Abstract: Generating traffic in a network environment. A traffic generator can be used to record the low level network data that is generated in response to high level user input. The traffic generator can receive instructions that identify when to start and stop recording network instructions. Once started, the high level user input is converted into low level network data and recorded. The recorded low level data thus reflects real usage and can be used to generate virtual traffic. The virtual traffic can be processed such that it represents multiple users. The response of the network or of network components to the virtual traffic can then be monitored and analyzed.

Abstract: A system and a call forwarding manager device for providing Internet telephony to a subscriber's premises via the subscriber's Internet connection, facilitated by the subscriber's analog telephone connection. Incoming analog telephone calls are received by the call forwarding manager connected to the subscribers analog telephone line, which responds by generating a request for service from a voice gateway, which may be remotely located. The voice gateway then generates an Internet telephone connection from the voice gateway to an Internet protocol telephone owned by the subscriber, and then connects the analog telephone call via the voice gateway to the Internet protocol telephone via the subscriber's Internet connection.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for dynamically adjusting the playout delay for audio signals, which mainly includes three parts of dynamic adjustment, i.e., playout delay, silence length, and jitter buffer size. In the invention, the time for playout delay is real-time adjusted according to the probability distribution of the number of packets buffered in a jitter buffer. A voice detection is taken to detect silence within a voice packet. By dynamically adjusting the silence length in the voice packets, the present invention reduces the network variation impact on the voice quality. It also overcomes the drawback of conventional techniques for estimating playout delay, and reduces the whole computation complexity of the playout delay for the voice packets.

The methods describe how telephony devices can discover and operate as a fully functional telephone system, not only on a local area network, but also across wide area network. This ability allows the deployment of a server-less telephone phone system across a large geographical area. The methods described also allow the telephone system to be logically segmented on a network, such that they don't interfere, or unintentionally share telephony resources with an unrelated deployment of a like server-less telephone system. Further still, the method also allows the packet network telephony devices to operate cooperatively with centralized telephony call processing services.

Abstract: In a wireless communication system, dynamic payload header suppression (DPHS) is applied to a data stream to reduce header overhead. DPHS allows the suppression of static fields as well as fields that change in a predictable manner (i.e., predictably dynamic fields). To suppress predictably dynamic fields, delta encoding is utilized to enable a cable modem to replace a dynamic field with information indicating how the field is different from the same field in a previous packet in the data stream. DPHS constructs a suppression mask by using a special packet called a “learn” packet. The “learn” packet is a copy of the original packet with extra bytes that guide the suppression process. It indicates that both the sending and receiving entities are to take a full copy of a packet header, which is then used as a reference to reconstruct the suppressed fields.

The control server inquires a topology database for information of how to reach the first subscriber according to the topology of the packet-switched network. A response having a topological path description is received by the control server. The message is transmitted to the first subscriber in accordance with the received topological path. Whereby, the first subscriber is assessable via a plurality of control servers in the packet-switched network.

Abstract: A multi-hop mesh network may be connected to a Local Area Network (LAN) using a MAC Bridge. One or more nodes on the mesh network may be configured as a bridge node that employs a MAC bridge. Packets that travel between stations on the LAN to nodes on the mesh network flow through one of the bridge nodes on the mesh network. The bridge nodes do not receive all the packets on mesh network, but they receive the packets that are to be transmitted across the MAC bridge. As the bridge nodes learn of new stations on the LAN they advertise routes to the other nodes within the mesh network specifying how to reach those stations. This enables MAC Bridge functionality between wireless mesh networks and 802 LANs.

Abstract: An IP inter-working gateway in an NGN includes. a transport layer module which complies with the definition of a standard TCP/IP protocol stack, for determining a service type of an IP packet from a source IP domain, and transmitting the IP packet to a service module or to a destination IP domain; the service module, for performing processing of signalling proxy, RTCP and media conversion and/or processing of control protocol for the IP packet from the transport layer module, and transmitting the IP packet processed by the service module to the destination IP domain. The embodiments of the present invention provides a method for implementing inter-working between IP domains by the IP inter-working gateway, which implements the inter-working of IP packet between heterogeneous operating networks.

Abstract: A provider system connects through a virtual private network to a site having various possible virtual private network variants. A virtual private network connection is established to site data management server through a network interface. A virtual machine server, including virtual machines, communicates with the provider system. Each virtual machine is capable of building a virtual private network tunnel connection, over a network, to a site data management server. In establishing a connection, a connection script is executed, a virtual private network is determined, and a virtual private network protocol is executed.

When a message containing data to be pushed to the local memory is received over the network on one of transport service instances, one of the descriptors is read from the pool. The data contained in the message are written to the buffer indicated by the scatter list included in the one of the descriptors.

The local memory in the line card stores state information for signals processed by the line card itself, as well as state information for signals processed by other line cards. The logic circuit and controller implement a same fault detection and signal processing algorithms as all other line cards in the group, to essentially effectuate a distributed and local hardware based control of automatic protection switching (APS) without interrupting a central processor. The line card also performs error checking and supervisory functions to ensure consistency of state among the line cards.

Abstract: Methods and corresponding systems for allocating processing resources for a number of instances (N) of a software component include determining an average processing cost (?) and a variance (?2) for the software component. Then a processing cost for the software component is estimated as a function of N, the average processing cost (?), and the variance (?2), and processing resources are allocated in response to the estimated processing cost. The software component can be partitioned into a number of blocks (L), wherein the L blocks include a required block and one or more optional blocks. In some embodiments in response to a total estimated processing cost exceeding an available processing value, selected optional blocks can be disabled to reduce the total estimated processing cost to a value equal to or less than the available processing value. The optional blocks can be prioritized and disabled in order of priority.

Abstract: Broadcast or multicast traffic is classified into different types of traffic and different transmission schedules associated with each of the different types of traffic. The different types of broadcast and multicast traffic may be implemented in an 802.11-based system where an access point is configured to classify broadcast and multicast traffic into different types and assign different transmission schedules to each of the different traffic types. An associated wireless station may thereby wake from a power save mode only at intervals corresponding to delivery times of the types of traffic that the wireless station has elected to receive. In some aspects the different types of broadcast and multicast traffic may comprise user plane traffic and control plane traffic.
