Abstract: A highback for controlling a gliding board, such as a snowboard, through leg movement of a rider. The highback is comprised of at least two distinct materials with different stiffnesses to achieve a desired blend of stiffness and flexibility. The highback may employ a material of greater stiffness in one or more regions to provide high force transmission between the rider and-the board. The highback may employ a material of lesser stiffness in one or more regions where flexibility is desired for more gradual power transmission, comfort and/or to facilitate highback adjustability. The arrangement of the different materials provides a lightweight highback with a relatively sleek profile having selected regions of stiffness and/or flexibility.

Abstract: An activation control apparatus controls activation of an airbag unit. An electronic control unit detects a floor deceleration Gf and front decelerations GI, Gr from signals output from a floor sensor and front sensors. Also, the electronic control unit calculates a velocity change Vn from the floor deceleration Gf, and determines the severity of a collision. Further, the electronic control unit determines the state of a symmetric flag FRG through comparison between the front decelerations GI, Gr and the value of a front determination map boundary, serving as a front threshold variation pattern and through comparison between the floor deceleration Gf and the value of a low or high map boundary, serving as an activation threshold variation pattern. Then, on the basis of results of the severity determination and the state of the symmetric flag FRG, the electronic control unit determines a delay time in relation to the activation of the airbag unit.

Abstract: A safety arrangement for detecting the position of an occupant (4) of a seat (1) which is provided with a safety belt (9) which is mounted on a retractor (10) includes a sensor (11) which measures the length of belt withdrawn from the retractor. The sensor is associated with a processor unit (8) which is associated with a seat position sensor (7). By determining the position of the seat and by determining the minimum length of belt paid-out from the retractor (10) after the seat belt has been buckled in position, and by determining how additional belt has been paid-out at any incident, the position of the seat occupant (4) relative to an air-bag (19) can be determined. If the seat occupant is very close to the air-bag, the nature of deployment of the air-bag can be moderated by the central processor unit (8).

A detected signal is input into the determining unit. The determining unit determines a rollover or an overthrow of the automobile based on the detected signals, and calculates a head position of the occupant using the detected signals. Then, the determining unit activates the occupant restraint device, when the rollover is determined to have happened and the calculated head position is determined to be close to the occupant restraint device.

Abstract: A passenger-protecting system includes a pressure sensor for detecting a pressure in an inner space of a door and a side airbag installed in the door. The pressure in the inner space increases when a side collision occurs. When the pressure in the inner space of the door exceeds a predetermined threshold level, the side airbag is inflated to protect a passenger from a side collision. There are certain situations where the operation of the side airbag is not necessary even if the pressure in the inner space of the door exceeds the threshold level. Such situations include: when the door is abruptly closed and a front airbag is inflated to protect a passenger from a frontal collision. According to the present invention, unnecessary operations of the side airbag are effectively avoided.

Abstract: An energy-absorbing system includes two formed and sealed components bonded together to form crush boxes that entrap air for controlled distribution during an impact, and an activator system adapted to extend the crush boxes in the event of a vehicle crash. Channels interconnect the crush boxes for optimal control of lateral flow of air for lateral energy distribution. The components can be thermoformed, injection molded, or otherwise formed. By this arrangement, the crush boxes provide a first level of static energy absorption when impacted in an undeployed state such that energy is absorbed at a first rate and stroke. Also, the crush boxes can be extended to provide a second level of static energy absorption when impacted in a vehicle crash (i.e., the activator system is energized and the crush boxes extended or “deployed”) such that energy is absorbed at a one or more different rates and strokes.

Abstract: An adaptive crash structure of a vehicle body or chassis of a motor vehicle includes a first metal casting and a second metal casting. A deformation element in the form of a metal casting for absorbing energy interconnects and forms with the first and second metal castings a single piece construction through a casting process. The deformation element is comprised of a plurality of funnel-shaped wedge bodies which are disposed in succession, with neighboring wedge bodies being connected through intervention of a predetermined breaking web. Each wedge body is defined by a diameter, wherein the diameters of the wedge bodies are sized to allow the wedge bodies to move telescopically into one another when a limit stress is reached and the predetermined breaking webs rupture so as to effect a tight intergrip of the telescoping wedge bodies in a self-locking manner.

Abstract: The cushion pad structure of the carpet installation tool comprises a rubber covering layer, a rubber foam body and an assembly board. The foam body is disposed in the covering layer. The foam body comprises a thrust face, which has a plurality of the first holes with at least a predetermined depth. The thrust face is designed so that a technician's knee or heel receives less reaction force from the impulse imparted due to the plurality of the first holes and softened hardness. Under the impulse force, the hardness of the advance gradually cushioning structure increases its hardness slowly and generates a maximum hardness at a proper position that may be experimentally determined, efficiently transferring the maximum impulse force to the carpet installation tool. The carpet installation tool therefore provides protection for the technician's knee and ankle joints, and efficiently transfers the impulse force.

Abstract: A gripping device for use on a paint receptacle, in particular a tin of paint, has a U-shaped grip with a middle section and two flexible arms, the free outer ends of which are provided with hook-shaped parts which are a means of coupling in order to couple to a paint tin. Within the grip there is a U-shaped handle, the free outer ends of which are provided with sleeves that can slide along the arms of the grip. There are stops on the arms of the grip which limit sliding of the free outer ends of the handle in a direction towards the middle section of the grip. By pulling the middle section of the handle towards the middle section of the grip, the arms bend as a result of which the free outer ends of the arms come towards each other.

Abstract: In a glove box device, a cylinder of a cylinder lock is fixed to an operating handle, a slide member switches over a locking state and an unlocking state of a locking mechanism in correspondence to sliding motion, and a connecting member is interposed between one end of the slide member and a rotor of the cylinder lock. The connecting member transmits a turning force of the rotor turning along with the operating handle to the slide member so as to cause the slide member to slide from a locking operation position to an unlocking operation position when the rotor is in the unlocking position, but the connecting member cuts off the transmission of the turning force between the slide member in the locking operation position and the rotor when the rotor is in the locking position. Thus, it is possible to reduce the number of components to simplify the structure, thereby reducing the cost and improving the operational feeling.
