Patent number: 6251471Abstract: A method for producing an electrical feedthru wherein a thin liquid conductive film is deposited into a shallow trough of an insulating machinable substrate. The conductive film and substrate are fired and then the resulting bound composite is ground flush with the adjacent surface of the insulating machinable substrate. The surface cohesion of the fired composite, and the resulting high quality surface finish of the grinding operation, combined with an elastomeric seal, create low leakage barriers capable of supporting a pressure differential while allowing isolated electrical conduction across a pressure or vacuum envelope. The method produces a space saving feedthru which allows a high signal line density in a limited space, is relatively simple to assemble, allows for disassembly rework, can be ‘designed into’ unique geometries of varied applications, and which has a single O-ring sealing across all traces.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 1999Date of Patent: June 26, 2001Assignee: University of New HampshireInventors: Mark S. Patent number: 6251511Abstract: A prefabricated roofing element in the form of a laminate consisting from its inner surface towards its outer surface exposed to poor weather conditions, of at least a first continuous layer constituting an element core based on a thermosetting binder and reinforcing materials, of a second continuous protective coating layer, consisting of a mixture of at least a synthetic resin, a constituent staining in its volume the resin and a catalyst. The roof cover element is characterized in that it further comprises at least a third discontinuous layer of paint unevenly distributed on the surface of the second layer and consisting of materials immiscible with the second layer constituents to form spots at the second layer surface.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 2000Date of Patent: June 26, 2001Assignee: SCIEL Societe de Creation Integrale pour Enterprises et LoisirsInventor: Alain Cocault

Patent number: 6251512Abstract: A writable matte article comprising a water-absorbing layer coated on a substrate. The water absorbing layer is a unique blend of a crosslinked, water absorbing polymer particle, a water insoluble binder polymer with good adhesion to the film, and optionally, inert organic or inorganic particles that impart a matte finish to the coating. Advantageously, drying times of these inks using the present invention is reduced from about 10 minutes to 10 seconds. Preferred films are polyester and polyolefin-based films.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 1997Date of Patent: June 26, 2001Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties CompanyInventors: Frederick John Gustafson, Kevin Mark Hamer, Ramesh Chand Kumar

Patent number: 6251514Abstract: A ferromagnetic powder comprising ferromagnetic particles coated with a material that does not degrade at temperatures above 150° C. and permits adjacent particles to strongly bind together after compaction such that parts made from the ferromagnetic powder have a transverse rupture strength of about 8,000 to about 20,000 pounds/square inch before sintering. The coating includes from 2 to 4 parts of an oxide and one part of a chromate, molybdate, oxalate, phosphate, or tungstate. The coating may be substantially free of organic materials. The invention also includes a method of making the ferromagnetic powder, a method of making soft magnetic parts from the ferromagnetic powder, and soft magnetic parts made from the ferromagnetic powder.Type: GrantFiled: February 11, 1999Date of Patent: June 26, 2001Assignee: Materials Innovation, Inc.Inventors: David S. Patent number: 6251516Abstract: A method of microdissection which involves forming an image field of cells of the tissue sample utilizing a microscope, identifying at least one zone of cells of interest from the image field of cells which at least one zone of cells of interest includes different types of cells than adjacent zones of cells, and extracting the at least one zone of cells of interest from the tissue sample. The extraction is achieved by contacting the tissue sample with a transfer surface that can be selectively activated so that regions thereof adhere to the zone of cells of interest to be extracted. The transfer surface includes a selectively activatable adhesive layer which provides, for example, chemical or electrostatic adherence to the selected regions of the tissue sample. After the transfer surface is activated, the transfer surface and tissue sample are separated.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 1998Date of Patent: June 26, 2001Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Department of Health and Human ServicesInventors: Robert F.
