Publication number: 20040095904Abstract: Power control methods and apparatus for use in a sectorized cell of an OFDM communications system are described. Each sector of a cell uses the same frequencies and transmission times and is synchronized with the other sectors in the cell in terms of tone frequencies used at any given time and symbol transmission times. Tones are allocated to channels in each cell in the same manner so that each channel in a sector has a corresponding channel in another sector. Power differences between channels in different sectors are maintained to be within a pre-selected power difference. Different channels in a cell are assigned different power levels. Wireless terminals are assigned to channels based on channel feedback information. Wireless terminals with poor channel conditions are allocated to higher power channels than wireless terminals with good channel conditions. Lower power channels often include more tones per symbol time than high power channels.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 13, 2003Publication date: May 20, 2004Inventors: Rajiv Laroia, Frank A. Publication number: 20040095911Abstract: A cyclic prioritized multiple access (CPMA) method is disclosed which includes Fixed Deterministic Post-Backoff. Fixed deterministic post-backoff reduces conflicts between access points of overlapping cells. Contention-free sessions (CFSs) can be generated, one from each overlapping cell. Each active access point engages in a fixed deterministic post-backoff. A fixed deterministic backoff delay (Bkoff times a fixed number of idle time slots) is used by all access points, with the value of Bkoff being greater than the number of overlapping cells. The Bkoff should be large enough to enable the traffic that needs to be accommodated by the channel. Each access point has a backoff timer that is counted down using the shortest interframe space possible, typically the Priority Interframe Space (PIFS). A contention-free session (CFS) is initiated when the backoff timer expires, and it is then reset to the value of Bkoff to start a new cycle.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 27, 2002Publication date: May 20, 2004Applicant: AT&T Corp.Inventors: Mathilde Benveniste, AT?amp;T CORP.

Publication number: 20040095921Abstract: An automatic system for the provisioning, deployment and management of digital subscriber lines (DSL) in a telephone network uses data on loop composition, electromagnetic interference and crosstalk between lines to optimize the performance and correct problems with one or more symmetric and or asymmetric digital subscriber lines in a cable. The system optimizes DSL lines on an individual basis using measurements and data. The optimal transmit power spectral density (PSD) for each DSL can be found in an iterative manner. Starting each DSL with some predetermined starting parameter, the transmit PSD of each DSL is optimized in round-robin fashion. The crosstalk into a given DSL is calculated as the power sum of all transmissions passed through their measured crosstalk couplings. An asymmetric DSL has its transmit PSD optimized by using the “waterfilling” technique.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 27, 2003Publication date: May 20, 2004Inventor: Kenneth Kerpez

Publication number: 20040095934Abstract: A packet-forwarding engine (PFE) of a multiprocessor system uses an array of flow classification block (FCB) indices to multicast a packet. Packets are received and buffered in external memory. In one embodiment, when a multicast packet is identified, a bit is set in a packet descriptor and an FCB index is generated and sent with a null-packet to the egress processors which generate multiple descriptors with different indices for each instance of multicasting. All the descriptors may point to the same buffer in the external memory, which stores the multicast packet. A DMA engine reads from the same buffer multiple times and egress processors may access an appropriate transform control block (TCB) index so that the proper headers may be installed on the outgoing packet. The buffer may be released after the last time the packet is read by setting a particular bit of the FCB index.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 18, 2002Publication date: May 20, 2004Applicant: CoSine Communications, Inc.Inventors: Joseph Cheng, Zahid Hussain, Tim Millet

Publication number: 20040095944Abstract: An interface for a private IP network interfaces flows of packets between gateway controllers and external media gateways. It has a network address translator and an IPsec device for maintaining secure paths to the external devices. A path identifier records which of the packet flows corresponds to which path. It is incorporated in the packet header, and means that the same interface can be used to couple many different external gateways, and interface them with many of the gateway controllers. Widespread deployment of such interfaces in anonymisers to achieve hiding of device addresses and network topology, as well as the reduction in use of expensive registered addresses is facilitated. By sending the path identifier in the packet, the IPsec device and the address translator can be loosely coupled devices, so standard readily available devices can be used.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 15, 2002Publication date: May 20, 2004Inventor: Julian Mitchell

Publication number: 20040095946Abstract: A logical star architecture imposed on an underlying non-star network, for example a Virtual Path Ring (VPR), enhances a mesh protocol with an automatic method for Virtual Path ID (VPI) generation. The VPIs are used by the mesh protocol's inherent routing function to effect automatic configuration at installation, automatic reconfiguration at node updates, and automatic reconfiguration for protection switching. The imposition of the logical star architecture on a VPR reduces node-to-node switching costs (e.g., delay, as well as memory and processing costs) since all nodes in a logical star topology are at most two logical hops away. The logical star also conserves virtual path address space relative to a fully configured ring. Additionally, the imposition of the logical star architecture allows existing star functions to be deployed on the underlying network. Finally, when the underlying architecture is a ring, the protection advantages of ring networks can be preserved.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 18, 2002Publication date: May 20, 2004Inventor: Albert D. Publication number: 20040095947Abstract: A system, device, and method for supporting multiple virtual private networks in an MPOA/NHRP communication network involves encoding a Virtual Private Network (VPN) identifier in certain MPOA/NHRP control messages in order to associate those MPOA/NHRP control messages with a particular VPN, and using an in-band signaling technique to add/remove VPNs to/from a connection. Packets from multiple VPNs are multiplexed over the connection. Each packet is associated with a particular VPN. If packets do not inherently include information from which the VPN can be ascertained, then a VPN identifier is encoded in the packet. The VPN identifier may be encoded in the packet via a tagging mechanism, in which each VPN is associated with a unique tag, and a tag is included in each packet. The VPN identifier may alternatively be encoded in the packet by including the VPN identifier in the packet, for example, in a header (such as an LLC/SNAP header) within the packet.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 27, 2003Publication date: May 20, 2004Inventors: James V.
