Abstract: A gas-generating apparatus includes a reaction chamber having a first reactant, a reservoir having an optional second reactant, and a self-regulated flow control device. The self-regulated flow control device stops the flow of reactant from the reservoir to the reaction chamber when the pressure of the reaction chamber reaches a predetermined level. Methods of operating the gas-generated apparatus and the self-regulated flow control device, including the cycling of a shut-off valve of the gas-generated apparatus and the cycling of the self-regulated flow control device are also described.

Trim materials are positioned over the intumescent material to prevent tampering with and damage to the intumescent material while improving the aesthetic appearance of the frame. The jamb trim has a thickness that allows heat to be transmitted to the intumescent material in the event of a fire so that the intumescent material will expand and fill a clearance space between the frame and the door or glazing. The expanded intumescent material retards the passage of heat and, by sealing the clearance space, inhibits the transmission of smoke, flames and gases from one side of the door or glazing to the other. After expanding, the intumescent material will char and solidify, which may provide an added benefit of structural support for the door or glazing.

Abstract: Side flaps (98, 100) border openings (118) in the webs of sheet metal studs (84). End flaps (114, 116) may border the same openings. Brace members (78) extend through the openings and are connected to the studs (84) by screws that extend through the flaps and screw into the brace member (78). The brace members (78) may extend perpendicular or diagonally to the studs (84). The brace members (32, 34) may be of sectional construction with each section having a first end and a second end and with the first end being smaller than the second end and being adapted to slip into the second end of the next section of the brace member. The brace member may be a channel member (186) having a narrow closed portion (64, 66, 68) and a wider open portion (70, 72). The openings in the web have a matching shape so that the brace member is snuggly received within the openings.

Abstract: Tubes (T), coming from a production line, are supplied by means of a grouping unit (1). The grouping unit comprises a conveyor belt (10), with product holders (11) and the tubes are supplied in groups by means of a stepping motor (12). A slider (13) pushes the tubes (T) into the correct position on a mandrel support (20) of a packaging unit (2). The mandrel support (20) comprises a plate (21), which may be moved back and forth by means of a piston/cylinder unit (22) and which may be pivoted from the horizontal holding position into the vertical dispensing position. The tubes are pushed onto mandrels (25) which are mounted on the plate (21), by means of the slider (13), The tubes are thus held in exact alignment and can be filled into the carton (B) without a relative displacement or tilting of the tubes.

Abstract: In the case of nested containers to be filled by a filling station, a gripping device grasps an entire row of empty containers and conveys it to a weighing station, where the containers are weighed. Following weighing, all containers of the row are simultaneously filled and then reweighed. The containers are then reinserted into the nest and sealed, without being refilled, which allows checking the operation of the filling station without wasting product.

Abstract: A system wherein plastic wrap on round bales of cotton is partially slit starting at one end of the bale and continuing to a location offset from the opposite end of the bale. One or more partial lengthwise slits allow the cotton to fall into a gin input hopper in a controlled manner and maintain the entire wrap, including any non-adhered inner tail remnants, attached to an intact circumferential wrapper portion at the end of the bale opposite the slit end. The non-slit wrapper end portion is pulled from end of the bale, and the remaining cotton material drops into the receptacle free of contamination by any wrap material.

Abstract: A ceramic wall-flow filter for filtering particulate matter from gases and methods for manufacturing such wall-flow filters are disclosed. The filter includes an array of porous ceramic walls defining a pattern of end-plugged inlet and outlet cells, and heat absorbing elements disposed within at least some of the outlet cells such that a bulk heat capacity of the outlet cells is greater than a bulk capacity of the inlet cells. The heat absorbing elements increase a bulk heat capacity of the filter without substantially interfering with a flow of gas through the porous ceramic walls by allowing thinner walls. According to the method, during the step of extruding or thereafter, heat absorbing elements are formed within at least some of the outlet cells such that a heat capacity of the outlet cells is greater than the inlet cells.
