Publication number: 20110085242Abstract: An optical assembly uses a plastic prism with one flat surface and a collimating lens optic to provide the capability of imaging a color micro-display to the eye. The collimating optic and flat prism surface can allow for aberration-free diopter adjustment and an image with very low-magnitude, nearly-symmetric distortion. The collimating optic can also provide environmental protection of the prism involving an optical plastic device. The input illumination from the micro-display enters the prism, is reflected two times within the prism, exits the prism, and passes through the collimating optic before being viewed by the eye. Such an optical assembly can provide a field of view with eye-relief and exit pupil when viewing a full-color micro-display.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 14, 2009Publication date: April 14, 2011Applicant: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AS REPRESENTED BY THE SECRETARY OF ARMYInventors: Kyle R. Publication number: 20110085267Abstract: A recording media design having discrete track recording structure where the trenches between tracks are filled with a soft magnetic material is provided. The soft magnetic material provides a low magnetic impedance path to the soft underlayer such that fringe fields from the write head are conducted to the soft underlayer without having a negative effect such as adjacent track erasure. A method of manufacturing the media includes a nano-imprint step and ion milling out the data layer to create the trenches. A B2O3 material allows the data layer to be ion milled out without redeposition bridging the B2O3 layer thus preventing lift off of the mask. Publication number: 20110085281Abstract: Disclosed is a dielectric ceramic having crystal grains mainly composed of barium titanate and an intergranular phase formed among the crystal grains. The dielectric ceramic contains certain amounts of manganese and at least one rare earth element (RE) selected from magnesium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, holmium and erbium, in terms of oxides, per 1 mole of barium constituting the barium titanate. The dielectric ceramic also contains a certain amount of yttrium in terms of oxides, per 100 parts by mass of the barium titanate. The crystal grains have an average grain size of 0.05-0.2 ?m. By using the dielectric ceramic as a dielectric layer, there can be obtained a capacitor having high capacity and stable capacitance temperature characteristics.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 27, 2009Publication date: April 14, 2011Applicant: Kyocera CorporationInventor: Katsuyoshi Yamaguchi

Publication number: 20110085284Abstract: An elastomeric piezoelectric ultracapacitor embodiment is also disclosed. A dielectric elastomer is a polymer that may be configured to operate in a “generator mode.” In generator mode the dielectric elastomer operates like a variable capacitor, and amplifies the energy of charge placed on a pair of compliant electrodes, formed on opposite sides of the elastomer, when the elastomer is in a compressed state. An elastomeric piezoelectric ultracapacitor employs generator mode techniques to further increase the power generation capabilities of an piezoelectric ultracapacitor.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 31, 2010Publication date: April 14, 2011Inventor: Joseph Anthony Micallef

Publication number: 20110085285Abstract: A capacitor assembly that includes an electrolytic capacitor that contains an anode body, dielectric overlying the anode, and a solid electrolyte overlying the dielectric is provided. An anode lead is also electrically connected to the anode body and extends in a longitudinal direction therefrom. The anode lead is connected to an “upstanding” portion of a leadframe. Among other things, this helps to limit substantial horizontal movement of the lead and thereby improve the mechanical robustness of the part. The capacitor and leadframe are enclosed and hermetically sealed within a ceramic housing in the presence of an inert gas. It is believed that the ceramic housing is capable of limiting the amount of oxygen and moisture supplied to the conductive polymer of the capacitor. In this manner, the solid electrolyte (e.g., conductive polymer) is less likely to undergo a reaction in high temperature environments, thus increasing the thermal stability of the capacitor assembly.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 8, 2009Publication date: April 14, 2011Applicant: AVX CORPORATIONInventors: Stanislav Zednicek, Ladislav Vilc, Martin Biler
