Abstract: An apparatus and a method for sound recording are provided. The apparatus stores an equalizer and includes a housing, a microphone, and a processor. The microphone includes a plurality of sensors and receives a sound signal through an acoustical resonator in the housing. The microphone generates a plurality of electronic signals in response to the sound signal. The equalizer generates a plurality of equalized signals according to the electronic signals. The processor generates an output signal according to the equalized signals. The equalizer compensates the gain margin and the phase margin caused by the sound signal passing through the acoustical resonator in order to prevent the output signal from being affected by resonance of the sound signal in the acoustical resonator.

Abstract: A magnet assembly for a audio speaker provides a gap through which a voice coil assembly passes. A magnetic member, a yoke, and a pole piece form a magnetic circuit that focuses magnetic energy in the gap. A spider movably supports the voice coil assembly. The spider is coupled to one of the magnetic member or the yoke by forming the one of the magnetic member or the yoke in two parts and joining the two parts with a portion of the spider between the two parts. The spider may be formed from a thin film thermoplastic, such as polyetheretherketone (PEEK), and may be less than 10 microns thick. The portion of the spider that is between the two parts may be shaped such that a portion of the two parts are in direct contact with one another.

Abstract: Complimentary crossovers that reduce phase distortion in loudspeaker systems, typically pairs, are described. In the fundamental embodiment, each loudspeaker possesses two drivers, a woofer and a tweeter. The “effective third-order” crossover on the right-hand loudspeaker remains “symmetric,” but the “effective third-order” crossover on the left-hand loudspeaker is rendered “asymmetric,” as described. Other embodiments apply this principle to higher crossover orders and greater numbers of drivers. This technology can be combined with other circuits like a Zobel, typically used for impedance correction. Some configurations of “phase-unified” loudspeakers require that a Zobel is applied to all drivers except the tweeter. Accordingly a rule combining effective crossover order and handedness is established.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for contrast enhancement and feature identification. In one implementation, an image processing apparatus utilizes latency coding and a spiking neuron network to encode image brightness into spike latency. The spike latency is compared to a saliency window in order to detect early responding neurons. Salient features of the image are associated with the early responding neurons. An inhibitory neuron receives salient feature indication and provides inhibitory signal to the other neurons within an area of influence of the inhibitory neuron. The inhibition signal reduces probability of responses by the other neurons to stimulus that is proximate to the feature thereby increasing contrast within the encoded data. The contrast enhancement may facilitate feature identification within the image. Feature detection may be used for example for image compression, background removal and content distribution.

Abstract: A series of scans is generated for a subsurface and a derivative image is created using the series of subsurface images. One or more tests are performed on the derivative image, and a subsurface object is detected based on the one or more tests. A sensor is configured to generate a series of scans for a subsurface and a processor is coupled to the sensor. The processor is configured to execute stored program instructions that cause the processor to generate a series of images of the subsurface using the series of scans, create a derivative image using the series of subsurface images, perform one or more tests on the derivative image, and detect a subsurface object based on the one or more tests.

Abstract: A digital image of a first garment having one or more first garment portions is received. A user has identified the first garment portions as matching one or more corresponding second garment portions of a second garment. The probability of accidental match of the first garment within the digital image in relation to the second garment is determined, by using a statistical model based on one or more parameters and based on analyses of the first garment portions. The probability of accidental match is output.

Abstract: A Metric Information Network (MIN) with a plurality of Ground Control Points (GCPs) that are selected in an automated fashion. The GCP selection includes clustering algorithms as compared to prior art pair-wise matching algorithms. Further, the image processing that takes place in identifying interest points, clustering, and selecting tie points to be GCPs is all performed before the MIN is updated. By arranging for the processing to happen in this manner, the processing that is embarrassingly parallel (identifying interest points, clustering, and selecting tie points) can be performed in a distributed fashion across many computers and then the MIN can be updated.

Abstract: A user can be identified and/or authenticated to an electronic device by analyzing aspects of a motion or gesture made by that user. At least one imaging element of the device can capture image information including the motion or gesture, and can determine time-dependent information about that motion or gesture in two or three dimensions of space. The time-dependent information can be used to identify varying speeds, motions, and other such aspects that are indicative of a particular user. The way in which a gesture or motion is made, in addition to the motion or gesture itself, can be used to authenticate an individual user. While other persons can learn the basic gesture or motion, the way in which each person makes that gesture or motion will generally be at least slightly different, which can be used to prevent unauthorized access to sensitive information, protected functionality, or other such content.

Abstract: An apparatus for recognizing faces with different illuminations may include a processor and memory storing executable computer program code causing the apparatus to at least perform operations including detecting and extracting face data of a first candidate face of a first image and a second candidate face of a second image. The first image is associated with a first light intensity and the second image associated with a second light intensity different from the first light intensity. The computer program code may further cause the apparatus to analyze face data to determine whether the first candidate face corresponds to an area in the first image that is substantially the same as an area of the second candidate face and evaluate data of the first and second areas to determine whether the first and second candidate faces are valid or invalid faces. Corresponding methods and computer program products are also provided.
