Publication number: 20020194867Abstract: A reversible ornamental article of jewelry is disclosed having a plurality of ornamental links hinge ably secured to one another to form a flexible strand of jewelry, which can be in the form of a necklace or bracelet. The geometric configurations of the links in one planar surface differ from one another and also differ from one another in the opposite or reverse planar surface so that the jewelry article can be worn to display the ornamental geometric configurations in either planar surface. Publication number: 20020194877Abstract: Embodiments of the invention include a method for making optical fiber having reduced aging or hydrogen aging loss over the life of the fiber and optical fiber systems including such optical fibers. Improved silicon-oxygen stoichiometry during one or more preform manufacturing steps reduces the amount of Si defects generated in the optical fiber preform. Also, deuterium exposure of optical fiber drawn from the preform reduces the likelihood of having atomic defects such as Si defects in the optical fiber that, over time, attract and bond with hydrogen atoms to form molecules that contribute to increased water absorption loss. The inventive method produces optical fibers with improved transmission characteristics, e.g., optical fibers made by methods according to embodiments of the invention have transmission loss at 1385 nanometers that is less than 0.33 dB/km and the aging loss increase thereafter is less than 0.04 dB/km.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 26, 2001Publication date: December 26, 2002Inventors: Kai H. Publication number: 20020194899Abstract: The invention relates to a method and device for the determination of the gas permeability of a container, for example, a PET bottle. Said container is enclosed by a sheath, which hermetically seals the container from the environment. The intermediate space, between the container and the sheath, has only a very small volume in comparison to the volume of the container. The determination of the gas permeability is begun by bringing said intermediate space to, for example, atmospheric pressure, whilst the container is filled with a test gas by means of a special feed, until the container is at an overpressure relative to the intermediate space. The pressure in the intermediate space increases by means of the resulting diffusion of the test gas through the wall of the container into said intermediate space. The increase in pressure per unit time is a measure of the permeability of the container.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 7, 2002Publication date: December 26, 2002Inventors: Thomas Gebele, Jurgen Henrich

Publication number: 20020194912Abstract: A hydrometer comprises a transparent container including a top opening, two arcuate dividers extended from both sides of top opening for dividing the interior of container into a measuring chamber and two opposite side channels each having a bottom open end in communication with measuring chamber and a top inlet open to outside, and a pointer pivotably mounted inside measuring chamber and adapted for indicating a specific gravity of liquid (e.g., sea water) contained in measuring chamber A fluid path is formed from top inlet through channel and bottom open end into measuring chamber as container immersed in the liquid to be measured. This can avoid the generation of bubbles. Further, the time(s) of adjustment of the specific gravity of liquid can be precisely determined.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 26, 2001Publication date: December 26, 2002Inventor: Chih Yao Tu

Publication number: 20020194914Abstract: Inertial trackers have been successfully applied to a wide range of head mounted display (HMD) applications including virtual environment training, VR gaming and even fixed-base vehicle simulation, in which they have gained widespread acceptance due to their superior resolution and low latency. Until now, inertial trackers have not been used in applications which require tracking motion relative to a moving platform, such as motion-base simulators, virtual environment trainers deployed on board ships, and live vehicular applications including helmet-mounted cueing systems and enhanced vision or situational awareness displays, to the invention enables the use of inertial head-tracking systems on-board moving platforms by computing the motion of a “tracking” Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) mounted on the HMD relative to a “reference” IMU rigidly attached to the moving platform.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 21, 2002Publication date: December 26, 2002Applicant: Intersense, Inc., a Massachusetts corporationInventors: Eric Foxlin, Yury Altshuler

Publication number: 20020194915Abstract: The present invention is for a system (11) or method for conditioned based monitoring of an assembly (12). The system (11) comprises a sensor (13) placed in proximity to an assembly (12). The sensor (13) generates a signal indicative of the amplitude and frequency of the ultrasonic output of the assembly (12). A processor (14) in communication with the sensor (13) receives the signal from the sensor (13) and generates spectral data representative of the ultrasound emanating from the assembly. A database (15) comprises data representative of operating parameters of the assembly (12). The processor (15) compares the spectral data to the operating parameters and generates a signal indication of the condition of the assembly (12).Type: ApplicationFiled: May 30, 2002Publication date: December 26, 2002Inventors: Aiman Albert Abdel-Malek, Robert A. Hedeen, Larry R. Handler, Robert D. Cryer, Cecil M. Daniel

Publication number: 20020194916Abstract: A method for inspecting a clad pipe, having the steps of: transmitting longitudinal ultrasonic waves with wide-band characteristic to make it incident on an inner surface of a clad pipe, the clad pipe including a metal pipe with a coarse crystal grain structure and a different kind of clad metal built up on an inner surface thereof; and receiving reflected echoes of the longitudinal ultrasonic waves on the inner surface side thereof. When a flaw generated in an interface between the metal pipe and the different kind of metal is to be detected, the longitudinal ultrasonic waves in a frequency range of 10 to 30 MHz are preferably used as the ultrasonic waves. When the pipe thickness of the clad pipe is to be measured, the longitudinal ultrasonic waves in a frequency range of 2 to 10 MHz are preferably used as the ultrasonic waves.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 21, 2002Publication date: December 26, 2002Inventors: Ryuzo Yamada, Kenichi Kaneshige
