  • Publication number: 20070052580
Abstract: An improved system is provided for aiming a shotgun-based or other countermeasure system so as to be able to countermeasure incoming rockets or projectiles. In one embodiment a shotgun aimed and controlled by the subject system projects a pattern of pellets to intercept a rocket-propelled grenade or incoming projectile. The fire control system uses a CW two-tone monopulse radar to derive range and angle of arrival within 150 milliseconds, with range and angle of arrival measurements having approximately twice the accuracy of prior CW two-tone monopulse radars. The improvement derives from using all of the information in the returned radar beams and is the result of the recognition that one can use the Sum and Difference signals to assemble a two-by-two Rank One matrix that permits using singular value decomposition techniques to generate range and angle of arrival matrices in which all available information is used and in which noise is eliminated.

Abstract: In an radar apparatus according to the present invention, any change detected in the characteristic of a receiver circuit is corrected during normal operation or at the time of an initial adjustment before shipment from factory and, furthermore, any change occurring in the characteristic due to aging or temperature variations in the operating environment is corrected as needed. In the radar apparatus which includes a plurality of receiver circuit systems to correspond with a plurality of receiving antennas, channel signals ch1 and ch2 having the same characteristics are generated by the switching operation of a second switch from a received channel signal received by an antenna selected by a first switch, and the thus generated signals are input to the respective receiver circuit systems. Any change in characteristic is detected by comparing signal level and phase between the channel signals converted from analog to digital.

  • Publication number: 20070052583
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for determining the relative position of a mobile unit that moves from an initial location to a plurality of successive positions. The mobile unit receives signals from a plurality of navigation satellites and tracks the carrier phases of the signals during movement. For each of the received signals, carrier phase increments are calculated over a plurality of epochs. Anomalous carrier phase increments are determined and eliminated from further calculations. The non-eliminated carrier phase increments are then used to calculate coordinate increments for each of the time epochs. If, after elimination, the remaining number of carrier-phase increments is less than a threshold for a particular epoch, then coordinate increments for the particular epoch may be extrapolated using data from prior epochs. In various embodiments, least squares method and Kalman filtering may be used to calculate the coordinate increments.

Abstract: A system and method for an electronically scanned antenna is provided in which phase shifters are deposited en masse along with other electronically scanned antenna components on a wafer scale substrate using a thin film process. Alternative wafer scale sizes may be utilized to furnish a required antenna aperture area. Significant processing costs for radar and communication systems are saved utilizing the present invention as compared with contemporary discrete phase shifters that are individually mounted on an antenna. In an aspect, the phase shifter is made up of a base electrode, a barium strontanate titanate (BST) ferroelectric varactor and a top electrode. The BST ferroelectric material is a voltage variable dielectric, which generates a radiation phase. The radiation phase is regulated by a phase shifter control. The radiation phase generates an electromagnetic field about a radiating element and electromagnetic radio waves are radiated from the radiating element.

Abstract: This document represents and describes an antenna for a wireless communication terminal with at least one essentially planar radiating element, wherein at least one section of the radiating element is folded in a waving to meandering fashion. According to the invention, the folded section of the radiating element is three-dimensionally double-folded by folding lengthwise in at least two directions arranged at an angle (W) in relation to each other (R1; R2). Such a three-dimensional antenna structure creates an antenna which, while maintaining the external dimensions of a typical planar radiating element, has a significantly lower space requirement. Abstract: An apparatus for driving an interlaced plasma display panel (PDP), including a delay device, an image upper and lower edge detection device, an image border processing device, an image processing and analog control loop. The delay device receives an image signal, delays the image signal for two fields and outputs the delayed image signal. The image upper and lower edge detection device receives and analyzes the image signal, outputs the image upper and lower edge positions, saves and provides the odd field upper and lower edge data of the image signal. The image border processing device outputs the image signal after border processing according to the delayed image signal, the image upper and lower edge positions, the odd field upper and lower data. The image processing and analog control loop outputs a driving signal according to the image signal after border processing and the image upper and lower edge positions.
