Abstract: In a MIMO system using a cross-polarized antenna structure, even if no ideal XPD can be obtained, the interference between different polarized waves can be reduced to allow an effective precoding to be executed. When a MIMO communication is performed between a transmitter and a receiver each using a cross-polarized antenna structure, a channel estimating and precoding selection section of the receiver performs a channel estimation of MIMO channels from the transmitter to the receiver, decides a precoding matrix of a projection matrix for mutually orthogonalizing or substantially orthogonalizing the channel response matrixes for respective different polarized waves, and feeds the determined precoding matrix back to the transmitter. In the transmitter, a precoding processing section applies the precoding matrix to the spatial stream corresponding to one of the polarized waves to perform a precoding, thereby allowing the transmitter to transmit the polarized waves with the orthogonality therebetween maintained.

Abstract: A fusion device produces fusion of neutral atoms and ions in an “aneutronic fusion” manner without neutrons as products utilizes strong ion-neutral coupling at high neutral densities. Ions and neutrals rotate together in a cylindrical chamber due to frequent collisions. High magnetic forces make the attainment of high rotation energy possible; the magnetic field in a medium can be set at very high values because of the absence of magnetic charges. The repeated acceleration by strong magnetic forces in the azimuthal direction makes possible very high ion velocity. Fusion takes place mainly between neutral particles. This approach can be applied to fusion with neutrons as well. Conventional fusion schemes and neutron sources can be realized using the principles described above in the generation of neutrals of high energies and densities.

Abstract: The present invention relates to passive cooling systems and methods for cooling a spent fuel pool in a nuclear power plant in the absence of onsite and offsite power, e.g., in a station blackout event. The systems include a gap formed along the periphery of the spent fuel pool, a heat sink, one or more thermal conductive members, a water supply system for delivering water to at least partially fill the gap and conduct heat generated from the spent fuel pool through the gap to at least one thermal conductive member for transporting heat to the heat sink, and a thermal switch mechanism for activating and deactivating the water supply system. In particular, the passive spent fuel pool cooling systems and methods of the invention are useful when the active spent fuel pool cooling system is unavailable or inoperable.

The balancer is implemented, for balancing the sensor elements, to post-process for each sensor element a sensor signal of the respective sensor signal n by means of balancing information determined in balancing and stored, so that a variation of the intensity I of incoming radiation in the respective field of view leads to a change of the respective post-processed sensor signal according to a desired mapping function Fn(anI), the mapping functions Fn( ) of all factory-balanced sensor elements being identical, and an being a sensor-individual factor. The shading corrector is implemented on the basis of a recording generated by means of the camera arrangement with the sensor elements, to change the sensor element-individual factors an so that intensity differences of the recording are balanced across the common object plane.

The volume data reconstruction unit reconstructs first volume data of a chest region of an object based on an output from the X-ray detector. The lung field region specifying unit specifies a lung field region of the object in the first volume data. The discrimination unit generates second volume data in which a low CT value region is discriminated from a region other than the low CT value region in the lung field region. The image generation unit generates an image representing a two-dimensional distribution concerning an existing ratio of the low CT value region to the lung field region based on the second volume data.

It thereby takes into account a geometry of the tomographic imaging. The method also comprises applying the algebraic reconstruction algorithm to a plurality of virtual projection data sets—corresponding with a basis vector of a basis for the projection space—to produce a plurality of reconstructed spatial representations and determining the filter component using the plurality of reconstructed spatial representations, and applying the filter. Applying the analytical reconstruction technique with the determined filter component may inherit beneficial properties from the algebraic reconstruction algorithm, e.g. versatility and robustness to noise, without incurring the associated computational cost.
