Abstract: A flat cable jacket slitter including a housing, a longitudinal channel within the housing sized to allow the cable to be moved longitudinally within the channel, a cutting blade within the housing, and a movable cam. The movable cam may be positioned within the housing and configured to move between a threading position that allows the cable to be easily moved longitudinal within the channel without substantially engaging the cutting blade and a cutting position that causes the cutting blade to cut a longitudinal slit into an edge of the jacket when the cable is moved longitudinally within the channel. The movable cam may form a longitudinal sub-channel within the housing.

Abstract: Methods for reducing warp potential of lumber derived from a raw material, such as a log or stem are provided. The methods involve examining the log or stem for shrinkage properties and/or properties of spiral grain. The location of the shrinkage properties and/or properties of spiral grain determine how the log is oriented relative to a cutting device. In another embodiment, these characteristics determine what cutting pattern is selected for creating the lumber. In the case of a stem, these characteristics determine how the stem will be bucked.

Abstract: The invention relates to a cross cutting device and a corresponding operating method for manufacturing cut-out portions from a flat material web which is moved in a direction of transportation. The device has two cross cutting units which each have a fixed blade and a rotating blade arranged on a rotational element, and said cross cutting units are spaced apart from one another in the direction of transportation. The second rotational element can be connected to a suction device in such a way that in a case of application the cut-out portion is at least temporarily secured on the second rotational element. According to the invention, the second rotational element has, along its circumferential face, a plurality of zones, to which suction air can be applied individually and/or in combination, in order to secure cut-out portions of different formats.

Abstract: An anti-recoil system for counteracting recoil in firearms and weapons using a gas actuated piston assembly is disclosed. A recoil piston is acted upon by gas pressure routed from the receiver/barrel. High pressure gas causes forward movement of the recoil piston thereby generating a force opposing the recoil generated upon firing. A shock absorbing bumper connected to the piston engages the weapon's rearwardly moving bolt assembly. The bolt assembly forces the recoil piston rearward and compresses the bumper and expanded gas in the recoil piston chamber thereby absorbing additional recoil forces. Upon reaching a rear most position a gas relief valve is opened allowing venting of the compressed gases at which point the bolt operating main spring propels the bolt assembly forward, stripping the top round out of the ammunition magazine, loading the next round, locking the bolt and freeing the firing pin to fire the next round.

Abstract: In an actuator, a first piston is attached to a first toothed rack, and a second piston is attached to a second toothed rack. A rotary member is attached to one pinion mating with the first or second toothed racks. A first volume is disposed in the cavity on one side of the first piston. A second volume is disposed in the cavity on another side of the first piston. A third volume is disposed on a side of the second piston opposite the second volume. A first fluid port is in fluid communication with the first volume via a primary fluid passage. A second fluid port, which is external to the cavity, is in fluid communication with the second volume. A fluid passage in the housing, external to the cavity and separate from the primary fluid passage connects the first and third volumes independently of the primary fluid passage.

Abstract: The method for removing mercury from a flue gas stream of the present invention is comprised of first treating a sorbent with a metal halide, and then contacting a sufficient amount of the sorbent with a gas stream for a sufficient amount of time to bind with a desired amount of the mercury in said gas stream. The metal is selected from Groups I and II of the periodic table of the elements. The halide is selected from the group consisting of I, Br, Cl. The metal halide comprises from about 0.5% to 25% by weight of said treated sorbent.

Abstract: A precleaner arrangement for use in separating a portion of entrained material in air from air entering an air cleaner, is provided. The precleaner arrangement includes a vane structure positioned to direct air into a circular or cyclonic pattern, to facilitate material separation. The vane structure includes one or more adjustable air deflection vanes. Each adjustable air deflection vane is constructed: to have a first position under no air flow or low air flow rate conditions; and, to deflect to import a more open, lower restriction, orientation under increased air flow rates. Preferred precleaner arrangement constructions, assemblies utilizing in the precleaner arrangement and methods are described.
