Abstract: The present invention relates to a Stirling engine in which power is generated using a variation in pressure generated by continuously performing periodical heating and cooling operations when a heat transfer medium is stored in a sealed inner space. The Stirling engine generates power for rotating an output shaft (12) through the expansion and contraction of the heat transfer medium sealed and received in a space partitioned by a baffle (40) within an inner space (21) of a housing (20). Thus, when compared to the prior art, the Stirling engine of the present invention may be more easily manufactured. Also, the heat transfer medium for generating power may be easily managed, maintained, and repaired. In addition, since the heat circulation structure is simple, the Stirling engine of the present invention can achieve relatively higher thermal efficiency than those of the prior art.

Abstract: The invention provides a floating ice sheet based renewable thermal energy harvesting system, that can harvest energy from naturally occurring temperature differential between liquid water below a floating ice sheet that is substantially at the freezing temperature of water (0 degrees C. or slightly lower for salt water), and colder air above the floating ice sheet. For example, this is a naturally occurring phenomenon in Artic and Antarctic region sea ice or ice shelf regions, where the air temperature above the floating ice may range from ?5 degrees C. down to winter extreme cold temperatures of around ?50 degrees C. In addition to the inventive application of thermodynamic cycle engines to harvest renewable energy from this naturally occurring temperature differential, variant embodiments also combine wind energy and/or solar energy subsystems to provide synergistic further benefits and greater quantities of renewable energy harvestable from devices of this class.

Abstract: A centrifugal compressor includes a housing providing in inlet, an impeller, a diffuser and a volute or collector. An electric motor is provided in the housing and is configured to drive at least one impeller via a shaft about an axis. The impeller includes an outlet end aligned with a diffuser and arranged at the throat. A variable fluid injector device is arranged downstream from the outlet end of the impeller in one example. The variable fluid injector device is configured to introduce high pressure fluid downstream from the impeller in response to a compressor regulation command. The injected fluid energizes the low momentum boundary layer, which provides compressor stability. A compressor controller is in communication with the variable fluid injection device to obtain a desired compressor operating condition.

Abstract: The disclosure provides an apparatus and method for gas separation through the supersonic expansion and subsequent deceleration of a gaseous stream. The gaseous constituent changes phase from the gaseous state by desublimation or condensation during the acceleration producing a collectible constituent, and an oblique shock diffuser decelerates the gaseous stream to a subsonic velocity while maintain the collectible constituent in the non-gaseous state. Following deceleration, the carrier gas and the collectible constituent at the subsonic velocity are separated by a separation means, such as a centrifugal, electrostatic, or impingement separator. In an embodiment, the gaseous stream issues from a combustion process and is comprised of N2 and CO2.
