Publication number: 20080156978Abstract: Disclosed are a device and method for improved interfacing of differential mobility spectrometry (DMS) or field asymmetric waveform ion mobility spectrometry (FAIMS) analyzers of substantially planar geometry to subsequent or preceding instrument stages. Interfacing is achieved using curved DMS elements, where a thick ion beam emitted by planar DMS analyzers or injected into them for ion filtering is compressed to the gap median by DMS ion focusing effect in a spatially inhomogeneous electric field. Resulting thinner beams are more effectively transmitted through necessarily constrained conductance limit apertures to subsequent instrument stages operated at a pressure lower than DMS, and/or more effectively injected into planar DMS analyzers. The technology is synergetic with slit apertures, slit aperture/ion funnels, and high-pressure ion funnel interfaces known in the art which allow for increasing cross-sectional area of MS inlets. The invention may be used in integrated analytical platforms, including, e.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 29, 2006Publication date: July 3, 2008Inventors: Alexandre A. Publication number: 20080156980Abstract: In a mass spectrometer a target volume is filled with ions of different mass but substantially the same energy from a distant storage device by forming a plurality of spatially-limited ion swarms consisting of ions having the same mass. The ion swarms are ordered either by a mass-sequential extraction from the storage device or by rearranging the order of flight as the ions are in flight, so that swarms of different mass ions simultaneously enter the target volume despite having different flight velocities. A mass-sequential extraction in the order of decreasing mass can be achieved in one embodiment by decreasing a pseudopotential barrier at the storage device which causes the heavy ions to emerge first. In another embodiment, the ions can be rearranged in flight by applying a bunching potential. A second reverse bunching potential then restores the energy of the ions to their original values.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 18, 2007Publication date: July 3, 2008Applicant: BRUKER DALTONIK GMBHInventors: Oliver Rather, Karsten Michelmann, Jochen Franzen

Publication number: 20080156982Abstract: Circuits for correcting base line shift of the detector coupling circuit of a TOFMS provide gain and impedance characteristics that compensate for the AC coupling effect of the detector. In one circuit, base line correction is achieved by injecting a current equal to that which flows due to the buildup charge in the detectors AC coupling network. In another circuit, the current source drives an integrator which is coupled to the signal path to reduce the detector AC coupling effects. In another circuit, a low noise amplifier utilizes a feedback network that reduces the detector AC coupling effects. In yet another circuit, an operational amplifier is employed to reduce the detector AC coupling effects.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 20, 2007Publication date: July 3, 2008Inventor: Ted J. Casper

Publication number: 20080156987Abstract: A high quality electron microscopy sample suitable for electron holography is prepared by forming markers filled with TEOS oxide and by repeatedly applying multiple coats of an adhesive followed by a relatively low temperature cure after each application. TEOS oxide marker is readily visible during the polish, has a similar polish rate as semiconductor material, and reduces contamination during the sample preparation. Publication number: 20080157011Abstract: The present invention is made to provide an extreme ultraviolet light source target or an X-ray source target having a good operationality. An extreme ultraviolet light source target in accordance with an aspect of the present invention is obtained by including a heavy metal such as tin into a matrix made of a polymeric material such as hydroxylpropylcellulose (HPC). Publication number: 20080157016Abstract: A valve device includes a valve body having a cavity, a stopper member in the cavity, and a fluid passage in fluidic communication with the cavity when the valve device is in an open state. A stem is coupled to the stopper member for driving the stopper member to open or close the valve. The stem extends through a stem aperture in the valve body. A first self-expanding seal around the stem is used to seal off an annular gap around the stem. A second self-expanding seal and a third self-expanding seal are disposed around the fluid passage substantially concentrically to prevent leakage. A method for assembling and sealing the valve device, and a valve system are also provided.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 31, 2007Publication date: July 3, 2008Inventor: Gregory J. Parra

Publication number: 20080157018Abstract: Disclosed is a valve/seal assembly that is adapted for use in a variety of applications, such as for example, medical, consumer beverage, pharmaceutical containers, automobile, household appliance and marine. The disclosed valve includes, inter alia, a valve housing having an upper body portion and a lower body portion and a generally spherical valve member. The upper and lower body portions of the housing define an internal chamber for accommodating the valve member and a central axis for the valve. The generally spherical valve member is seated within the internal chamber of the valve housing and has an axial bore extending therethrough. The valve member is mounted for movement between an open position; wherein the axial bore of the valve member is axially aligned with the inlet and outlet ports of the valve housing, and a closed position; wherein the axial bore of the valve member is out of alignment with the inlet and outlet ports of the valve housing.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 15, 2006Publication date: July 3, 2008Inventors: Michael Ross Kessell, Paul Neville Adams, Steven Lyle Weir, Henry Bolanos

Publication number: 20080157019Abstract: A oneway valve for an automatically inflatable air cushion includes a valve body having an air inlet port and an air outlet port, a valve seat mounted in the valve body and formed with a plurality of conducting holes connected to the air inlet port and the air outlet port, and a valve stem movably mounted in the air inlet port and movable to seal the conducting holes. Thus, the oneway valve prevents the air from leaking from the air cushion during the inflation process and prevents the air from entering the air cushion during the deflation process, so that the air cushion is inflated and deflated completely and exactly.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 3, 2007Publication date: July 3, 2008Applicant: FENG YI OUTDOOR LEISURE EQUIPMENT ENTERPRISE CO., LTDInventor: Ping-Ting Lin

Publication number: 20080157020Abstract: A linear sliding gate valve (10) for a metallurgical vessel comprises a slide plate (20) with a first orifice (30) and a fixed plate (22) with a second orifice (32). A slideable tray (26) supports the slide plate (20) and is arranged to slide the slide plate (20) relative to the fixed plate (22) so as to control an outflow of the metallurgical vessel by the relative position of the first and second orifices (30; 32). The slide plate (20) is rotatable relative to said slideable tray (26). The sliding gate valve further comprises a ratchet mechanism (40; 140) for providing defined angular positions of the slide plate (20). The ratchet mechanism (40; 140) is mounted on the slideable tray (26) such that the slideable tray (26) forms the fixed frame of the ratchet mechanism (40; 140).Type: ApplicationFiled: January 12, 2006Publication date: July 3, 2008Applicant: TECHGATE S.A.Inventors: William Rose, Dominique Verrelle, Albert Gauche
