The base unit is equipped with a bus, to which the display/control units and components of the medical equipment are connected. The base unit comprises connection devices, which are used to connect the display/control units to the bus. Once a display/control unit has been connected, a configuration unit transmits configuration data to the display/control unit and only then defines which function the display/control unit is to fulfill. This permits defective display/control units to be simply replaced. The construction of the display/control units is likewise simple and not susceptible to malfunctions.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for optimizing visual consistency for a dataset of images by using observed and formulated display attributes. The formulated display attributes are derived from an analysis of a first set of images from the image repository. The formulated display attributes from the first set are combined with observer's display attributes to determine scaling factors. The optimized display attributes are then derived from the calculated scaling factors for a second set of images. In another aspect, a system and method is described where a digital image is processed in order to enhance viewing of the image on a display device in accordance to the optimized attributes associated with the observer.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided to generate automatically a mip-map chain of texture images from a portion of texture image data such that it may be used in texturing a computer graphic image. A portion of the texture image data is stored temporarily and is filtered to generate at least one lower level of mip-map data from the texture data. This lower level of mip-map texture image data is then stored for use in texturing. Preferably these are stored on a tile-by-tile basis where a tile is a rectangular area of the image being displayed.

Abstract: An improvement to sigmoidal gaussian cusp knee (SGCK) gamut mapping algorithm useful for gamut boundary descriptors (GBDS) that are defined with multiple shells rather than a single hull. The gamut mapping algorithm involves a lightness-rescaling step and a chroma compression step, in which points on each of the shells of the source GBD are mapped to corresponding points on the respective shells of the destination GBD. In situations where there is a mismatch between the number of shells in the source GBD and the destination GBD, such as a case where one of the GBDs is defined by a singly-shelled GBD whereas the other is defined by a two-shelled GBD, an induced hue slice may be constructed so as to simulate the missing shell. In addition, an induced hue slice may be constructed in a situation where lightness rescaling results in a mapping that is too steep between source and destination.

Abstract: Apparatus, systems and methods for tetrahedral color conversion for image processing are disclosed. In one implementation a system includes memory at least capable of storing and/or holding one or more color conversion look-up tables. The system also may include an image processor at least capable of determining address values in response to input color component values, accessing a selected first look-up table of two or more first look-up tables in response to the address values, and of generating output color component values in response to accessing the selected first look-up table. The system may also include an image output device responsive to the output color component values.

Abstract: Methods are disclosed to render image data over time. In one embodiment, a mapping from image data values to first and second sets of subpixels in a plurality of output frames uses brightness versus viewing angle performance measures to reduce color error when the image is viewed on the display panel at an off-normal viewing angle. In another embodiment, temporal subpixel rendering is used to improve the viewing angle in LCD displays or to improve subpixel rendering in other display technologies.

Abstract: Aspects of the subject matter described herein relate to applying effects to a target via compositing rendering layers. In aspects, an intent is determined and a area of a target copied to a surface based on the intent. Then, rendering may continue to the target without changing to another target. Later, the surface is composited back to the target to apply an effect to the target.

The graphics commands are represented by a visual tree which includes objects and resources describing the objects. The objects and resources are communicated to a composition engine that creates an analogous composition tree that is analogous to the visual tree. The composition tree is used to render the graphics or image.

Abstract: A method of navigating along a biological object with a lumen represented by a three-dimensional volume data set comprises generating a plurality of navigation segments connectable in a sequence, each segment having a start point within the lumen, a direction and a length. The navigation may be used for a camera in a virtual endoscopic examination, for example. The direction of each segment is determined by casting groups of rays outwards from the start point of the segment to the object wall, and calculating an average ray length for each group. The group having the largest average ray length is selected, and the axial direction of this group is used as the direction for the segment. The average ray lengths of the groups may be weighted using the direction of the previous segments to bias the navigation generally forward, or may be weighted using a view direction of the camera to allow a user to turn the camera into a chosen branch in the object.

Upon this determination, the processor selects a mask corresponding to the image type. Thereafter, the processor modifies the displayed image using the selected mask. As a result, a user can access other applications via an overlay menu while experiencing a current page or current application. Furthermore, a user select menu items and navigate through a menu while viewing an image in the background via a semi-transparent mask.
