Publication number: 20070177647Abstract: The present invention intends to provide a surface-emitting laser light source capable of generating a linearly polarized laser light having a single-lobed beam profile that takes the largest intensity value in its central area. A two-dimensional photonic crystal consisting of a plate member 31 with holes 311 or 312 arranged in a square lattice pattern is provided on one side of an active layer 23. The hole 311 or 312 is designed so that its plane shape on the emission side (plane “B”) is smaller than that on the active layer side (plane “C”). The center of gravity of the shape on plane “B” is displaced from that of the shape on plane “C” in the in-plane direction. This design lowers the degree of the in-plane symmetry of the two-dimensional photonic crystal, so that a linearly polarized laser light having a single lobe is obtained.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 4, 2005Publication date: August 2, 2007Applicants: KYOTO UNIVERSITY, ROHM CO., LTD.Inventors: Susumu Noda, Eiji Miyai, Dai Onishi

Publication number: 20070177662Abstract: A line card is proposed in which one or more DMT processing modules 1 communicate with a data link layer platform, such as an ATM, POSPHY or Ethernet processor. The data relating to a single symbol is transmitted between the data link layer platform and a given one of DMT processing modules in a plurality of data portions spaced apart in time. The data portions relating to different channels of a given DMT processing module (or to different DMT processing modules) are interleaved in time. Since the data portions of a given symbol are spaced apart in time, the data relating to a single symbol is transmitted over a longer time period than in conventional devices which reduces the effective burstiness of the traffic, and thus reduces the memory requirements of the data link layer platform.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 1, 2006Publication date: August 2, 2007Inventors: Raj Jain, Hak Sim

Publication number: 20070177666Abstract: A system and method for determining the efficient number of reference frames which are to be evaluated for an image using frame level adaptation techniques. The system and method determines and updates the number of reference frames which are to be searched based on the reference frame selection statistics of the previously coded frame. Preferably, the invention increases the number of reference frames to be referred when a first desired ratio of blocks refer to the furthest reference frame. Publication number: 20070177670Abstract: The uncompressed wireless transmission of video, as with many other wireless applications, requires constant knowledge of channel characteristics at the receiver end. To estimate the channel and track its changes, pilots containing known data are sent in various parts of the used bandwidth. The use of such pilots reduces the effective bandwidth available for data transmission. Due to the relative high immunity to introduced interference of certain transmission modes, such as QPSK and QAM, pilots can be modulated by digital data components. At the receiver, pilots are demodulated and used for a decision-directed circuit to determine the characteristics of the transmission channel. The additional bandwidth allows a higher data rate which may be such used for various purposes as diversity, coding, etc. Such use of pilot signals is of particular advantage in the wireless transmission of the DC and near DC components of essentially uncompressed video.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 10, 2007Publication date: August 2, 2007Inventors: Nathan Elnathan, Meir Feder, Zvi Reznic

Publication number: 20070177679Abstract: Simple, inexpensive, general-purpose devices and methods achieve simultaneous, full-duplex and bi-directional communication of analog, digital or audio signals across a single conductor. “Sifudu” transceivers, which stands for “simultaneous and full-duplex,” reduce the number of cables necessary for transferring information between two or more terminals at a given rate, and/or facilitate information transfer at a higher rate than traditional circuits across the same number of cables. The transceivers can accomodate both digital and analog signals of arbitrary polarity. Since a sifudu circuit is capable of transmitting analog signals, it is also capable of transmitting digital signals in frequency, phase, or amplitude shift keyed form, thus opening the possibility of realizing higher baud rate than other simultaneous bidirectional communication systems that transfer digital data only, one bit at a time in each direction.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 29, 2007Publication date: August 2, 2007Inventor: Szabolcs Sovenyi

Publication number: 20070177685Abstract: An orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) demodulator demodulates an OFDM signal constituted by OFDM symbols each including at least an effective symbol and a scattered known signal. The OFDM demodulator includes a Fourier transform performing unit, a known signal extracting unit, a time dimension interpolation unit, a delay spread generating unit, a frequency dimension interpolation unit, and a waveform equalizing unit. The delay spread generating unit employs a time difference between a time point for a starting position of the Fourier transform operation performed by the Fourier transform performing unit and a time point at which a latest arriving path arrived as the delay spread.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 26, 2007Publication date: August 2, 2007Inventor: Hidetoshi Kawauchi

Publication number: 20070177686Abstract: A synchronization unit for performing timing synchronization in the time domain includes storage, a multiplier, a signal analyzer, and a timing error estimation unit. The storage stores a reference signal. The multiplier calculates a sum of minus one product shift and a sum of plus one product shift based on the reference signal. The signal analyzer calculates left and right cross-correlation points based on the sum or minus one product shift and the sum of plus one product shift. The timing error estimation unit estimates a timing error of a received signal based on the left cross-correlation point and right cross-correlation point.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 9, 2007Publication date: August 2, 2007Inventors: Noam Galperin, Yonatan Manor

Publication number: 20070177688Abstract: Systems and methods for performing space time coding are provided. Two vector?matrix encoding operations are performed in sequence to produce a three dimensional result containing a respective symbol for each of a plurality of frequencies, for each of a plurality of transmit durations, and for each of a plurality of transmitter outputs. The two vector?matrix encoding operations may be for encoding in a) time-space dimensions and b) time-frequency dimensions sequentially or vice versa.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 27, 2006Publication date: August 2, 2007Inventors: Jinsong Wu, Steven Blostein

Publication number: 20070177689Abstract: An apparatus and method for transmitting and receiving a communication signal includes selecting a pulse shape for a continuous phase modulated waveform, encoding specific information into the waveform to form a communication signal and transmitting the communication signal. The system receives the transmitted communication signal and samples the received signal at a specified rate, the sample rate being less than the symbol rate, enabling reconstructing the waveform and extracting encoded information at sub sample per symbol rates, thereby reducing the reliance on high speed wideband analog to digital converters (ADC) for high speed applications.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 9, 2007Publication date: August 2, 2007Applicant: HARRIS CORPORATIONInventors: Edward Beadle, John Dishman

Publication number: 20070177690Abstract: In a radio-controlled device for measuring time, a demodulating unit demodulates the time information from the received electric signal based on amplitude information of the target radio wave. The amplitude information is obtained from in-phase and quadrature-phase components of the target radio wave. A phase calculator calculates phase data associated with a phase of the target radio wave based on the in-phase and quadrature-phase components. A variability calculator calculates a variability of the phase data of the target radio wave relative to a reference phase. The reference phase changes at a constant rate in time according to a frequency error. The frequency error is contained in the reference signal relative to a frequency of the target carrier wave. A reception determining unit determines whether reception of the radio-controlled device is good based on the calculated variability.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 30, 2007Publication date: August 2, 2007Applicants: DENSO CORPORATION, JECO CO., LTD.Inventors: Takamoto Watanabe, Sumio Masuda
