Abstract: The invention relates to a heating element for a filter press, that can be supplied with a fluid heating medium and comprises at least one heating plate consisting of a heat-conducting material and extending essentially over a plane. Said heating plate is fixed to a base body of the heating element, exclusively in a continuous partial region, the surface of the continuous partial region being smaller than the remaining surface of the heating plate. The invention also relates to a heating element for a filter press, comprising two heating plates which are interconnected by means of spacers, outside the lateral expansion of the base body. The entire base body can be freely displaced between the heating plates, in relation thereto, at least in such a way that a thermal expansion of the heating plates and a different thermal expansion of the base body can take place.

Abstract: An extraction system and process for extracting bitumen from a slurry containing bitumen, solids and water. The system comprises a cyclone separation facility for separating the slurry into a solids component stream and a bitumen froth stream with the bitumen froth stream including water and fine solids. The bitumen froth stream is then delivered to a froth concentration facility for separating the bitumen froth stream into a final bitumen enriched froth stream, and a water and fine solids stream. The final bitumen enriched froth stream is suitable for further processing. The system of the present invention is preferably mobile so that the cyclone extraction facility and the froth concentration facility can move with the mine face at an oil sands mining site, however, it is also contemplated that the system can be retrofitted to existing fixed treatment facilities to improve the operational efficiency of such fixed facilities.

Abstract: A compound conduit containing inner and outer conduits with apertures in the former that are angled to direct jets of fluid in a rearward direction from the inner conduit into the annular space is used to draw sludge or undesirable material from a vessel without imposing a vacuum on the system. In conjunction with the compound conduit is a rotary tube seal that allows the conduit to be mounted to an orifice in a tank wall and pivoted or rotated over a range of angles. A tubing drive mechanism grasps the tubing at locations well removed from the distal end and causes the tubing to travel in the direction of the tubing axis. The gripping members in the mechanism engage the sides of the tubing and are capable of shifting position relative to each other to accommodate changes in the curvature of the tubing.
