Abstract: The invention relates to a method for estimating frequency bias negatively affecting a digital signal representative of a symbol frame, wherein said method comprises the steps of: generating the digital signal at a sampling period Te that is shorter than a predefined period of each of the symbols of the frame; calculating values for a plurality of pairs of samples of the digital signal, each value being representative of a phase difference between the samples of a pair; estimating the frequency bias negatively affecting the digital signal on the basis of the values calculated for Np pairs of samples selected such that a plurality of said Np pairs belong strictly to a single symbol in the frame. The present invention also relates to a module for implementing the estimation method, as well as to a telecommunication method and system.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a wireless communication system, and more specifically, to a method and a device for reporting channel state information. According to one embodiment of the present invention, a method for allowing a terminal to report channel state information (CSI) in a wireless communication system comprises the steps of: reporting a rank indicator (RI); dropping a report of a precoding matrix indicator (PMI) after the RI has been reported; and reporting a channel quality indicator (CQI) after the PMI report has been dropped. Here, a rank value corresponding to the RI may be a changed rank value compared to a rank value corresponding to the most recently reported RI before the RI report. Furthermore, the CQI can be determined on the basis of another precoding matrix, rather than a precoding matrix corresponding to the dropped PMI.

Abstract: Aspects of virtual field buffer based decoding are described. In one embodiment, a current picture field is read from a coded picture buffer comprising coded pictures of video, for example. The current picture may be associated with a top or bottom field polarity. According to decoding and picture output orders, the current picture field is assigned to an available field entry of a virtual field buffer, and an available frame index of a virtual frame map is assigned to the current picture field. The assignment of the available frame index to the current picture field is indicated to a decoder that decodes the current picture field with reference to the assigned frame index. According to aspects of the embodiments described herein, rather than determining complimentary picture fields after decoding, the assignment of complimentary picture fields to virtual frame indexes before decoding provides certain efficiencies.

Abstract: Access encoding/decoding of image data has at least two preferred access modes, raster access and macroblock access. Arriving rasters containing pixels from an image sensor are converted to encoded macroblocks to support later random macroblock and raster access. Encoded macroblocks can be randomly accessed (read from or written to memory) by block-based video compression algorithms, such as H.264. Encoded macroblocks can also be decoded raster by raster for raster-oriented display devices. Access encoding/decoding may be implemented in a microprocessor, graphics processor, digital signal processor, FPGA, ASIC, or SoC. Access encoding/decoding of image data or reference frames can reduce memory and storage bottlenecks, processor access time, and processor and memory power consumption. A user interface can allow users to control the tradeoff between decoded video quality and battery life for a mobile device. This abstract does not limit the scope of the invention as described in the claims.

Abstract: In video quality control and estimation, the joint evaluation of compression artifacts and channel artifacts is a problem. The invention considers the joint perception of both a compression artifact level Dm(V) and a channel artifact level Dh(V) in a method for calculating overall distortion in a video being affected by compression artifacts and channel artifacts. The method comprises a step of adding a compression artifact level Dm(V) and a summand S that is derived from log (Dh(V)) multiplied with a factor that decreases with increasing compression artifact level Dm, such as D(V)=Dm(V)+c·(K?Dm(V))·log(Dh(V)). The result obtained is a measure for the overall distortion.

Abstract: A modulator generates modulation signals from input signals. A combiner arranges subcarrier modulation signals based on the modulation signals in order thereby to generate a compound matrix. The shifter shifts elements of each row of the compound matrix to generate shift matrix. An IFFT calculator subjects the shift matrix to inverse fast Fourier transformation to generate inverse transformation matrix. A maximum detector detects a column with a highest peak-to-average power ratio among columns of the inverse transformation matrix. A minimum detector detects an inverse transformation matrix including a column with a lowest peak-to-average power ratio among columns of inverse transformation matrices detected by the maximum detector. A transmitter generates a transmission signal based on baseband signals generated from each column of the inverse transformation matrix detected by the minimum detector, and transmits the transmission signal.
