  • Patent number: 7208226
Abstract: [An object of the present invention is] to provide transfer tape that maintains strong adhesive strength but can be reliably cut at a stipulated position. The adhesive film contains needle-shaped particles. If the adhesive strength is made high, then the adhesion between the adhesive ingredients is increased, thus forming a film that is difficult to cut. If a force is applied to the band-shaped ribbon in a direction outside the plane in which the adhesive coating is applied, then the film of the adhesive coating becomes thin and the needle-shaped particles rupture the film and cut the adhesive film. Moreover, the cut adhesive film draws the cut end to the needle-shaped particles, and as a result it is cut completely without stringiness.

  • Patent number: 7208249
Abstract: We are able to significantly reduce variations in critical dimension from target for features in a patterned photoresist, where the patterned photoresist is generated during the fabrication of a reticle (photomask) to be used in semiconductor processing. The ability to maintain the targeted critical dimension of patterned photoresist features which were imaged using a direct write process depends upon the use of a photoresist binder resin system which provides a sufficiently dense structure to sterically hinder the movement of photoacid-labile groups after irradiation of such groups (writing of the pattern). As importantly, the photoacid groups which are used to generate the pattern need to be such that they are activated only at temperatures above about 70° C., and preferably at temperatures in the range of 110° C. to 150° C. Further improvement in uniformity of developed photoresist feature size across the reticle surface is achieved by controlling a combination of variables during development.

  • Patent number: 7208265
Abstract: The present invention provides a method of cryopreserving sperm that have been selected for a specific characteristic. In a preferred embodiment, the method is employed to freeze sex-selected sperm. Although the cryopreservation method of the invention can be used to freeze sperm selected by any number of selection methods, selection using flow cytometry is preferred. The present invention also provides a frozen sperm sample that has been selected for a particular characteristic, such as sex-type. In preferred embodiments, the frozen sperm sample includes mammalian sperm, such as, for example, human, bovine, equine, porcine, ovine, elk, or bison sperm. The frozen selected sperm sample can be used in a variety of applications. In particular, the sample can be thawed and used for fertilization. Accordingly, the invention also includes a method of using the frozen selected sperm sample for artificial insemination or in vitro fertilization.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a specific mutation in SCN5A which causes drug-induced torsade de pointes or ventricular fibrillation. Persons with the mutation are predisposed to developing drug-induced torsade de pointes or ventricular fibrillation when administered certain drugs. This predisposition can be diagnosed in accordance with the present invention by analyzing the DNA sequence of the SCN5A of an individual. By screening patients for the mutation, drug-induced torsade de pointes or ventricular fibrillation can be avoided. Furthermore, drugs can be tested to determine whether they will cause torsade de pointes or ventricular fibrillation.
