Abstract: Applications in a broadcast environment distribute events in real-time to a large number of receivers within specified geographic locations while efficiently sharing bandwidth resources with other applications using the same broadcast network. Applications need not be aware of the other applications sharing the resources, nor of the methods, protocols, and other mechanisms used to actually broadcast the data over the broadcast medium. Server-side applications that serve data, send notifications, or distribute events to specific locations within the network use a broadcast location manager. Client applications that receive such data, notifications, or events use a client location filter to obtain events that are relevant based on the location of the device. The broadcast location manager and client location filter work together to reliably and efficiently transmit data, notifications, and events to specific locations over the broadcast network for all applications involved.

Abstract: By arranging base stations in a wireless protocol with an ability to handle air interface transmissions on a class of service basis, as opposed to a specific station identification basis, mobility across base stations is achieved. In one embodiment, each station is assigned a class of service and each station can connect to any base station that recognizes that station's class of service. Class of service could, for example, be based on throughput required, fees paid by the station, etc. In this manner, the base station need only know the class of service of a station and then can extend service to that station or not based on factors controlled from each base station. In one embodiment, the class of service information provided with the 802.16f management model is used to verify the class of service of a station and to update base stations.

The method sends a register request message from the UE to the GANC that indicates a GAN mode capability of A/Gb only for the UE. When the GANC has a GAN mode capability of A/Gb, the GANC registers the UE with the GAN. When the GANC has a GAN mode capability of Iu only, the GANC rejects the register request message. Abstract: An object is, when a mobile terminal performs a handover, to more quickly reset a path after the handover and reduce interrupt time (particularly interrupt time of a QoS path) of packet communication. For example, in a state in which a MN 101 has not acquired an address (NCoA) of a new connection destination (AR 109), the MN 101 requests that a QNE (proxy) 123 start a process of establishing a QoS path used when the MN 101 is connected to a new connection destination. The QNE (proxy) makes a resource reservation between the ONE (proxy) itself and a CN 121. As a result, in an upper stream above a QNE (CRN 115), new path information (filter B) is correlated with path information (filter A) used when the MN is connected to an AR 105. Until when the MN uses the actual new CoA and updates the QoS path after movement, the data packet is encapsulated by a proxy node and transmitted based on the path information (filter B).

Abstract: Even when transmitted waves of multiple systems become approximately out of phase while diversity transmission is performed in a W-CDMA wireless system, synchronization establishment determination is more adequately performed. In a W-CDMA wireless system 1, even if it is determined in a normal synchronization establishment determination that synchronization cannot be established, when a phase difference in a common channel of a 0-system and a 1-system is within a certain range and a reception quality of the common channel (or a dedicated channel) has reached a certain level, it is determined that the synchronization can be established. Therefore, even when the transmitted waves of the multiple systems become approximately out of phase while the diversity transmission is performed in the W-CDMA wireless system, the synchronization establishment determination can be more adequately performed depending on whether or not communication is possible in an actual state.

Abstract: A method for encoding a broadcast channel protocol data unit (BCH PDU) based on a broadcast control channel (BCCH) scheduling error in a universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS) having a Node B and a radio network controller includes setting up a call between the radio network controller and the Node B to receive system information and scheduling information for a system information update from the radio network controller; initializing broadcast channel protocol data units and control information for every system frame number (SFN) at the Node B; and detecting the broadcast control channel scheduling error on the scheduling information for the system information update based on segment types of the system information when combining the system information for every system frame number. In case the broadcast control channel scheduling error is not detected, the broadcast channel protocol data units are encoded to be incorporated therein the system information.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the localization of a telephone terminal for a voice link conducted via a packet network. The telephone terminal is registered with the call number and allocated localization information in a server which is localized in the packet network. If the localization of the telephone terminal is triggered as a result of a voice link, the localization information associated with the call number is queried in the server in order to localize the telephone terminal using the call number of the telephone terminal is determined using the localizing information. The invention enables known terminal localization performance criteria for TDM networks to also be used directly for telephone terminals which are connected to a packet network.

Abstract: A call is established between a user at a mobile device and a contact logged into a communication service through a computer application. A user selects a contact through a page displayed on a mobile device. The contact may be an email address, a messaging username, or some other contact other than a phone number. A call registration record with the contact data is generated at a network server. The mobile device places a call to a VoIP system, the VoIP system receives the call, retrieves the call registration record and establishes an audio connection between the cell phone and the computer application through which the contact is logged into the communication service. The audio connection is a hybrid connection consisting of a mobile device voice connection between the caller's cell phone and a gateway system and a VoIP connection between a computer and the gateway system.

Abstract: Aspects of the present invention are directed at integrating the functions of a computer and an IP phone without requiring an intermediary computing device to manage the exchange of control information. In accordance with one embodiment, a method is provided for initiating a call from a computer that remotely accesses functions on an IP phone. More specifically, the method includes causing one or more functions executed on the IP phone to be exposed to the computer. In response to receiving a request from a computer to initiate the call, the method causes a first control message to be transmitted from the computer to the IP phone. In this regard, the first control message is configured to access a function exposed on the IP phone for generating the call to the remote user. Then, the first control message is converted into a second control message that is transmitted over an IP data network to the remote user.

Abstract: A method and arrangement for providing updated information on the availability of multimedia options to terminal users. A first terminal (A) is initially engaged in a voice call with a second terminal (B) by using a first access (100) admitting simultaneous multimedia communication. At least one available multimedia option (104,106) is indicated based on capabilities of the first and second terminals. A change of connection is then detected from the first access to a second access (200) not admitting simultaneous multimedia communication. In response thereto, a multimedia disabling notification is sent to the second terminal, and said at least one multimedia option is indicated as being no longer available (204,206). Preferably, the multimedia disabling notification is sent as an SMS message.

Abstract: Systems and methods for providing interaction management to network devices in a communication network are described. A gateway may be used to implement the interaction capabilities on packet flows for IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) and multimedia domain (MMD) architectures. Interaction managers and proxy agents can be provided by the gateway, such as a service control interaction manager (SCIM). The SCIM can be a layer and manage interactions between network devices such as mobile nodes and application servers and can provide abstraction of network devices. This can allow the gateway to provide interworking between network devices and handle mobile nodes with different capabilities.

Abstract: A hybrid telephony system with packet switching as well as circuit switching optimizes utilization of transport networks, and is accessible from any conventional telephone set. A call originating from a circuit-switched network is passed through a gateway computer to a backbone packet-switched network, and then through a second gateway computer to a second circuit-switched network where it terminates. The voice of both the originating party and the terminating party is converted to data packets by the near-end gateway computer and then converted back to voice by the far-end gateway computer. In an alternative scenario, the originating party uses a computer on the packet-switched network, which replaces the originating circuit-switched network, and the originating computer.
