Abstract: Phase-controlled well flow control. A well system includes a flow control device which regulates flow of a fluid in the well system, the flow control device being responsive to both pressure and temperature in the well system to regulate flow of the fluid. A flow control device includes a flow regulator for regulating flow of a fluid through the flow control device, and an actuator which is operative to actuate the flow regulator in response to a predetermined relationship between a phase of the fluid and both pressure and temperature exposed to the actuator. A method of controlling a phase change of a fluid in a well system includes the steps of: flowing the fluid through a flow control device in the well system; and adjusting the flow control device in response to both pressure and temperature in the well system.

Abstract: A containment and protection system for wells in the oil and gas industry may solve the problem of crude oil, salt water and chemicals from absorbing into the ground and contaminating the ground, water and animals. The system may provide safety for landowners, workers and livestock. The system may attach around a wellhead and flowline. The system may be dug into the ground so that it is below the surface casing and then sealed and secured thereto. A lid of the system may close overtop of the well to make it secure and leak proof. The lid may also be insulated to hold in warmth, thereby reducing the need to insulate the wellhead. The system may provide safeguards that may shut down the pump driver or close valves to stop flow from the well and flowline under certain conditions.

Abstract: A gripper for use in a downhole tool is provided. The gripper can include an actuator, an engagement assembly, and an expandable assembly. The engagement assembly can comprise a leaf-spring like elongate continuous beam. The expandable assembly can comprise a linkage including a plurality of links. The linkage can be coupled to the actuator such that the actuator expands the expandable assembly which in turn expands the engagement assembly. One or more keyed connections can inhibit rotational misalignment of the expandable assembly from the engagement assembly. In operation, during one stage of expansion radial forces are transmitted to the engagement assembly through both interaction of a rolling mechanism on the engagement assembly with the expandable assembly and pressure of the linkage assembly directly on an inner surface of the engagement assembly. The one or more keyed connections can preferably facilitate full retraction of the expandable and engagement assemblies.

Abstract: Separating gas from liquid down hole in a well by a downhole gas separator, gas is separated and passed to the well annulus and liquid is passed to a submersible pump at a calibrated flow rate at which liquid is vacated from a separation chamber, the length of the separation chamber providing sufficient space for gas separation as the liquid is pumped from the separator. The gas separator, limiting the amount of fluid passed to the separation chamber at less than the pumping rate of the submersible pump, creates a fluid vortex causing the separated liquid to move to the periphery and separated gas to pass near the axial center of the separation chamber. The separated gas passes to the well annulus and the liquid passes to the inlet of the submersible pump.

Abstract: Expandable apparatus for use in subterranean boreholes include a tubular body having at least one opening and at least one member positioned within the at least one opening. The member is configured to move between a retracted position and an extended position. A sleeve member including a constricted portion may be disposed in the tubular body and may selectively retain the at least one member in the retracted position. In some embodiments, the sleeve member may be biased in an initial position. Methods of moving a member of an expandable apparatus include repeating retracting and expanding of the member. Methods of triggering an expandable apparatus include forming a constriction in a fluid flow path extending through a sleeve member to move the sleeve member in a downhole direction responsive to fluid flow.

Abstract: A soil-conditioning disc and variable disc assembly system is presented wherein each disc has a series of radially extending geometrically shaped protrusions with intermittent cutting edges and consolidation surfaces, all circumscribing a central hub portion. The disc can be used individually or in multiplicity in a variety of configurations as appropriate for the soil conditions and soil-conditioning task at hand. When the soil-conditioning disc is rolled across the soil surface, a series of consolidated perforations and/or geometric-shaped hollows and restricting channels (depending on the particular disc configuration utilized) are created in the soil. This soil-conditioning disc and assembly simultaneously cuts and incorporates organic material into the soil to increase soil oxygenation for improved soil health, to create depressional water storage, to enhance soil permeability, to reduce evaporation, and to improve surface water distribution by reducing runoff.

Abstract: A conservation tillage implement having three or more rows of individual coulter wheel assemblies laterally spaced apart and removably mounted on a cultivator frame, a coulter wheel assembly in a given row being staggered with respect to the coulter wheel assemblies in a longitudinally adjacent row. The coulter wheel assemblies may be laterally adjustable and may be mounted to the cultivator frame using a mounting means that permits rotation about a vertical axis. The coulter wheel assemblies may have a coil spring with a horizontal spring axis to permit upward deflection in response to impact with an obstacle. Leveling attachments may optionally be mounted to the cultivator frame, along with additional field working tools. The implement is used in the management of crop residue as part of a minimum tillage strategy. The implement is particularly resistant to plugging and can be operated at high speeds without undue damage upon impact with obstacles.

Abstract: A clutch arrangement for use in a power tool having a multi-speed transmission assembly. The clutch arrangement includes a clutch member and a follower member. The clutch member is coupled to a member of the transmission assembly that is proximate the torsional input of the transmission assembly and which must be in a non-rotating position to permit the transmission assembly to perform a torque multiplication operation. The follower member is biased into engagement with the clutch member to inhibit relative rotation therebetween. As the clutch member and the transmission member are coupled to one another, the transmission assembly is able to perform a torque multiplication operation. When, however, the torsion that is exerted onto the clutch member is sufficient to overcome the frictional engagement between the follower and clutch members, the clutch member, and the transmission member, rotate, thereby inhibiting the capability of the transmission to continue to perform the torque multiplication operation.

Abstract: It is an object of the invention to reduce transmission of an external force caused by run-out of a tool bit to a tool body in a power tool is provided. A representative power tool which performs a predetermined operation by linear motion of a tool bit in its axial direction has a tool body, a tool holder that holds the tool bit in its front end region and extends in the axial direction of the tool bit, and an elastic element. A rear region of the tool holder opposite from the front end region extends into the tool body, and in the extending region, the tool holder is coupled to the tool body such that the tool holder can rotate about a pivot on a z-axis defined by an axis of the tool bit, in directions of y- and x-axes which intersect with the z-axis. The elastic element applies a biasing force to the tool holder in such a manner as to hold the tool holder in a predetermined position or an initial position with respect to the tool body.
