Publication number: 20100126968Abstract: There is disclosed a welding frame for welding a first pipe having a first free end to a second pipe having a second free end; the frame comprising a first clamp for reconforming the first pipe adjacent its first free end and a second clamp for reconforming the second pipe adjacent its second free end; and a mounting frame mounting the first and second clamps in substantially coaxial relation. The first clamp and second clamp are actuable to hold the first free end of the first pipe in close coaxial opposition with the second free end of the second pipe for welding. There are also disclosed clamps for a frame for welding pipes, dies for use with the clamps, and methods for welding pipes.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 16, 2009Publication date: May 27, 2010Inventor: Justin Vaughn Page

Publication number: 20100126969Abstract: An adjustable vacuum and support system for evacuating particulate matter, smoke, excess gasses, and molten metal from a work area during TIG welding and for providing adjustable support to a welding head. The vacuum system has a vacuum head and a vacuum nozzle. An adjustable mounting bracket arrangement has a first portion fixed to the vacuum head and a second portion securable to the welding head. The bracket arrangement establishes pivotal and slidable couplings between the welding head and the vacuum head. The vacuum nozzle has a support surface for being rested on a surface of a workpiece to support the vacuum head and the welding head. The support surface of the vacuum nozzle can be a base bevel surface at the tip of the nozzle. An opposed suction bevel surface can have a nozzle aperture interposed therealong.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 19, 2009Publication date: May 27, 2010Inventor: Charles Klangos

Publication number: 20100126971Abstract: A process for producing through-holes in a sheet member to form a perforated article, such as an arcuate (non-planar) acoustic skin suitable for use in an acoustic panel of an aircraft engine nacelle. The process includes deforming a sheet member to have an arcuate shape with an arcuate surface, mounting and rotating the arcuate-shaped sheet member on a mandrel and then, while rotating the sheet member, directing an electron beam at the arcuate surface of the sheet member and deflecting the electron beam toward multiple locations on the arcuate surface to produce the through-holes through the sheet member in a defined hole pattern and thereby yield a perforated arcuate-shaped sheet member with holes having axes substantially normal to the arcuate surface. The holes are not subjected to elongation in a nonuniform manner after they are produced, and have the same transverse cross-sectional shape.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 26, 2008Publication date: May 27, 2010Applicant: MRA SYSTEMS, INC.Inventors: David P. Publication number: 20100126972Abstract: The present invention provides a method of removing a coated resin layer of a resin-coated metal tube whereby a resin layer can be stripped rapidly without the risk of damaging a plating layer. In a method of removing a coating resin layer of a resin-coated metal tube according to the present invention, a coating resin layer is removed by a rotating body of a rotating body stripping apparatus, whereupon the coating resin layer is removed by a laser beam of a laser apparatus.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 24, 2009Publication date: May 27, 2010Inventors: Takanori Kon, Yoshihide Tabayashi, Kazunori Takano, Takaaki Motohashi, Toshio Oshima, Naoki Kawai, Yuji Motohashi

Publication number: 20100126973Abstract: A method of forming a plurality of shaped holes on a workpiece. The method may include rotating the workpiece about multiple axes relative to a laser beam, and positioning the laser at a first predetermined angle relative to the workpiece. The laser beam is pulsed to form a first plurality of trepan cuts defining a row of metering holes. The laser beam, after adjusting to a next predetermined angle and adjacent a previous row of trepan cuts, is pulsed to create a plurality of rows of trepan cuts wherein each cut in the previous row of trepan cuts is connected to a cut in said subsequent row of trepan cuts. The plurality of rows of trepan cuts are formed in a side-to-side sweeping formation and define a portion of each of the shaped holes. Next, the laser is pulsed in alignment with the metering hole to remove debris from therein.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 26, 2008Publication date: May 27, 2010Applicant: HONEYWELL INTERNATIONAL INC.Inventor: Lowell Frye
