Publication number: 20070214888Abstract: An integrally micromachined acceleration sensor has a mass with a surface facing a stopper. At least one protrusion projects from this surface toward the stopper. In the absence of acceleration, the protrusion is spaced apart from the stopper, but by limiting motion of the mass toward the stopper, the protrusion improves the shock resistance of the acceleration sensor. The protrusion also prevents the mass from sticking to the stopper during the fabrication process. The stopper may have a pattern of holes surrounding the protrusion, so that the protrusion is produced naturally during the wet etching process that separates the mass from the stopper. The holes also shorten the wet etching time.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 14, 2007Publication date: September 20, 2007Inventor: Akihiko Nomura

Publication number: 20070214931Abstract: A stringed musical instrument employs springs to apply tension to corresponding musical strings. Each spring is chosen and configured for its ability to impart a string tension generally matched to the appropriate tension of the string at perfect tune. Preferably, the spring is selected and arranged so that the tension in the string maintains at or near perfect tune even as the string elongates or contracts over time. In one embodiment, once a string is placed in appropriate tune, a mechanical visual indicator is set. As such, if tune of the string changes due to string elongation or contraction, the change is reflected by misalignment of the mechanical visual indicator even if the change cannot be aurally detected. Perfect tune can be reestablished by realigning the indicator. In another embodiment, a force modulating member is interposed between a spring and its corresponding musical string.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 15, 2007Publication date: September 20, 2007Inventor: Cosmos Lyles

Publication number: 20070214932Abstract: A tailpiece for a banjo with individual string adjustment control for independently adjusting the string angle of the banjo strings with respect to the bridge. The tailpiece includes a mounting bracket having a bearing plate and an attachment means for attaching the tailpiece to the banjo head. A separate lever arm is provided for attaching each of the banjo strings to the tailpiece and setting the string angle with respect to the bridge. Each lever arm has an a pin for attaching to the loop at the end of the banjo string, an angled bore to permit the banjo string to pass from the top surface of the lever arm to the bottom surface of the lever arm, and a groove at the end of the lever arm to prevent the string from sliding off of the lever arm. Each lever arm is attached to the mounting bracket by a pivot joint. Screws are provided on the lever arm to adjust the standoff of the lever arm with respect to the bearing plate, thereby adjusting the string angle with respect to the bridge.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 20, 2006Publication date: September 20, 2007Inventor: Tommy Stalans

Publication number: 20070214933Abstract: A device for adjusting the tension of the strings of a guitar having at least two strings, particularly an electric guitar or a bass, particularly an electric bass, in which each string of the guitar or bass is, with one end, wound on a turning peg of an adjusting mechanism mounted on the neck of the guitar or of the bass. The adjusting mechanism contains a combination consisting of a worm shaft and of a worm wheel and, due to these, is provided with a self-locking ability. The aim of the invention is to improve the design of a device of the aforementioned type so that, without considerably altering the basic shape of the guitar or of the bass, this device can automatically adjust the tension of individual strings of the instrument reliably and precisely whereby ultimately enabling them to be tuned. To this end, a drive unit for each adjusting mechanism is mounted on the neck of the guitar or of the bass.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 24, 2005Publication date: September 20, 2007Inventor: Christopher Adams

Publication number: 20070214934Abstract: A tremolo device with a movable bridge, an adjustment device, and a support frame is implemented on an acoustic guitar, with features that can also be employed on an electric guitar or other stringed instruments. The movable bridge holds strings of the musical instrument in tension. The adjustment device, such as a tremolo bar, moves the bridge to change the tension of the strings. The support frame engages the bridge at a first area and engages the musical instrument at a larger second area. When the tremolo device is used, the support frame receives a force over the first area and transmits a corresponding force to the musical instrument over the larger second area, reducing the pressure that would be experienced by the musical instrument. The support frame also transmits string vibration received through the bridge to the instrument body to produce proper acoustic tones.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 6, 2007Publication date: September 20, 2007Inventor: Predice HENDRICKS

Publication number: 20070214936Abstract: A coiled blank defines two elongated parallel bands and a parallel web separating the bands. Opposite ends of the web form diagonally opposed spacer strips arranged such that, when the blank is coiled to bring the ends of the web into juxtaposition, the opposed spacer strips define between themselves an open triangle having a base lying along an edge of one of the bands. Preferably the triangle base lies along the band of greater thickness in the coiled configuration. A second embodiment provides three parallel bands and two webs. When the second blank is coiled, the second web also forms an open triangle with exposed base between opposed diagonal end spacer strips at its juxtaposed opposite ends.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 17, 2006Publication date: September 20, 2007Inventor: Donald Novy
