Patent number: 7511912Abstract: Method and apparatus for certifying servo sectors on recording surfaces of a disc stack of a data storage device to promote servo sector alignment among the various recording surfaces. A reference servo sector pattern is written to a first recording surface, the reference pattern comprising a plurality of angularly spaced apart servo sectors. Multiple interleaved sets of servo sector patterns are written to each of the remaining recording surfaces, each interleaved pattern respectively comprising a plurality of angularly spaced apart servo sectors. A selected interleaved pattern is identified from each of the remaining surfaces that provides a desired alignment with the reference servo sector pattern, and the non-selected servo sector patterns are overwritten. The servo patterns can be written to the discs prior to installation using a multiple disc writing (MDW) station, or after installation of the discs into the data storage device using a servo track writing (STW) station.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 2002Date of Patent: March 31, 2009Assignee: Seagate Technology LLCInventors: Nathaniel Boyd Wilson, Reed David Hanson, Timothy Francis Ellis

Patent number: 7511922Abstract: A medium-opposed surface of a slider body is opposed to a recording medium. A rail is defined on the medium-opposed surface. A groove is defined on the medium-opposed surface between the trailing end of the rail and the trailing end of the medium-opposed surface. A lubricating agent is forced to flow into the groove based on the meniscus effect. Airflow acting on the medium-opposed surface serves to lead the lubricating agent along the groove to the edge of the medium-opposed surface. The lubricating agent is then blown over from the end of the groove at the edge of the medium-opposed surface. The lubricating agent is in this manner prevented from staying between the trailing end of the rail and the trailing end of the medium-opposed surface. The head slider is thus allowed to keep flying in a stable flying attitude.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 2005Date of Patent: March 31, 2009Assignee: Fujitsu LimitedInventors: Takayuki Musashi, Yoshiharu Kasamatsu

Patent number: 7511957Abstract: A cooled electronic module and method of fabrication are provided employing a cooling apparatus for removing heat from one or more electronic devices disposed on a substrate. The cooling apparatus includes a supply manifold structure having a plurality of inlet orifices for injecting coolant onto a surface to be cooled, and a return manifold structure. The return manifold structure, which is fabricated of a thermally conductive material, has a base surface sealed to the surface to be cooled along a periphery thereof employing a thermally conductive, coolant-tight seal. The return manifold structure provides at least one return passageway for exhausting coolant after impinging on the surface to be cooled, wherein coolant exhausting through the at least one passageway cools the return manifold structure, thereby facilitating further cooling of the surface to be cooled in a region where the base surface is sealed to the surface to be cooled.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 2006Date of Patent: March 31, 2009Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Levi A. Patent number: 7511958Abstract: A heat dissipating assembly of a heat dissipating device includes an integral formed plastic retaining seat; and a heat conductive tube. A part of one end of a heat conductive tube is embedded into the plastic retaining seat and another end of the heat conductive tube is connected to a heat dissipation device. In using, the heat conductive tube is placed above the heat source. Wherein heat dissipated from the heat source is transferred to the heat conductive tube and then to the heat dissipation device so as to be dissipating out; and thus the heat source has a stable working environment. The plastic retaining seat is used to replace the prior art metal seat, which is easily manufactured and is light. Thus the cost is low and the size thereof is compact. Moreover, few steps are necessary in manufacture and the cost in assembly is low.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 2006Date of Patent: March 31, 2009Inventor: Cheng-Hsing Lin
