Abstract: Recovery time upon the failure of a link or switching system in an asynchronous data network can be minimized if downstream data switches provide upstream messages indicating to upstream switching system that the downstream traffic arrived in tact and was properly handled. Upon this loss or failure of the upstream status message to an upstream switching system, an upstream switching system can reroute data traffic around a failed link or failed switch with a minimal amount of lost data. The upstream status message is conveyed from a downstream switching system to an upstream switching system via a reverse notification tree data pathway.

Abstract: As networks have spread, various services such as video streaming and IP telephone have been achieved. Along with that, complexity of networks has advanced, but there have not been a way to manage all packets distributed on networks, and thus quality guarantee and reliability securement have been problematic. Also, an increase in cost such as recovery solution upon a failure has been a big problem. Accordingly, an IP probe which detects packets distributed on communication paths in real time and visualizing a status of the network is achieved by a heterogeneous multi-core processor including a dynamic reconfigurable processor. By changing configuration function in a packet analysis depending on characteristics of the packets, low power and high performance are achieved with flexibly handling various standards and services. Also, by allocating a plurality of nodes, a status of the whole network is visualized.

Abstract: Autodetermination circuitry examines packets transmitted internally to an egress port of a switching device in order to learn the associated flow. The autodetermination circuitry maintains a flow memory recording the highest traffic volume flows and unlearns the flows exhibiting lower traffic volumes to make room for other higher traffic volume flows. Accordingly, as some flows decrease in traffic volume and other flows increase in traffic volume, the flows decreasing below a threshold are dropped from a flow memory, and other flows increasing in volume above the threshold are added to the flow memory. In this manner, only the most likely offending flows are maintained in the flow memory. Accordingly, when congestion is detected, the switching device can identify one or more source devices contributing the most to the congestion and take steps to alleviate the congestion by decreasing the traffic volume originating from one or more of those sources.

Abstract: A power reduction mechanism in a mobile communications device detects the use of a wrong WEP encryption key in the establishment of a WLAN connection between the mobile device and an access point for both static and dynamic IP WLAN profiles. The power reduction mechanism detects an incorrect WEP key; authentication failure; failure to acquire an IP address for dynamic IP WLAN profiles; decryption errors; and broadcast/multicast frames from the handset not being redirected back to the BSS by the AP. Upon such detection, the mobile device takes one or more power conserving actions, e.g., adding the AP/profile to a ban list; attempting WLAN association for a banned AP/profile at longer intervals than for a non-banned AP/profile; skipping an AP/profile on the ban list for a time duration defined by a timer to conserve power; and flagging the banned AP/profile with a special mark to indicate it is banned.

Abstract: Sets of communications resources, e.g., sets of peer discovery resources, in a peer to peer communications system may be use concurrently by multiple transmitting devices. The communications system supports a plurality of different pilot sequences. Multiple transmitting devices may transmit their signals on the same set of communications resources, but with different pilot sequences. This approach allows receiving devices to distinguish between multiple signal sources, e.g., wireless terminals, using a shared communications resource. A wireless communications device monitors a plurality of different sets of communications resources and selects, e.g., based on received energy levels, a set of communications resources from said plurality of different sets of communications resources to use for communication.

Abstract: A repeater system for wireless communication system is disclosed forthwith. The repeater system uses an analog frequency converter and digital down and up converter in order to allow the processing of the repeated signal in a relatively low frequency (in the 30 MHz range) and in a digital form (rather than in analog form). The repeater system also provides a programmable multi-band filter which can identify and suppress out of band noises to increase the signal-to-noise ratio of the system.

Abstract: A communication network having at least one access point supports wireless communication among a plurality of wireless roaming devices via a first and a second wireless channel. The access point comprises a first and a second transceiver. The first and second transceivers operate on the first and second wireless channels, respectively. Each of the plurality of wireless roaming devices are capable of communicating on the first and second wireless channel. In one embodiment, the first wireless channel is used to exchange data, while the second channel is used to manage such exchanges as well as access to the first channel. In an alternate embodiment, both channels are used to support communication flow, however the first channel supports a protocol that is more deterministic than that of the second channel. Allocation of ones of the plurality of wireless roaming devices from one channel to the next may occur per direction from the access point.

Abstract: In a flat Radio Access Network (RAN) architecture, each base station (16) shares Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Services (MBMS) control plane information with its neighboring base stations (16), by sharing with neighboring base stations (16) the same control plane information that the base station (16) transmits via its air interface (24). For example, in a Wideband CDMA embodiment, where each base station (16) in a flat WCDMA RAN (12) is referred to as a NodeB÷, one NodeB÷ shares MBMS control plane information with one or more neighboring NodeB+s. Such sharing allows a given base station (16-1) not only to broadcast MBMS configuration information for its own cells (18-1), but also to broadcast such information for one or more neighboring cells (18-2, 18-3) that operate under control of one or more neighboring base stations (16-2, 16-3).

Abstract: The present solution relates to a method in a first core network gateway (220) for providing multimedia broadcast multicast service “MBMS” in a wireless communication network (100). The network (100) comprises a broadcast multicast service center “BM-SC” (245) node which is arranged to be connected to the first core network gateway (220). The network (100) further comprises a second core network gateway (215) arranged to be connected to the first core network gateway (220). Firstly, the first core network gateway (220) receives a MBMS session request from the BM-SC node (245). Then, the first gateway (220) sends a MBMS session response to the BM-SC node (245). The MBMS session request message is then forwarded to the second core network gateway (215). Finally, the first gateway (220) receives a MBMS session response message from the second core network gateway (215). The MBMS session request and response comprises an information field adapted to MBMS.
