  • Patent number: 7319513
Abstract: The invention concerns solid-state gyrolasers used to measure rotation speeds or relative angular positions. This type of equipment is used, in particular, in aeronautical applications. The purpose of the invention is to complete the optic devices required to control the instability of lasers, using specific optic devices that eliminate the blind region. In this way, a “fully optic” solid-state laser is obtained, without moving parts, stable, and without blind regions. These devices comprise in particular reciprocal and nonreciprocal optical rotators, arranged so that two counter-propagating optical modes travel in the cavity at sufficiently different frequencies to avoid mode locking.

  • Patent number: 7319518
Abstract: The invention is a method of inspecting a semiconductor wafer surface for scratches. The method includes positioning a semiconductor wafer for illumination by a radiation source and adjacent a background material that will absorb radiation from the radiation source, directing radiation at a surface of the wafer from the radiation source that has a wavelength that will be absorbed by the fundamental absorption of the wafer, filtering or otherwise limiting the radiation to allow only radiation having wavelengths that are absorbed by the fundamental absorption of the wafer to pass, and detecting radiation scattered on the surface of the wafer and filtered, by position, to thereby identify the location of the scratches on the surface of the wafer, while the absorption of the background material prevents other radiation from the source from interfering with the detection of the scratch-scattered radiation.

  • Patent number: 7319530
Abstract: A system and method is disclosed for measuring a germanium concentration in a semiconductor wafer for manufacturing control of BiCMOS films. Germanium is deposited over a silicon substrate layer to form a silicon germanium film. Then a rapid thermal oxidation (RTO) procedure is performed to create a layer of thermal oxide over the silicon germanium film. The thickness of the layer of thermal oxide is measured in real time using an interferometer, an ellipsometer, or a spectroscopic ellipsometer. The measured thickness of the layer of thermal oxide is correlated to a germanium concentration of the silicon germanium film using an approximately linear correlation. The correlation enables a value of the germanium concentration in the silicon germanium film to be provided in real time.

  • Patent number: 7319532
Abstract: Disclosed is a printing control apparatus in which a printing instruction is once converted into an intermediate code format and then converted into a printer control command, and which can correctly print an embedded font. In this invention, a spooler for converting a printing instruction into an intermediate code format and storing this intermediate code format detects the presence/absence of an embedded font on the basis of font attributes contained in the printing instruction. If an embedded font is detected, the spooler acquires the embedded font (S3.3) and spools the font by the intermediate code format (S3.4). The despooler registers the spooled embedded font in a graphic engine (D3), and a printer driver generates a control command by using the registered embedded font (Drv3.1).

Abstract: A method for halftoning includes the steps of defining a first set of weight sets, and defining a second set of weight sets. A first error associated with a first pixel location of a plurality of pixel locations is diffused to a first neighboring at least one pixel location using a first weight set selected from the first set of weight sets, and a second error associated with a second pixel location of said plurality of pixel locations is diffused to a second neighboring at least one pixel location using a second weight set selected from the second set of weight sets. The first diffusing step and the second diffusing step are alternately performed along each scanline in the image to reduce visual artifacts.

  • Patent number: 7319550
Abstract: While Fourier transformation of a signal light beam is performed to perform recording during holographic recording so that a focal point is formed outside a holographic recording layer (defocus recording), an aperture is arranged on an outgoing side of the reproduced signal light beam (reproduction light beam), the reproduction light beam is focused at the aperture, and low-order components of a Fourier transform image of the reproduction light beam are selectively transmitted to detect only the transmitted light beam. Therefore, information recorded as the hologram in the holographic recording layer can be reproduced with high S/N ratio from the holographic recording layer added onto a support body, particularly onto a sheet member having non-optical quality such as paper and a plastic card.

  • Patent number: 7319551
Abstract: An optical device generated by interferometric lithography, in the form of a surface relief pattern that diffracts light, to be used mainly in optical security, produced by optical systems compliant with the Schimpflug and hinge Rules containing: two identical lenses L1 and L2, two physical object location B1 e B2 and one image plane A1?A2. No physical mask is needed throughout the origination process, thus eliminating any kind of border effects. The device actually implements an in-plane focused hologram, with a complex surface pattern of valleys and ridges with a non-trivial generating function, which is, by itself, both an additional security feature of the device and its fingerprint. The time to generate the optical device is proportional to the number of colours specified for the reference geometry and not depend on the overall area of the optical device.

  • Patent number: 7319557
Abstract: A fused thermal and a direct view aiming sight includes an optical gun sight, a thermal sight, and a beam combiner. The optical sight generates a direct view image of an aiming point or reticle superimposed on a target scene. The thermal sight generates a monochromic thermal image of the target scene. The combiner is positioned behind a 1× non-magnified optical sight and the thermal sight and in front of an exit pupil of the thermal sight. The combiner is positioned right behind the intermediate image plane of a magnified optical sight between an objective lens and an eyepiece. The combiner passes the direct view image and reflects the thermal image to the exit pupil to fuse the thermal image onto the direct view image for an operator to see at the exit pupil as a combined thermal and direct view optical image of the target scene together with the aiming reticle.

  • Patent number: 7319560
Abstract: A tunable Fabry-Perot filter that is less sensitive to angle of incidence is formed by replacing the cavity (air gap) with a partitioned cavity that has an effective refractive index greater than one. The partitioned cavity includes a pair of partitioned cavity dielectric layers formed on the reflectors on either side of the variable air gap. Each of the dielectric layers has an optical thickness that is less than one fourth the shortest wavelength in the tuning range of the filter.
