Abstract: Disclosed are an electron emission display device and a driving method thereof capable of elevating a luminance and enhancing its lifetime. A pixel portion displays an image corresponding to voltages of a first electrode and a second electrode. A data driver transfers a data signal to the first electrode. A scan driver transfers a scan signal to the second electrode. A current measuring section measures an emission current flowing through the pixel portion. A power supply unit outputs an electric drive source. A voltage controller changes a voltage of an electric drive source corresponding to the emission current measured by the current measuring section. The voltage controller controls the emission current flowing through the pixel portion by the changed voltage of the electric drive source, so that a magnitude of the emission current is less than that of an initially set emission current.

Abstract: A display device (1) has electrophoretic particles (8, 9), a display element including electrodes (5, 6), between which a portion of the electrophoretic particles (8, 9) is present, a temperature sensor (25) and a processor (15) for supplying a driving pulse (32) to the electrodes (5, 6) to bring the display element to a predetermined black, gray or white state, corresponding to the image information to be displayed. For improved grayscale accuracy and optimal picture and text quality, the processor (15) is further arranged to supply pre-pulses (31) preceding the driving pulses (32). The energy of the pre-pulses (31) is increased with increased temperature measured by the temperature sensor (25) and is sufficient to release the electrophoretic particles at a first position near one of the two electrodes (5, 6), but too low to enable the particles to reach a second position near the other electrode (5 or 6).

Abstract: An accurate greyscale is obtained with more natural image updates when updating a display (310) in a bi-stable electronic reading device (300,400), such as one using an electrophoretic display, by applying a first shaking pulse (S1) to the display, applying a first portion (R1) of a reset pulse to the display following the first shaking pulse (S1), applying a second shaking pulse (S2) to the display following the first portion (R1), and applying a second portion (R2) of the reset pulse to the display following the second shaking pulse (S2). The first portion may have a standard reset duration, while the second portion has an over-reset duration. A visual shock effect is avoided which would otherwise as applied after the entire reset pulse.
