17) draws the chain (16) in, disengaging it from the auxiliary tab (13) and separates it from the sewn workpiece (5). A first nozzle (20) oriented perpendicular to the sewing direction reverses the cut chain (16) over the needle plate (2). Simultaneously, a second nozzle (22) is activated and it projects an air blow towards the end (13a) of the auxiliary tab (13) so that the chain (16) on reversal is prevented from stepping over the auxiliary tab (13).

Abstract: A weight release system for selectively releasing a weight from a body. The system includes a retaining member pivotally attached to the body. The retaining member is also releasably engaged to the body distal the pivotal attachment so as to retain and secure a weight relative to the body, so that the center of mass of the weight is substantially between the pivot and the releasable engagement of the retaining member. Upon releasing the retaining member from the body, the weight causes the retaining member to pivot relative to the body so that the weight is below the pivot, thereby permitting separation of the weight from the body.

Abstract: A numerical device (10) for recording and display of individual numbers, symbols and other indicia. The display can incorporate an infinite number of indicia in rows, columns and the like to represent thousands, hundreds, tens, and single digits and the like. The normal length of each column would be up to a maximum of ten numbers. The numerals are encapsulated in a plastic containment housing (12) having chambers which contain a fluid. By depressing a particular number at a particular location, the fluid is displaced from that location and the contrasting color at the rear of the liquid containment area becomes visible after the opaque liquid has been displaced from that particular location. Each column of numbers, e.g., tens, hundreds etc. would be separately contained on, or adjacent to, one common fluid access compartment. Adjacent numeral chambers are joined by a connecting tube (32). The device (10) would normally be overcovered with an overlay membrane-(54) of paper or the like.
